Mario's contract is basically a 2 year deal
uncle flap replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We went over this when it happened. He had his wrist "scoped," which is a minimally invasive procedure. In a very simple sense, the Dr. inserts a narrow tube that clears out the "junk." In Mario's case he had scar tissue removed from his ligaments/tendons which immediately increased his range of motion and alleviated the pain he was suffering. Weird. It says Byrd's picture was taken on June 10.

So What Would a Successful Season Be For EJ?
uncle flap replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very difficult to hazard a guess to the numbers as we don't know much about the offense (especially what coaches are expecting of him), and a lot of that hinges on the WRs we don't know much about (as far as how they look when the real bullets are flying). I guess this is a cop out, but I'd say a successful season would showcase steady improvement by Manuel, as he likely won't be an All-Pro right out of the gate. I want to see mistakes corrected. I want to see that he continues to display the confidence and leadership qualities he's exhibited so far. Another way to say it (and also another cop out, I suppose), is that if he's successful, we will know it when we see it. -

What is Brad Smith's role this year?
uncle flap replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh course I could be wrong, but I highly doubt we'll see Smith in a red jersey. All signs have pointed to him playing WR exclusively, and I don't think a QB injury changes that. -
Well put. I'd like to add that the OP's assertion that SJ's lack of TDs (in and of itself) is an indication of some fault of Stevie's. Following that logic, SJ could have 3 catches in a drive for 45 yards, including two first downs, but because CJ subsequently scored a TD at the end of the drive, Stevie's contribution was irrelevant? Thanks for the laugh.

Eagles' WR Riley Cooper: Whoops!
uncle flap replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Now feel free to have the last word. I will preemptively reply with, "Good job! I expected nothing less!" Before the next time I stray from the Wall, I'll be sure to get a PhD. in proctology so I can deal with you !@#$s more efficiently. It was fun, !@#$faces. Smell ya later! -
Eagles' WR Riley Cooper: Whoops!
uncle flap replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Hey !@#$tard, the only reason that I "cherry picked" that quote is that it was YOUR original assertion, from which you subsequently backtracked once others made note of your asinine position. Any reasonable person who would read what you wrote would assume that you're a racist !@#$, and you've done nothing since to refute that. I didn't "take it out of context" as you imply, YOU put it out there without any provocation, and then were forced to create additional context to explain your harebrained allegation. If your implication wasn't that black people's problems are their own fault, because they're black, surely you would've phrased it in another way. And then you wouldn't go on to claim that "some cultures are better than others." Cultures can be defined ethnically or socially. You chose the former, then half-heartedly claim you meant the latter all along. I'm far from dishonest or lazy, although you are making a great case that you in fact are very much both. Nope, I'm still here. Please direct me to ANY post where I've denigrated anyone besides morons who had it coming. If you want to continue to move the goalposts and talk about your misguided perception of me, be my guest. Calling what I wrote "nonsense" speaks more to your cognitive deficiency than it does to my ability to communicate. I can dumb it down for you if you like: YOUR MISUNDERSTANDING OF WHAT I'VE WRITTEN IS A FAULT OF YOURS, NOT MINE. Since attempting to communicate with the likes of you has once again proven to be futile, I guess you "win," as I think I'm just about done here. "Haha, we drove that idiot out of here! Look how smart and powerful we are!" Congrats, dickhead. -
What is Brad Smith's role this year?
uncle flap replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone made mention the other day he may only keep 2 QBs. Let's also not forget that while it's not common, it also isn't unheard of to keep 7 WRs. Especially when a handful of them are (are or poised to be) impact special teamers. It may not be likely, but I can easily imagine a scenario where both Smith and Easley stick as the 6th and 7th WRs. I don't deny that Hogan is making a case for himself, but I just don't think he has the talent to stick. I have to assume that if he did, he wouldn't have been cut by the Dolphins last year, who really only had two established WRs. Someone on the Bills would really have to take a step back or suffer a somewhat serious injury for Hogan to supplant the guys ahead of him. -
Salary Cap Update as of 8-1-13.
uncle flap replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wrote this the other day: Since they they restructured Brad Smith's contract and signed those OL guys, the figures are slightly different, but at most, they can still only roll over $6 Mil to next year and they will likely have around $20 Mil to spend on draft picks, FAs, and re-signing whichever guys they want to keep. If you click the link to my post, there is a list of the players on the Bills in the last year of their contract. So while it may not seem like they're in cap trouble, Byrd and Wood will eat up a lot of that space. -

