  1. I hear ya on the last thought. If we stay healthy, we could have SJ, Fredex and/or Spiller. Maybe even Fitz. Only if we stay healthy.
  2. Great news. Thanks. In other news...Wow, my 200th post!!! Still on the Practice Squad though.
  3. Not trying to be argumentative, but NE,SD,NO,SF,GB(kinda),Atl(kinda) are the only teams I see as a team that employs the TE as much in the passing game as WRs.So if we include these TE's, SJ is still a #1 receiver in this league. Out of the list I gave, do you really believe he wouldn't be the #1 on most? MIGHT take SJ over their #1. Starting to think you have something personal against him(JK)
  4. I think there is some confusion here. I'll try to clear it up. From what I've read here, there is the camp that says he's not a #1 and the camp that says he is. The camp that says he's not seems to think the other camp says that he is "Elite" or the best on the Bills ever, or top ten. What we are saying is that he is a #1 receiver in this league, today. Not Elite, not the best, not top 10, not the bset Bill ever, but a #1 receiver in this league. Hope this helps.
  5. FYI...Fitz broke ribs on a blitz up the middle not around LT By an ex-bill I believe(Fletcher) that I hoped would be resigned at the time.
  6. You heard it right. First ever in Bills history from what I hear too. Yet he's not a #1 WR?!?!?! Right....Reed was our #1 and we were running the K gun for Christ sake. No one will argue that Mould was a #1 WR in the league. But SJ is not a true 1# ???
  7. Gotcha, I'll try to keep that in mind, but I mix stats with personal obvservation and opinion to put a human aspect to my post/reply.Glad you were fine with most of the post. That's what I like about these forums. We can vent, give opinions and I don't get mad when someone disagrees(as long as they don't get personal). After all of that, Fitz still takes those teams to the playoffs. How many of them would have taken the Bills to the playoffs last year? Maybe a healthy Manning, and I don't mean Eli.Brady, maybe. Brees, no. Eli, no. Again IMO. Sorry, couldn't help it. Because my "useless extraneous claim" received attention, I don't see it as useless or extraneous. I appreciate the thought though. Glad you found the rest insightful and very valid. I try.
  8. You are correct, I left the TE position out of the stats. The OP asked what is a #1 WR. As for cherry picked stats for 2011, I used the same criterea for both years. Top 20 pass catchers in a league of 32 teams shows me he's a #1 in this league. Elite, no, but a #1 WR in this league. Are you telling me you can't find, maybe 10-12 teams that would use SJ as a #1 right now? NE,Clev,Balt,Jags,Maybe Tenn,Raiders,Bears,Vikes(Harvin? Really?),Panthers,(S.Smith is old),Bucs,Skins,Niners,Seahawks,Rams? Thats 14 right there. Remove 2-3 and that's still double digit teams that would love SJ. I get the "pass catcher" thing, but a #1 WR, once again, HELL YES!!!
  9. 2010: TD's Bowe 15 Greg Jennings, Calvin Johnson 12 Brandon Lloyd, Nicks, and Mike Williams 11 Roddy White, Mike Wallce, J. Maclin and Stevie 10 Only 6 recievers caught more TD's Rec. White 115 Wayne 111 S. Moss 93 Fitz 90 Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Welker 86 Amendola 85 Colston 84 Stevie 82 #11 in the League Yds Getting tired of typing so, 1,073 #11 in the League 1st downs 61 tied for 4th in the league(only Wayne, B Lloyd and R. White had more) 1st down % Stevie 74.4% Only Brandon Lloyd(93.5%) and D Bowe(76.4%) have a higher % of the top 20 recievers(receptions) 2011 Td's 7 tied for 18th with the likes of Miles Austin, AJ Green,Nicks, to name a few. Rec 76 tied for 12th in the league Yd's 1,004 tied for 18th in the league 1st down 45 tied for 20th in the league 1st down % 59.2% Not so good here, but still close to 60% of passes for a 1st down. Over the last 2 seasons, I would argue that Stevie is a # 1. There are 32 teams x 5 receivers per team(160 recievers). Top 10 receiver?, Probably not, but definetly a # 1 on more than 1/2 the NFL teams. Don't forget how the injuries affected our offense last season and the lack of a true #2 meant teams paid more attention to Stevie. A #1 receiver? HELL YES!!!
