  1. This seems to be a common attitude among fans, and it gets brought up time after time when someone says that Spiller is a bust, or a situational 10-touch a game gimmick back. Why do you think it will only be a matter of time before he gets first team reps? I've heard every excuse in the book for why the team won't let him touch the ball. A liability in blitz pickups, saving wear on his slight frame, etc. What is going to change in the next couple weeks in that regard? Who's fault is it that our single-digit first round pick can't sniff the field? If it is certain that he will start getting more reps, why now? The whole thing is insanely confusing and frustrating, especially in light of the very limited window that Spiller's type of shifty, explosive back has in the NFL.
  2. Fitzpatrick is a great guy to root for - a real every-man playing QB in the NFL. He tries real hard, cares a ton whether his team wins or loses. Real admirable stuff. It is just unfortunate that Spritzy's arm betrays his guts and mental toughness, especially in the clutch. He'll make a superb mentor for our #1 draft choice.
  3. Nope - gimmick rush-first quarterbacks don't help teams contend for a championship for a decade the way that real elite-level quarterbacks do.
  4. And they are unanimously considered the worst team in the league today. Such improvement!
  5. The Bills are a good football team now? I think you were trying to say that the Bills are the literal worst team in the NFL, but I can't figure out how a typo could have come out saying that they are good. But I guess if a fan base will be satisfied with Ryan Fitzpatrick as your 'franchise qb', you could be happy with 0-7 too I guess...
  6. Spritzy will be replaced soon enough by our #1 overall pick, so there isn't any reason to panic over his costly bumbles. He is the perfect guy to lead our almost-winless season - sure, he'll give some games away but at least they are entertaining. Aside from some homer fans who will annoint anyone under center for the Bills 'the next Jim Kelly', most all football people understand who Ryan Fitzpatrick is. A game, journeyman backup quarterback. We can still like him, much the way that everyone loved Frank Reich. He'll be back behind the clipboard soon enough, and should be a great influence on our next shot at an elite-level franchise quarterback.
  7. A busted draft choice is a busted draft choice. Whether it is because Spiller isn't as good as we thought or whether it is because our coaches don't know how to use him, the simple fact is no top 10 running back selection in modern memory has done less to contribute in their first half season in the league. It is starting to get suspicious how little we are using him. Many quarterbacks are out-carrying and out-rushing him. And as someone else said, it isn't like we have Walter Payton in front of him. But even if we did, picking another running back that high is a busted selection.
  8. Spritzy is simply way too inconsistent to be an elite-level NFL quarterback. He has an uncanny knack for making terrible blunders that cost the team hard fought games. Granted, he is better than anything else we got, but don't fool yourself into thinking that our feisty journeyman Spritzer isn't just keeping the seat warm until we draft our next potentially elite-level qb. Let's just hope it pans out and we can compete for a championship for a decade - and hopefully Spirtzy can hold the clipboard and earn a ring or two as well
  9. Real fans want their favorite team to contend for championships. Spritzy choking games, while embarassing to watch and frustrating in the short term, helps the team achieve its championship aspirations by facilitating the selection of a potentially elite-level franchise quarterback. Just gotta control your emotions and take it like a man in the meantime.
  10. The coaches don't trust him to carry the ball in key situations and they drafted him where teams draft superstar running backs. That tells you something. Not sure exactly what, but it can't be good.
  11. If 0-7 is progress, I can hardly wait to see the end result. At least we only have 9 more games left until we draft Spritzy's replacement.
  12. I think I've told the story here before, but one time I saw Chris Kelsay stuff two hostess cupcakes in his mouth. At one time. Serious question: is that a positive or a negative thing for one of your franchise leaders to be able to do? I think I lean toward positive.
  13. Three cheers for ol' Spritzy. Always finding a way to clutch up and flush it with a key mistake. Best case scenario this year is entertaining, watchable losses while the Spritzer keeps the seat warm for an NFL-caliber qb.
