Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
Jauronimo replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Prime Watson is a much better QB than prime Jackson. I don't think prime Watson is coming back and I think Jackson's best years are behind him. -
Anyone have any bad dreams lately that they would like to share?

I can't think of a single reason why you shouldn't draw a nice warm bath and relax with a good book and the toaster.

Then there is the issue of for profit education which comprised the largest portion of defaulted student loans, if I recall correctly. If a school is running commercials starting at 2AM, it should probably be shut down and have no access to federal student loan programs. I feel bad for the high number of adults who tried to turn their lives around and ultimately paid exorbitant tuitions only to find that the job market isn't that interested in someone in their 40s with the skills of a 22 year old who majored in "exciting new fields like criminal justice, business, and high tech!". Predatory trade skills are another real problem although I'm not sure how common it is. https://www.npr.org/2022/03/01/1062679587/for-profit-colleges-student-loan-borrowers-fraud

Think about a product where you pretty much have to have it to succeed today. Or at the very least, a product where your teachers, parents, family, friends, guidance counselors, and pop culture spend 18 years telling you that you absolutely need this product. The providers of this product can charge whatever they want for this product and do not see any change in demand/enrollment. That is how you get an absurd cost of education, absurd student debt balances, and a general debt/default crisis. There is no incentive for higher education institutions to control costs. Due to non-recourse lending, school gets paid even if the student stops paying their loans. Due to the programming I described above and access to insurmountable debt, demand for education is completely inelastic: there is no change in demand based on change in price. If people will buy at any price, why wouldn't you see how far you could go? Why not build a college town, give every freshman an iPad, and put a pool in the freshman dorm? The logical solution to runaway costs of education is to control access to debt. Less access to debt, means lower enrollment, which means incentive to control costs. Maybe this wouldn't hit the ivys but the rest of the top 100 would feel it. Unfortunately, this results in some real issues. Namely, restricting access to the best universities to anyone who isn't very wealthy or getting a full ride. Common sense on giving 18 year olds access to insurmountable debt is also easily assailable as "anti-education" in the current political discourse. Anecdotes about one impoverished child paying their way through Yale and becoming unfathomably rich are incoming. The other solutions involve promoting skilled trades in K-12, a strong and affordable state university system, and educating children and parents on the realities of higher education. Unless you have a burning desire to be working at a top hedge fund, top 5 corporate law firm, or be the best neurosurgeon in the country, you don't need an ivy league education. You likely don't need a top 100 education. If you don't know what you want to do, a state school degree is just fine and doesn't close any doors for you. You can drive a truck in west texas or work an oil rig and make more money with a high school education than most white collar people will ever earn in their careers. College isn't for everyone and it doesn't need to be.

While I am happy for people who are free of the burden of crushing student loan debt, particularly those who were duped by predatory for profit institutions, this legislation does nothing to address the underlying issues. Its time to have a discussion about the cost of education, non-recourse lending, and the amount of debt an 18 year old should have access to.

Nonsense speculation from a talking head begging for attention

Ridiculous. -
I am certain that you could leave me just as confused with fewer words. Maybe not as annoyed, but every bit as confused.

This isn't a playoff team. They've gone complete implosion in 5 of their last 6, managing to at least salvage the Ducks game. I do not recall the Sabres being blown out of the building even when they were perennial lottery favorites. Absolutely no one in blue looked good in the first period. Can't really assess their performance since the game ceased to be competitive after the first period. The third was kinda fun but doesn't mean much.
-
I hope it sounds like a road game because the Sabres have a miserable home record. They thrive in the tepid indifference of a west coast, inter-conference, road trip atmosphere.

Motion to vote that Yolo changes his name to "YouDieEveryDayInOhio". All in favor?
-
Yolo got into it pretty badly with another poster in defense of the Oxford comma. I believe it ended with aggrieved parties agreeing to settle their punctuation differences with a spearing contest at the 50 yard line of Ohio Stadium. I'm guessing Yolo did not prevail.

Raises? More like "doesn't lower the price of gasoline some amount". I find it hard to believe that a pipeline that never operated was so meaningful to global commodity markets such that the market has been pricing in significant discounts over the past few years based on future completion of the XL pipeline. Producing in the Canadian tar sands is already a highly inefficient and expensive process. -
I liked Dotson a lot coming out. He made a handful of OBJ type catches in his PSU career that never got the attention they deserved. My one concern was whether his frame could handle NFL hits. A hamstring injury doesnt have much to do with lack of size but he did miss a lot of games his rookie year.

A REPORTER THINKS Packers are "done with Rodgers"
Jauronimo replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
This all makes a lot of sense to me. Based on recent interviews, I think Aaron is also sick of Aaron Rodgers. -

There's a lot of tough talk that scores cheap political points but little else. Not renewing a few leases of little importance and killing a pipeline before it ever moved a drop of oil isn't nearly as big of a deal as people make it out to be. The libs have been "killing" the fossil fuel industry since Obama and in that time the United States passed Saudi as the largest producer of oil and gas in the world. If that is what trying looks like, there is no reason for concern. -

Meanwhile Chevron and the super majors are enjoying another record year of profits. Bonus checks get cut early March. I know I am looking forward to it. -

I'm still trying to figure out how Biden single handedly caused global inflation at rates which dwarf what we are seeing domestically. -
What is better, no guns, or more guns?
Jauronimo replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Strangely enough, I believe gun violence in the 1920s due to the availability of the Thompson gun was the beginning of the gun control debate in this country. https://www.npr.org/2016/06/30/484215890/prohibition-era-gang-violence-spurred-congress-to-pass-first-gun-law -
That would be a shame since the Sabres' home ice advantage has been pivotal to their success this year...

Great measurables, injury concern, and not enough college production is exactly what NFL busts are made of. He was the clear third option at Ole Miss and his stats reflect that. How do you reconcile can't miss NFL star with 9th WR off the board?

Chilean seabass is a patagonian toothfish, post rebranding in the 80s. Apart from that change in labeling, much of the seafood we get is fraudulently mislabeled. https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/07/health/fish-mislabeling-investigation-oceana/index.html Not as bad as seafood but it happens with steak too. A flat iron, some meat glue and a bit of extra effort can easily pass for filet.
