If Evans gets cut do you want him back
dpberr replied to ALLEN1QB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd say no. Sequels very very rarely better than the original movie. I'll spend the money elsewhere. That was a bad trade for the Ravens. They got nothing out of it. -
FWIW, this isn't a new security procedure. Looks like somebody felt the need to be famous and leaked pictures to make it look like a big deal. Police snipers have been a regular presence at major events since the late 60s and even more so since 1972. If German law enforcement had the ability to position trained police snipers, the Munich massacre may not have ended the way it sadly did. German law at the time prevented the military from intervening in the hostage situation.
-
My guess, based on the pictures, it's a custom made rifle, based off a Remington 700 action with a TacOps 30 suppressor and Picatinny rails. Probably in a .308 caliber. It's not the A5. Those guys are there to guard against the not really crazy "somebody could strap a vest on of plastic explosives and try to get on the field" or "somebody just took hostages in a luxury box" type of scenarios. Police on the field may not have the clear shot that you'd have from that vantage point with a trained marksman.

Pro Bowl LT option for fraction of the cost
dpberr replied to NY Nole's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a chance, OP. The Bills would be absolute fools to sign McNeil. Spinal stenosis plus extensive neck and back surgeries. Plural. Throw in age, too and that the back of a lineman is put under great stress every play. What about that makes him appealing as a player that will stay on the field? The man tempts fate just playing. He's one play away from making that whole "walking when I'm 50" not a when but an if. -
Good to know. Thanks for pointing that out. I was up there in 2003 for the 31-0 rematch drubbing when it was grass. Guess I hadn't paid attention since then on television.
-
I agree. It's good he plays on a grass surface, which probably helps a little. I also don't get the impression he takes care of his body like say T.O. did, which I believe you need to do to have a long career in the NFL.
-
The Bills said he'd be extended. Front offices don't make those proclamations lightly as retreating from said proclamations really sends bad vibes through all the agents representing all the draft picks and free agents you've got to work with down the road. A long term deal may not be practical, but extending one of your best players despite injury and age, does have payoff in the future with other agents. You get a reputation for leaving your injured players out in the cold, you'll find it real difficult next to impossible to resign and sign players.

I take Eli. Man plays on the road, outside, wherever, and wins. You think about the road the Giants had to take to get the Super Bowl in 2008 and on Sunday, and it's incredible. Lots of road games. Besides being clutch, he excels in a pressure cooker of criticism.
-
He didn't produce when healthy for Tampa Bay. The Bills front office would have been burnt to the ground if Bowers had that sort of production in a Bills uniform. Where the Bucs picked him....it's less of a tragedy.
-
Love the idea, hate the theoretical execution of the idea. One year wonders in the Big Ten from a mediocre program in a top ten draft pick....we've seen that movie before. Outside of Aaron Maybin, Mercilus reminds me a lot of the hype surrounding Bowers last year. He finished his rookie season with 25 tackles, 1.5 sacks. Now, that may be alright where the Bucs picked him, but at one time, Bowers was being discussed as a Top 5 pick. Bills need a plug and play defensive player with an established record of production.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your Super Bowl Halftime Show
dpberr replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think you can cater to everyone....that's why the vote by the public works. I have no idea who they were catering to with Madonna and a menagerie of modern acts that really didn't fit well together. To really make it awkward, they should have brought Toby Keith down from the rafters and Tone Loc from a seat in the crowd, to the background music of whoever's left of KC and the Sunshine Band. If you are going to start a grease fire, be glorious. Don't do it halfway as you did the last two years, NFL. -
Goodell to consider eliminating Pro Bowl
dpberr replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Get rid of the Pro Bowl and replace it with a 32 team bracket of "fan" team playoff games. Each NFL team picks 11 fans (through tryout and by season ticket holders or some litmus test) to play flag football. Rules being you can't have played any college or pro ball or moonlighting in some forgotten Arena league. Just your average, marginally in shape guys that are fans of the game. Coached by NFL coaches and or players of the select team, i.e the Buffalo fans are coached by Bills players or coaches. Each game would have open betting. Winning bets go to the charity of team choice. If you're a good team, your charity would be making a lot of money as you climb the brackets. Winning fan team gets free Super Bowl tickets, winning NFL coaches/players get some cash. Winning "conference" team gets the coin toss in the Super Bowl. -
State funding for RWS Stadium improvements?
dpberr replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the case of the Bills, what would Orchard Park do with an empty stadium and acres of stadium parking? Would they ever realistically find a use for the site absent a cost prohibitive demolition of the stadium? The way I see it, should the Bills leave in theory, the state would end up pumping untold millions right back to OP and the County to do something with the underutilized site. It's akin to the difficulty of trying to develop an abandoned military base. -
Bills most disappointing loss since the Super Bowls
dpberr replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills had their shots in the 4th quarter of that Jacksonville game. The MSM was just a sudden, devastating ending to a football game post SB years like I hadn't seen before or since that fateful day. -

Music City Miracle was a shotgun blast to the chest. I don't even remember that Jacksonville game. -

I wish they'd let the public vote on the halftime show. NFL gives 10 or so acts to choose from in a bracket format. Public votes. Boom. A show the majority wants to watch. -
The Giants SB Win Proves...
dpberr replied to BillsNeedaQBin2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Super Bowl proved that what we saw last night was the beginning of the end for the Patriots empire. With a lot to do in free agency, age, a slew of unspectacular drafts and a bunch of AFC teams getting stronger, the Patriots will struggle to get back to the big game. -
Goodell to consider eliminating Pro Bowl
dpberr replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its existence is probably tied to the CBA. -
He has a point about the rookie experience. That was invaluable and couldn't have gone better considering the lockout took away a bunch of prep and practice time. Give them a full camp and these guys will be even better. I also agree that Wannstedt as DC probably adds a win or two. Replacing Edwards made the offseason a win already in my eyes.

Haha at the Chris Doleman vote. Nobody outside Vikings football would remember him. A good player on a lot of eh Vikings teams. Kevin Greene had a better career.

Goes to show the utter lack of trust in Thigpen by the coaching staff. -

Godell may just save the Bills afterall...
dpberr replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL doesn't need 34 teams. Hell, you could cut a couple and have an even better league. Same goes for the NBA, NHL and especially MLB. Too many teams as it is. -
I live in the "Lehigh Valley" which includes the Bangor School District where this teacher was previously employed. This teacher, is the latest in a line of female child predators locally. They just sentenced another female teacher to five years in state prison for having sex with a 17 year old on prom night. The defense tried using the fact that said minor was only a week shy of his 18th birthday and "it only happened once". I don't know about other states, but judges in Pennsylvania are starting to give equally harsh sentences to female teachers that commit these crimes. They get pretty significant jail time and a Megans Law listing.