  10. If these guys would have lost, oh I don't know, 2 of their top 3 recievers( we used Spiller at WR for a while), league leading rusher, possible PB center, best pass catching te on the team and the top 2 lt's and move your possible PB LG all around the line, it would have been a different story. Brady without his top 2 recievers, top RB and a beat up line(especially up the middle) can't handle pressure up the middle. Neither could Brees or Manning. Rodgers either for that matter. GB d wasn't great this past season either. The Amish Rifle was doing just fine before the injuries set in. Were we leading the league in a few offensive categories? Yes. Would he have been as good as Brees, Brady, or Manning? Probably not, but he would have guided each of those teams to the playoffs last season. IMO.
  11. I think a healthy Parrish will produce more than Jones. I think Parrish was developing some nice chemistry with Fitz before he got hurt. Hope to see it happen this season. Jones sucked all last year. Hands of stone.
  12. Cosmo must be a young'un. I'm only doing this because you made a point to say EVER .Starting in the 60's we picked up a FA named Jack Kemp. The 70's were a drug induced blur.In the 80's we pick up FA's from the USFL named Jim Kelly,Kent Hull and Ray Bentley. Yes we drafted Kelly in '83, but it wasn't 'till '86 when we signed him. Bryce Paup and Tasker were FA's. Lofton,Christie, Flutie, Sam Adams, Spikes, Fletcher, Lawyer Malloy(sp), Marcus Stroud, Kawika Mitchell,TO. Even though they didn't pan out like we thought we signed Dockery and Langston Walker to bolster our line(big signings at the time). I'm sure if I researched more I could find a few more examples. So we aren't the Redskins or Cowboys. What has that gotten them lately? Since 2000 the Skins have been to the playoffs in 05 and 07. Last Super Bowl, 91. Cowboys, 03, 06, 07 and 09 last Super Bowl 95. If we don't sign a Big name FA, it's because we chose NOT TO SPEND THE $. Don't kid yourself inot thinking they won't play if we PAY.
  13. I keep hearing Merriman's contract is guaranteed, which would mean if we cut him he still counts on the cap for the full amount. If true he stays.
  14. Almost as annoying as Using Bold Text to make a point!
  15. I'm an "older fan and I agree with JPS. It's not "Stevie" hate, it's "15 yd personal fouls for celebrating" hate. ...He plays hard he celebratesdraws 15 yd penalties even after Coach Gailey talked to him about this which means "idiot" to older bills fans..... There, that's better. Us older folks have a better understanding of what "we" mean.
  16. Not sure if there is sarcasm in this post or not.So I'm going with ,yes sarcasm. Do you ever insult people if they play for the professional sports team you follow? Me thinks you have.
  17. Let me add to this: or Santonio Holmes, or Wayne (maybe close due to wayne's age), or Cowboys Robinson or DeSean Jackson or Greg Lewis or Anquan.
  18. I think you mean Greg Jennings and you forgot Steve smith, Brandon Lloyd, and anquan Boldin That's better.
  19. I'm so with yo on this. I hope Bell is resigned, then you'll have Bell,Lev,Wood,Decastro,Pears with Hariston(Sp),Urbick and Rhino as depth. I would like to see Jasper in some preseason games at right guard. If we do this, we are strong up the middle on offense and defense.
  20. Sounds like a retirement plan to me.Uhm, did you mean baked by the sun or BAKED?!?!
  21. If we have the run that the Colts did with Manning, then yes. Don't forget there was alot of debate over Manning and Leaf, he picked the right one.The Bill rarely drafted in the top 5, but the Colts almost always drafted in the late 20's and still fielded a quality team for a long time undr Polian.Even if we base Polian on only 2 desicions in his career as a GM (Manning over Leaf, and Edjeran James Vs. Ricky Williams) he came off as a genius, like him or not.
  22. To me the point is Polian does a hell of a job with talent desicions and building a team. The Bills have had the luxury of having high draft picks for what, 10-11 years? We have done squat with them. Do you think we would be in this position if Polian was running things in Buff for those drafts? Polian doesn't seem to "end up" with guys like Losman or Edwards. For as bad as the Bills drafted, they still won 6 to 7 games starting Losman and Edwards at QB. Do you honestly think that they are superior to Curtis Painter? Maybe I am Dopey but, what ?!?! Painter was brought in as a Backup to a very durable HOF QB, he wasn't supposed to be a savior. Polian did the right thing here. As for the Bills, we drafted these guys thinking they would lead our team to the playoffs. Big difference. Painter wasn't expected to carry the Colts, unlike Losman and Edwards. If Polian were looking for a franchise QB, he wouldn't be looking at Painter. If he was still here, I don't think we would have wasted all of those high picks, or drafted guys like Losman or Edwards. He turned the Bills, Panthers and Colts into winners. Franchises that were pretty much in the dumps when he arrived, and "Bam" now they're winners. "till he leaves, that is.