uncle flap replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, they've already got him for the next three years, so that would be one of the earliest extensions in the history of the game. And CJ strikes me as confident enough to realize he will continue to get even better and increase his value. He can be a good team mate and want to stay in Buffalo while still not wanting to pass up the chance at potentially earning many more millions as a reflection of his work. I could be wrong, but don't be surprised if both CJ and the Bills wait to see how the next two years at least play out. He can make up to $12 million his final year through incentives, which is nothing to sneeze at either. And just to play Devil's advocate, there are plenty of people who think it's less than wise to throw a ton of money at a 29 year old, when RBs historically hit a wall around the age of 30. -

Oh, please. To the bolded: You're obviously so narcissistic that you would project your own repressed prejudice on to me. Usually when someone writes "Seriously?" it's clearly meant to diminish the notion. As in, "There are actually morons here who would create a debate about such a thing?" The clowns that tried to link race as a cause of socioeconomic suffering are the only bigots I see here. Of course there is a chance you might have been sarcastic, but since that requires a modicum of intelligence, I'll assume that you weren't. Thanks for thinking of my genitalia. Finally, something you and your wife have in common. Once again, how vain it is of you to imagine that those of us who choose not to post here don't because we're scared of the big bad PPP tough guys. The truth is, most of us have better things to do then to spend all day defending our opinions to people unwilling to stray from their shallow and sheltered perceptions of the world. It'd be like you trying to convince me the sky isn't blue; You can insult me all you want and cite all the other boneheads who agree with you, but I'm not changing my mind. I recognize the futility of having a "discussion" with others who are fundamentally opposed to considering anything that doesn't fit in to their preconceived positions. So now that we have an understanding, I'll gladly continue to refrain from posting here, except when I'm in the mood for a laugh. But don't think for a second it's because I'm intimidated by any one of you. I actually think there are some interesting conversations that occur in PPP, but it's not worth navigating through the nonsensical posts by jerks like you to follow along. When I want to have an intelligent conversation, you better believe I'm not looking in this dark corner of the board. Again: I hope you find some satisfaction that your prophecy of me "speeding away" will come true. Please ignore the bulk of my post and focus on some minor detail in order to distort what I meant, or to conclude something completely irrelative to the point. I know you can't help but to do so. I'd be happy to continue to talk about the original topic as I think there is quite an interesting dynamic developing in the relationships between Cooper and his teammates. But since the topic was moved to PPP, all that's developed is a convoluted insult-fest encompassing LBJ's social programs and foreclosed housing. To me that speaks volumes. I can stoop to your level, I just don't make a habit of it. However, once in a while, I want to remind you douche bags that people like me can hack it, we just choose not to. It must be so exciting for you lonely old !@#$s when fresh meat walks in the place. Sorry to disappoint but I won't be staying long. If you're really that interested, I'm always willing to discuss football on the Wall, since we at least have some common ground there. -

Salary Cap Update as of 8-1-13.

