NFL officiating is broken. How do we fix it?
Livinginthepast replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
The missed call on Burrow on the literally the most important Play of the game last night was absolutely inexcusable. Any other player on the field it might be understandable but the guy with the ball and you miss that? That's about the 4th or 5th horribly missed call this year. The league needs to get their heads out their a** and really do something. -

I think it would be quite easy to fix a big portion of the problem by doing: 1. A coaches challenge on penalty calls or non calls. Only 1 allowed per half. Lose the challenge then lose a Time out. 2. Use the eye in the sky to automatically review big calls in the game and get them right. If a bogus holding call is made that never happened or a severe facemask (like Darnold's) is uncalled. Then buzz the referee and tell him to review and overturn the call if necessary. The game has become way to fast for these officials and most of the calls are guessing. I'm surprised that they even get it right as often as they do tbh. One other factor is that in the past there were less teams and less officiating crews. I am sure that has watered down the quality as well. -
The game in 2018 was one of the worst Bills games I have ever watched and I lived through the Hank Bullough years! Derek Anderson was abysmal!!

An unfortunate photo, he looks like he belongs on "Little People, Big World" in that pic!

Kansas City/Tampa Bay on Monday Night Football
Livinginthepast replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
The standard of officiating has been declining for more than 20 years in the NFL and even with replay and now "Eye in the Sky", they still cannot get it right. One of the calls vs TB for holding in the first half was obviously a guess. Like many holding calls, there was nothing obvious about it even in slow mo, let alone in real time from an official on the field. So why call that penalty? If the NFL doesn't want to introduce a coach's challenge for bad penalties, then they should overturn BS penalties with the eye in the sky or call missed ones when they are egregious like Darnold's facemask a couple of weeks ago. -

Actually I was thinking Chiefs but yes good point, TB was even worse with their key injuries, which makes their effort last night even more impressive and the KC performance even more underwhelming. -

Another tease game for KC. TB D was pretty good all night, Mahomes looked like he might have been injured on that TD pass. Chiefs really undermanned with injuries. Officials were bias of course but with all that Mayfield takes them down the field for the tie and then of course thats when the tired TB defense gives out. Just sickening because the Chiefs are 8-0 but somehow look beatable every week. -
So they have an mysterious "eye in the sky" official who sometimes corrects a bad call before it gets announced but they couldnt use this person on that non existent holding call? They couldnt have buzzed down to the field to tell them that there was no holding call?? Then what is the point of the eye in the sky?

TNF. Jets Texans. Who do we want to win tonight?
Livinginthepast replied to Billyhouseman's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jets pass defense was decent and their rushing schemes last night seemed to have really confused Stroud. You have to give these coaches some credit on the Jets defensive staff they got great pressure and if Stroud wasnt getting sacked or tackled hard, they were following through with hits after he released it.
