  1. Yeah but they didn't develop him. So it's like he's starting from scratch, if indeed the Bills were at fault for not properly coaching and developing him. He's a third stringer that barley sees the field now, but maybe he'll pick it up after another year or two. Maybe he's a late bloomer and we haven't seen the best of him yet. Then again, it could just be that he's inherently physically limited and will never fully transition from college stud to NFL difference maker. Which is probably more likely.
  2. Yeah, I'm still holding out for Bradham to step up, but I think between him, Moats, and Sheppard, you probably wouldn't see much of a difference plugging any of them into Pettine's D right now. Sheppard might be the worst of the the three but not by much. And I mean that as a compliment to Sheppard, not as a dis to the others.
  3. Poz is definitely a solid starting LB. The definition of a downhill thumper. Solid tackler, and despite being slow, not a complete liability in coverage. In a sense they are similar players, at least as far as the role they play. The thing with Sheppard is that he's fine in space, he just constantly gets neutralized at the point of attack. Not fast or quick enough to be a coverage LB tho. I know numbers don't always tell the whole story, but Poz has continued to be a tackling machine. I realize he doesn't make enough of the splash plays like Kiko, or get in the backfield enough to be recognized as one of the better LBs in the league, but I think most GMs would take him in a heart beat. In regard to comparing the two- I guess this is kind of a dodge, but I don't really link the two. Like I said, Poz is a guy you'd be happy to have on your team, but you'd still always be looking for an upgrade since he plays a premier position, IMO. So, I guess you could say the Kelvin effect is twofold: You don't realize what you got 'til it's gone, and I think we all collectively wanted Kelvin to be that "splash" impact LB that Poz wasn't. We all wanted a Keuchly or a Kiko and wound up with a Kelvin. However, I think no matter who preceded Kelvin, we would've been equally disappointed.
  4. You and me both. I soooooo wanted him to be good, that I totally gave him too much credit for his rare successes and was too willing to overlook his shortcomings. Coming out of college her really looked like a baller. Not in the mold of Urlacher or Willis, but definitely a difference maker, and it seemed like he could lay the lumber. I still contend that he has the instincts, it's just his lack of strength and burst that hold him back form being a solid starting MLB. It seems he diagnoses the play just fine, but can't shed a block to save his life. I wonder if things would've been different for him had he been drafted to another organization. Maybe he wasn't able to develop properly here.
  5. Thanks. This seems lost on many here. And you didn't even mention that they are putting points on the board regardless. And you didn't even mention that the Bills have been in every game until the sometimes bitter end. And you didn't even mention that the playbook has grown each and every week. I have to think if Hackett's offense was blowing people out of the water and putting up like 40 every week, a lot of the same people criticizing him now would be calling him "classless" for running up the score and giving him guff for being an immature hot dog. I also think that if many had a better understanding of how the packaged plays that Hackett calls actually work, they'd be foaming at the mouth for what it would look like when they are properly executed. EJ missed a TON of defensive keys and subsequent reads while he was in there. I'm not just talking about the read option. If EJ develops into who we want him to be, the offense is going to be very, very dangerous.
  6. What about the mother? Just as easily as anyone can paint AP and other NFL players as irresponsible and juvenile, one can paint these women as floozies, groupies, and gold diggers. I'm not saying the men are completely innocent - it is irresponsible to potentially conceive a child when you have no intention of raising said child, but I'm just trying to point out that these women are equally, if not more so, guilty of creating the same scenario. If you are a single woman unable or unwilling to raise a child all by yourself, then you should be on birth control. I realize that sounds sexist, but that's my counter to those that are looking to blame "serial fathers," while seemingly refusing to acknowledge that "it takes two to tango."
  7. "Redskins": A Native's Guide To Debating An Inglorious Word I think everyone should read this, no matter your opinion on the subject. It's written by a Native American, and I think it provides a pretty fair analysis of the debate. Even if you disagree, it's at least some good food for thought.
  8. They did add Brandon Burton. There really wasnt much out there. IRing Hopkins would've gave them another roster spot, but Burton hardly saw the field anyway. I imagine if they had another injury, they would've IRed Hopkins or somebody, but the issue wasn't numbers at DB, it was talent. As bad as Rogers was, there wasn't anyone out there that was ready to do a better job, IMO. Also, IMO, I place the blame on Pettine for not helping Rogers with a safety often enough. It seemed when he did, it was Searcy, who is not a cover safety. I agree the FO should've been more proactive overall, but it's tough to predict injuries. Depth is important, but despite all that's happened, they've still been in every game. It's hard for me to think, "If they had just signed _________, they would have a better record right now."