The opposite is true. They pushed the majority of the money to next year, likely with the idea that they'd use the space on extending Byrd. -

Albert Breer ✔ @AlbertBreer LeSean McCoy told me what hurts about Cooper's remarks is "losing a friend." I asked him what that meant, "I can't respect a guy like that." 2:28 PM - 1 Aug 2013 http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/lesean-mccoy-says-lost-friend-riley-cooper-t-200733255.html Oh, never mind, I thought this topic was about Riley Cooper. My mistake. But seriously, it's amusing that no one replied to my earlier post (save jboyst's snide dodging anything of substance). The PPP tough guys must be quivering in their boots when faced with such a superior intellect! It's cool if you feel that way and I understand. It must be tough to constantly argue tangentially related points that will be used to misrepresent the crux of the matter. I mean look- this topic went from a racist white guy to a discussion on Black Culture (seriously?"Black Culture?") to nitpicking about the moieties of the financial world. You guys must be a riot at parties! I should venture on down to PPP more often, they say laughter is good for your health. Nah, just kidding. I think we all are content with the frequency of my drive by posts. Go Bills! -
Manny Lawson article
uncle flap replied to HankBulloughMellencamp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
HAHAHA often AND frequently? They did run at Scott quite a bit (you could say repeatedly) but there was also a drive where Barnett was picked on the entire length of the field. Want my Game Rewind password so you can see for yourself? He's right. Identifying the mike backer doesn't mean you're going to run at him. EVERY QB (or center) IDENTIFIES THE MIKE ON EVERY PLAY. I hate how "43 is the mike" has turned into some kind of meme here that is used to praise Brady and/or rag on Scott. I like the guy, but Barnett hit a wall and I think a big part of the D's problem was guys trying to compensate for him. -
Nicely done. Thanks for the effort. I think it goes without saying that pressure helps the coverage. If you've got good coverage, you may not need the pressure. There are a few variables that don't seem to be included in the analysis. I imagine down and distance play a big role, as well as the schemes and the tendencies of each team on both sides of the ball. I think the conclusion is correct that good coverage trumps all, but I'm guessing that if you *know* you've got good coverage, you don't need to generate as much pressure. The DCs philosophy likely plays a big role in this too. If he is confident in his DBs, he may feel more comfortable sending extra blitzers and leaving his guys in single coverage. He may just as likely feel comfortable not emphasizing attacking the QB, because he doesn't think his secondary needs the boost from pressure, and lets the DBs and LBs sit back in zones. I find it interesting there is no mention about man vs zone in the article, nor any correlation to run defense. If a team is stout against the run, the odds increase in their favor defending the longer passes required to convert 3rd downs. As far as implications regarding the Bills, I'd say I'm on board with Pettine's philosophy of pressuring (as well as creating the threat and/or illusion of pressure) will help the secondary. Coverage trumps all but I assume pressure helps a weak secondary more than it would a secondary that is strong on its own. Perhaps Wannstedt's biggest downfall is that he thought his players were talented enough to simply win each individual battle. But like a house of cards, it only takes one screw up to dismantle his entire scheme. An attacking defense should help out some of the DBs to an extent, but I'll certainly agree with the stats here: Pressure is not a substitute for coverage.

More Mario Questions for the press?
uncle flap replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I saw this on the Big Lead yesterday or the day before but decided not to post it here, hoping it wouldn't get picked up by PFT or Deadspin because, you know, "it's always something with Mario." Unless Mario bribed this academy, this is yet another non story. And even if he did, my main concern is his on field performance. Which is pretty damn good contrary to the belief of many here. -

uncle flap replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Don't hold your breath. I thought it was clear what I meant: I assumed that you're not racist (or homophobic, for that matter), but your post was patently illogical. What's equally as absurd is how this topic about a racist knucklehead devolved into blaming [some?] black people for acting in a way that they deserve to be discriminated against, and by implication, that it's no big deal to call them whatever one wants. If they're offended, that's their problem. To the narrow minded "not racist but calling it like I see it" numbskulls that subsequently chimed in: You have every right to formulate your own opinions and share them, but don't think for a second that you're going to convince me or anyone else that disagrees that you're "right." Keep patting each other on the back for "owning" those of us who dare to disagree with you. I'd argue (but not in this forum, as it would fall on deaf ears) that there have been intentional and systematic political processes designed to keep poor people down. Since black people weren't given equal footing in this country to begin with, and this system is largely still in place (just more cleverly hidden), is it any surprise there is a significant discrepancy in the statistics so many here are quick to cite? Look, I'm all for personal responsibility, but it's naive or stupid not to realize the deck is stacked against a huge portion of the US population. If pulling yourself up by your bootstraps was so easy, don't you think most would've already done so? Or are some of you just going to fall back on, "Blacks must just be stupid and lazy?" -

