Does anyone feel like the roster can be better this year?
Wayne Cubed replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Next year the Bills currently have $60 million in cap space and that's before they cut ties with Kyle, another $7 million in savings. Even if they give Glenn and Gilmore hefty extensions they'll still have $40+ million. Plenty to sign Taylor or franchise him if he has a break out year. -
Ty Powell is back this year, right?
Wayne Cubed replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not necessarily. Just means he's an UFA, they just didn't tender him. I doubt he gets lots of calls and the Bills could have him back if they want, along with Rambo. -
What does this year's Free Agency do to Tyrod's value?
Wayne Cubed replied to hmsmystic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can't afford? The cap space for next year is near $60 million. The Bills can afford to sign Glenn and Gilmore long term and if Tyrod has a good year can definitely afford him. -
Brock Osweiler - 4 yrs/72 mill in Houston(signed)

7 starts. Unbelievable that a team would give him that kind of money. -
Are the Dolphins a concern for you?

@FieldYates Olivier Vernon is 25, a gifted pass rusher, a wall against the run and has never missed a game. Arguably the top free agent available now. -

So instead of keeping their own and developing him further, Oliver Vernon who's only 25, they pick up a 31 year old FA who just came off arguably his worst year as a pro. Makes sense. @AdamSchefter Dolphins have pulled the transition tag on LB/DE on Olivier Vernon, per source. Now a free agent. Will command big dollars. @AdamSchefter Dolphins pulled transition tag because they will get a compensatory draft pick when Olivier Vernon leaves; wouldn't have if he left tagged. -

Just look at Chris Ivory's deal... It puts him at Jamaal Charles type pay. -

@JasonLaCanfora Giants still have $$ to spend. Expected to make a concerted effort to land Olivier Vernon one way or another -

We just need to somehow trade for Austin Howard and that will neutralize Mario. -

Even with the signing of Kiko the Great One, they still don't have any LBs on that defense. Not that the Bills LB situation is any better but they have a rookie Defensive Coordinator and rookie Head Coach with some big egos on that defensive line. Their secondary isn't great either. -
Did you even read the post before that I was responding to? It was about players regressing in Ryans system. Is it accurate to say that all those players listed didn't regress under Ryan? I know where they were drafted. I know they are some of the best players, point was they didn't regress.

Yea. Wilkerson had 10.5 in 2013. EDIT: Calvin Pace, who would have been playing the DE in Rexs 4-3 under, also had 10 in 2013.

This is a ridiculous statement. Ed Reed. Terrell Suggs. Haloti Ngata. David Harris. Sheldon Richardson. Muhammed Wilkerson. Darelle Revis. Just to name a few. All played in Rex Ryans system, all played extremely well and didn't "kill their production"

Brant DT, Hogan WR, Mills OT have tendered contracts
Wayne Cubed replied to Fixxxer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it was a choice of only Powell or Rambo, I'd take Powell too. I think they could get them both back, if they can get Rambos cap hit for this year at about $800,000. It'll be a bump in pay for him but both Powell and Rambo would come in under that Tender level 1 price. I don't see Rambos market being massive, so it's possible. -

I think you can add Powell to that list as well. I definitely don't think he was worth the $1.7 million. I think they could get him back at vet minimum or around that $675,000 mark. -

Eh, I'm not sure Rambo is worth the $1.7 million cap hit and it might be easier to get him signed with a lower cap hit for this year. Offer him a 3 year deal but keep his cap hit lower for this year, I'm sure he isn't going to get a ton of offers. -

Tender 1 is $1.7 million, he was getting paid $585,000 in 2015 and vet minimum for him in 2016 would be $675,000. It certainly wouldn't be worth it to tender him at $1.7 million and so he'll become an UFA. The Bills will probably offer him the $675,000 and he'll be back. I don't see any other teams offering him any more than that. -
So now sacks are the only way we measure defenses? I don't really get how you can argue that they didn't disappoint. Whatever adjective you want to use to describe it, last year they didn't reach their goals. I'm not sure why you've changed the argument, to discuss sacks. I don't see the decrease in sack numbers as a valid reason for why Mario Williams decided to quit on the team. As far as Mario Williams play, he gave up. There are numerous plays and examples where he gave up. I'm not sure why you don't see that both things can exist and flat out refuse to believe that Mario Williams quit on his team. And for all Marcel Dareus's complaints, he didn't quit. He was asked to play the 0-tech and had a lot of two-gap responsibilities. Is that where his talents are best suited? No, he would have been better at the 5-tech but injuries forced him to play there. Did he quit on the team because he wasn't playing where he thought he should be? No, he didn't. As for the statement you used from the article, what article? And again, it is one alignment and actually confirms my point. Your whole argument has been that Mario was ALWAYS asked to do what you've stated. That he had to be a two-gap DE the entire season and that doesn't play to his strengths. Do you think Ryan is using base 3-4 in passing situations? Or when they are in Nickel? As I've said before Rex Ryans scheme is multiple. Is there a base 3-4 alignment where Mario was asked to have two-gap responsibilities? Yea, there is. Does that mean it was used on every down of every defense play? No. Here lets look at the Bengals game which you talked about, second series, 4-3 under defense: Mario Williams is lined up on the right hand side, hand in the dirt, at the 7-tech defensive end position. He's actually a bit wider than 7-tech, almost 9-tech. His job is absolutely to rush the passer on this play, which he does. He doesn't get home, but that's not my point because DE don't get a sack every play. My point is he was given plenty of these situations and just did not get home and would quit on plays.

Who said anything about being equal? What are you talking about? It's about both things being possible. You don't need to compare them and assign a weight to them. They both happened. That's it. Ok, to the bold, that's wrong. It depends on how the DL aligns. It isn't the same thing every time. Sometimes he lines up inside of the OT, sometimes he lineups over the OT and sometimes he lines up at the 7-tech or 9-tech. It was multiple, it wasn't the same thing. It wasn't two-gap every time and it if you look at Rex's defenses historically and last year when the defense is in the Nickel, the DE's have one-gap responsibly and are meant to rush the passer. The only exception is on disguised blitzes where they are trying to get a LB a free run. It's not absolute. It's not just Ryan did this and only this.
