And with a high, mid, or low 1st round draft pick to Cleveland, you've got to play your best QB... which right now is clearly Orton.
-
You're "not attacking Williams character?" Everything you said questioned his character.

This.

Official Bills v. Lions second half game thread

Orton's veteran leadership made a difference to Sammy's confidence in practice and in the game. Definite upgrade from EJ. Marrone deserves credit to pull the trigger on the move. -
Kiko will be the Bills starting QB in 2015. Bank on it.

(Trade EJ for)... A front row seat at any Cleveland sports bar to watch the Browns' (courtesy of the Bills) 1st round draft pick in 2015.

Why I think Marrone should be fired...
mdk replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Okay, coaches don't make draft picks... let's agree Bills have had a consistently tragic front office. EJ over Geno and Mike Glennon? Maybe. However only EJ was a 1st round reach. With Marketing guru Russ Brandon 'leading the charge', Bills too often go for dramatic picks (against the better judgement of smart football men). Need a "big WR"? Force pick James Hardy. Need a franchise QB? 'Shock the world' and pick EJ (a projected 3rd rounder in the 1st round). Assume EJ (an unproven QB) is 'the man' to get him the ball, move up to get gifted WR Sammy Watkins in exchange for next year's #1 (i.e the future). I, for one, think RB should be fired (or kept FAR away from football operations). Brandon's the only common denominator in the past 14 year playoff-less years. -
But you can't bench the coach. Running the ball may be a strategy to attack a weaker rushing defence, but to do so incessantly becomes predictable and easy to stop (i.e stack the line)... The tapes don't lie. Teams were beginning to scheme to shut down Freddy, CJ, and the slant pass to Sammy. Why? Because WE HAVE A QB WHO CAN'T THROW ACCURATELY ON MID AND DEEP ROUTES. So take a clipboard Mr. Manuel. Use your practice time to improve your passing and decision making. You'll likely get another chance. And when that time comes, better make it count.

Agreed with every word.

The problem: I watched the game yesterday and was struck by the multiple missed opportunities by our 'young' QB. There were opportunities to make plays that resulted, instead, in inaccurate throws and/or missed receivers. All kudos to SD for playing a smart game. But I couldn't help to agree with the announcers that the chances for EJ and the Bills were there. I thought to myself many times, geez [insert a dozen QB names], would have made that play. The Bills could have won that game. The solution: Start him a couple more games and if/when he falters sit him in favor of Orton. Let him watch and learn. This would be the best thing for his development. While there's no guarantee he truly has the instincts to be a winning NFL QB, this approach at least keeps his psyche intact and allows him to grow for possible future usefulness. You can't teach 6' 5" and 4.6 speed. You can arguably teach throwing mechanics and field awareness (maybe). This approach presupposes the right QB coach. Am not sure if the Bills have the guy currently employed? Maybe Frank Reich has the skills to help EJ find the light? The future: Without a #1 draft pick there may not be a sure fire franchise available QB in next year's draft. In the 2014 season let's see what Orton has and hand EJ the clipboard. If Orton isn't the guy, pick up a quality FA next year who can play. In any event, DO NOT force a draft pick again based on desperation (e.g EJ at #16 when he was a projected 2nd/3rd rounder). The Bills FO needs to do a better job of scouting potential 'real deals'. Have a plan to draft the right guy, even if it takes a year of patience to find him.

What the "experts" are saying this week re the Bills/Fins
mdk replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hate to sound like comments prior to the Bears game, but a lot rides on EJ. If he performs/ manages the game well, with a similar QB rating of 90+, I like our chances. -
+1

Yes, it will be crazy. But weren't they saying " no way we lose" to the lowly Bills in Chicago prior to Bears' home opener? Miami's a good team who just knocked off the Pats. We'll have to earn this one on the field.

Multiple Reports : Pegula IS the new owner
mdk replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For me, one victory in 2014 makes this a little early to wish for. As long as you're speculating, it will be interesting to see whether Russ Brandon is part of the picture going forward? He's the only common denominator the past 14, playoff-less years... -

Amen. This. Word. -
Don't kid yourself. The Bills would have been a better football team with Marshawn here. And, more to the point, would have been a better football team if it had nearly as competent of a FO as the Seahawks. First of all, as football players with different but complimentary talents, Fred Jackson AND Marshawn Lynch could have been successful teammates on the same team... a Super Bowl caliber team. Saying Fred Jackson ran a young M.L "off the field" is absurd. Everyone knew the kid was talented. Are you saying you can't have two great RB's on the same team? (Look at the rosters of most championship teams... there's more than one back who can play). Yes, Marshawn had some off field issues. Note: he has had off field issues in Seattle, too. (More, below). You say, Seattle "gambled and won"? Stealing M.L for a '4th' round draft pick isn't a huge gamble. It was a "going out of business sale"! The Bills got fleeced. What Seattle's FO was able to do, that OBD could not, was manage a gifted, albeit occasionally bad ass player. This is after all football, and ML is no Aaron Hernandez. Lest you think Lynch instantly turned it around, without Seahawks' management patience and guidance consider the following: "The off-the-field problems didn’t end for Lynch following the move to Seattle. He was arrested again on suspicion of DUI in July 2012 after being observed driving erratically on a freeway in his hometown of Oakland, California. Lynch pled to guilty to a reckless driving charge in February 2014 to resolve the case and was placed on probation for two years, fined an undisclosed amount and required to attend classes on driving safety and alcohol consumption. Lynch caused off-the-field headlines last season when it was revealed he’d skipped mandatory media sessions, incurring a $50,000 fine from the NFL that was later revoked. In the offseason, Lynch threatened to skip mandatory minicamp and missed the first week of training camp while holding out for a new contract two years after signing a four-year, $30 million extension with Seattle. He ended his holdout on July 31 and reported back to the team after the Seahawks reworked his contract to guarantee some of his incentive money, resulting in an additional $1.5 million for Lynch this season". Marshawn has a Super Bowl ring and was voted recently, by his teammates, their MVP. He sets the tone for the Seahawks physicality and mind set. Seattle's FO has built a champion - has drafted and traded superbly, AND has managed its player assets. Bills fans have been let down and mismanaged by a largely Marketing driven organization. (The only common denominator, beyond an aging owner, the past 14 Playoff-less years has been Russ Brandon). I pray the Bills are led by a new owner who keeps the team in Buffalo, and brings in real football men who'll guide the franchise for years to come...

Wouldn't matter. Wilson processes the game twice as fast as EJ.

Watching the Seahawks- Packers game and watching "beast mode" in action, reminded me how our FO traded Marshawn away for a '4th' round draft pick and a conditional 5th or 6th. On NFL Network tonight, Michael Bennett says he and his Super Bowl champion Seahawks' teammates voted ML their "most indispensable player." Nice. This undervalued trade is one of dozens of curious moves that have kept the Bills stuck in neutral. With 14 years of playoff drought, what's your favorite OBD F.O gaffe? Okay, other than Aaron Maybin!!! -

Hmm... a WR that can't catch for a QB that can't throw.