uncle flap replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don't think you would have posted this if you realized how racist it makes you seem. If you're not racist, you don't EVER use the word the way Cooper used it. He obviously wasn't joking. And to your edit: that reflects the board being behind the times. Those words are equally offensive, and if the board sees fit to censor one, they should censor them all. It seems that you're implying that because "society" doesn't do the sensible thing, that it's okay. Let's thank god that you live in modern day North Carolina (btw, the most racist place I've ever been) and not Nazi Germany. Durr... "society" says Jews are the spawn of satan... let's ride with that... Sorry for the harsh words- I'm hoping that you just didn't really think this through, as I figure you probably didn't mean to tacitly endorse racism and homophobia. -

FWIW, this seems to have happened on June 8 and Cooper was on stage with Chesney. And there were allusions to his racism then. I guess it just takes Deadspin to really get a story traction. -
Johnny Manziel: "Too many red flags."
uncle flap replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in College Football
The thing about that is, he doesn't seem capable of doing so. Or at least he isn't willing. I'm not saying he definitely can't or won't, but it's interesting to me that it's easy to dismiss his exploits as "just being a kid," and saying "I did boneheaded stuff when I was his age," while the vast majority of dozens of high profile college QBs are keeping their noses clean. It's one thing to screw up once or twice and have that be a wake-up call. It's another to habitually act as if you don't have care in the world, and lack empathy or an appreciation for the broad scope of things that exist outside one's immediate surroundings at any given time. I guess all I'm saying is that Manziel's pattern of behavior could be meaningless - but if I was in his camp, I' d find it troubling because if he hasn't been listening to his parents or coaches or other positive influences thus far, why would he start now? I think he either doesn't "get it," as in understanding how his actions impact his image, or he doesn't care. Both of those make me think the light isn't going to suddenly come on for him. -
So sick and tired of (most) local Buffalo media guys...
uncle flap replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, you didn't. But Graham and a slew of other local media people ran with a story painting Marrone as a hot head using edited footage to support that image. WGR actually played the entire exchange and I commend both you and Marrone for regaining composure - although I hesitate to imply that Marrone lacked composure at any point. JW- I think you're a great reporter and it's a shame you seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back, but I also think that parts of "doing your job" are antagonistic. So I think it's fair to criticize the media as a whole for manufacturing a story. Because Marrone would have no reason to "grow annoyed" if you guys weren't annoying. Again, I recognize your right to be annoying, and that the "badgering" can result in stories. But I still don't think the story should be, "Look at Marrone's Reaction to Us." Rather than headlines reading "Marrone is Annoyed," IMO a better one might be "Marrone Doesn't Have Answers on Mario's Status." If you or others want to insinuate Marrone isn't being forthcoming, write it in your story and cite evidence. To questions a man's integrity- to his face- and then act shocked that he has a mild reaction seems a little sensationalist to me. Regardless, keep up the good work. I'm a big fan, and I hope my post helps you better understand where this criticism is coming from. I don't envy your position as a public figure, and have the utmost respect that you are willing to face such criticism and even enter into a dialogue about said criticisms. -
Oh, it's been going on for nearly as long as I remember, and I'm almost 30. The Sabres stories are also more often than not broken by TSN and other national media outlets. SInce WGR became the official Bills station recently, they've seemingly given Joe B some access. WGRZ has seemingly lost theirs with the departure of Ed Kilgore. I am by no means advocating that the media refrain from asking tough questions, but maintaing a chronically hostile and hypercritical attitude toward the big league franchises results in a loss of access and a contentious relationship.