  14. In fairness, the Bills are by a landslide the worst team in the NFL. There aren't really a ton of bright spots.
  15. He probably needs to be more than a 10-touch per game situational back before he is in the conversation with any starting NFL back. Right now, he is getting quarterback type rushing numbers.
  16. Putting the Lions draft picks up against ours only serves to illustrate the point. The Lions, one of the historically bad NFL franchises blew our doors off in terms of draft success. They also got to draft a qb overall #1, which is why they are now regarded as a team on the rise.
  17. You can't carry someone if you are in the air. It violates some law of physics, I think. Otherwise, two people could carry each other at the same time and float into space! His elbow was close to being down in bounds, but close doesn't count. Time to move on.
  18. Guys - this is the literal worst team in the NFL. When we were merely a mediocre 6-10 or 7-9 team, we'd rarely send anyone to the Pro Bowl. So yeah, nobody. Except maybe Kyle Williams, since DT is a bit of a reputation position (like OL), and he's already made it. So people who feel sorry for us getting nobody might send him.
  19. You simply do not draft a linebacker with the #1 overall pick in the draft. You'd be the laughingstock of the NFL (well, continue to be, I guess).
  20. You can't win consistently in the NFL without getting elite-level play out of your quarterback. Teams with elite-level quarterbacks contend for championships over the course of a decade. The teams without elite-level quarterbacks fight for the scraps and hope for freak playoff runs or to be the once-in-decade Ravens team that wins without the most important position in organized sports. The catch is, it is pretty darn hard to get your hands on one of those guys. Further, the most reliable way to acquire one of those guys is to draft them at the top of round 1 in the NFL draft. Like teams with bad quarterbacks winning a championship, there are rare exceptions to this rule, but I would personally do whatever it took to acquire an elite-level quarterback with the highest possible chance for success, which I believe is drafting one high. Is there a chance to bust? Absolutely. There is a chance to select poorly at any position. We know this as much if not moreso than any other team. Will you have to pay a #1 quarterback a lot of money? Yes, but any player you select #1 overall is going to get huge money and is likely to be the highest paid player on your team. The Bills certainly need help at nearly every position, but my contention is that trying to acquire an elite-level quarterback gives your team a chance to rebuild past endless 7-9 seasons and compete for championships for a decade. Draft the face of your franchise. Gain credibility across the league, and watch the quality of your free agents increase. Build the less-important positions on your team with lesser valued draft selections and your improved status in free agency. Rebuild for a championship, not for mediocrity.
  21. Probably none but maybe Kyle Williams since defensive tackle is largely a reputation pick and he's been there before. Moorman is actually in the bottom half of the league in most all punting statistics so definitely not him. Also zero chance on Fitzpatrick. Would love to take action on that.
  22. You can't reverse the culture of losing without having the players capable to consistently win games. If you pit the best highschool football team, one that hasn't lost a game in a decade, against the worst NFL team, you know the results. A culture of winning is established by getting elite-level play from your most important players. The quarterback is the most important player.
  23. Actually, the most common thread amongst consistently winning franchises is getting elite-level play from a franchise quarterback.
  24. So 25% of his kicks are in poor weather. Thank you for making my point for me. That is like, a lot of them.
  25. Guys, I'm not saying that C.J. Spiller is no good or he is a bust. I'm just expressing my frustration that we wasted such a high draft pick on a player that doesn't get on the field. I don't know why ya'll don't want C.J. getting 25 touches a game if he is such an explosive game-changer. It really feels like a waste on many levels that our coaching staff has relegated him to the role of bit player, especially in light of many other rookies getting significant meaningful playing time. And if the reason why we don't let C.J. Spiller play is that Fred Jackson is just too good to limit his attempts, it really begs the question of why we drafted a player at a position manned by an untouchable incumbent. Either our coaching staff is wasting one of the league's superstar talents by depriving him of touches, or they think that he isn't as good as the #1 guy on the depth chart. Both of those options make me frown. Let's get C.J. 25 touches next game so we can get some return on our investment!