  9. Cinci has a pretty good o line, but it did seem Byrd was a little tentative taking on blockers and attacking the ball. Perhaps he was just adjusting to the live bullets flying (physically and mentally) - I don't think he was on the field much in the second half IIRC.
  10. I expected this to be someone bashing him for not breaking up that incredible TD catch, despite him playing extremely well otherwise. Before someone says, "If he would've just turned his head around..." please realize that Green is a beast and was going to high point that ball anyway. McKelvin's best bet there anyway was to try to dislodge the ball, and while he didn't do a good job at that either, I'm not going to fault him for losing a one on one battle against one of the best WRs in the league. I'm looking forward to seeing how McKelvin does the rest of the year. Presumably Gilmore will be shutting down his side, and with Brooks coming back, the middle will be better covered. That will lead to QBs throwing McKelvin's way more often. Hopefully, he can keep up the good work. Leodis will never live up to his draft position, but I'm still glad he's on the team. That said, I'd still take a CB in one of the first three rounds next year.
  11. Per Rapoport, LaCanfora, and others, Bills expected to sign Matt Flynn Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet2m Bills plan to sign QB Matt Flynn today, per source. Add him to the Jeff Tuel, Thad Lewis mix
  12. I was actually glad, bc my lazy a** never bothered to unsubscribe so I've been getting double notifications- one form vtext, one from the app
  13. Yeah it's weird that they keep the helmet with such a mismatch scheme. Electric green doesn't go with most uniforms, and at least the red white and blue represented the league. What does neon tangerine represent? If they did all black vs all white it'd look better I think.
  14. I know no one cares about the injury risking popularity contest, but what do you guys think about these getups? More here: http://espn.go.com/n...adical-facelift
  15. I hope I'm right too. I have no reason to doubt one of my "sources" in particular, but I am wondering why no official announcement. I'm guessing they have to free up a roster spot. It'd be tough to keep 4 QBs on the active roster if they aren't considering Tuel to the PS. The only other guy I can think of them bringing in with PS eligibility is BJ Coleman, although I'm sure I'm forgetting some UDFAs.
  16. Also, not to turn this into a rumor thread, but just heard from third independent reliable source that Dixon is signing with the Bills after all.
  17. I could agree with that, but they still have to sign somebody. Even if it's not Tuel, they need somebody to run the PS. So with Lewis starting, they need a backup or a PS QB. Their options are sign a PS QB, or sign a backup and move Tuel to the PS. I would rather they sign Dixon or White and move Tuel to the PS. If they keep Tuel activated, who else is out there to run the PS? Keep in mind this is the same organization that "planned" to start Tuel Week 1.
  18. I found one: Jeff Tuel.
  19. OK the other QB thread was closed so I'm starting a new one. Mods, please don't lock this: The Bills still need to pick up another QB and both Dixon and White have been rumored to be on the cusp of signing. Marrone even said this morning on the radio that they haven't "officially signed a QB, but what we're looking to do is bring up Thaddeus..." The Bills have to sign somebody. If Thad goes down, they're right back where they started. They need a practice squad QB, and Tuel would fit the bill (pardon the pun), if they bring in a vet. Marrone also wouldn't outright dismiss Pat White. Here's the audio: http://audio.wgr550.com/a/81901694/10-7-doug-marrone-announces-thad-lewis-as-starter.htm Now, for all Marrone's "straight-shooter" talk, I think he is overdoing it. Just Friday, he point blank answered: Q: How does Thad Lewis factor in to this? When you say you’re looking for a quarterback does that mean outside the organization or is he one that you’d also be looking at? A: Outside the organization. I realize things change, and I won't be surprised at all if in a few days or hours when White or Dixon is signed that Marrone says, "Well, we wanted a PS QB, but there weren't any met our criteria, so we decided to demote Tuel." So, do you think the Bills/Marrone is/are playing coy and that White or Dixon actually are on the verge of officially signing? Who else is out there that the Bills could consider? Anyone heard anything on David Carr? He was supposed to visit today. Is Buffalo competing with Oakland for Dixon and White, and is Flynn now in the mix? I think there is a lot to discuss that doesn't exactly fit into the current conversations taking place in other threads.
  20. Carr now a possibility too: David White ‏@bydavidwhite7m Breaking news in the column: @DCarr8 (that's David Carr) slated for a workout Mon w/@RAIDERS. Bucs and Bills have also called. #indemand
  21. FWIW some guy form Oakland responded to a tweet of mine about Dennis Dixon and said he's working out for the Bills tomorrow. He works at Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area, so maybe he's got some inside info- Dixon is from Oakland.
