That's a good point. I'd probably describe him as less experienced/proven than Orton, and thus a riskier proposition, but I wouldn't necessarily assume he's worse. He's played to Orton's level, just not sustained over as long a period.

Marshawn has enough value that he doesn't have to fetch the bosses coffee. He can tell the boss to suck it. If the boss decides to fire him he'll have a lot easier time finding another boss than the boss will have finding another him.

Doesn't that seem kinda gay to have a football league where everyone has to be both a football player and a spokesman? Kind of like a band where being an extremely talented musician won't land you the gig unless you've got nice hair, a great smile, and can dance to choreographed numbers. I remember a league that wanted to have player interaction be a bigger part of the entertainment experience. It was called the XFL. And it sucked. Bottom line, I know some people get off on watching men they idolize recite canned lines, but I for one, and I assume many others share this sentiment, want to watch the best football players in the world compete against each other. Not the best football players who also have charisma and stage presence. And not the best players who don't smoke weed or or toot rails off of strippers asses for that matter. I want to watch the best players. I don't give a !@#$ what they have to say. Most of them are dumb as **** anyway. Edit: BTW, don't read this as an attack on you. Your post just provided the best set-up for my rant.

That's bull ****, man. These guys have one shot at making big money and when it comes to matters like this they have a take it or leave it adhesion contract. Of course they're going to sign it. If the XFL execs want to fine him for it they have the contractual right to. Just like he has the right to skip the pressers and pay the fines. If they had any decency they'd have a modicum of compassion for a guy who isn't comfortable in front of the cameras and give him a break. But they don't have any compassion. All that "no more" bull **** is just a marketing ploy to appease the brain dead dip ***** who think social engineering is the league's responsibility. They don't give a !@#$ about the players, and this (just like the 18 game season Goodell so badly wants) is just another example of that.

He looked good in 2009 too. Not so much in 2010, but that Carolina team was a straight up dumpster fire. They weren't any better in games he didn't start.

Why?

No ****. I can't think of anything less interesting than a player press conference. You know the answers before they speak. And if anyone ever has the audacity to show some fire (a la Richard Sherman) the establishment freaks out and demands the boring, trite, canned cliches. I don't get it.

I read a piece a year or two ago that made a fairly convincing case for Moore being better than Tannehill. I don't know if I agree with that at this point, but he was pretty good the last time he saw significant action back in 2011. In 13 games (12 starts) he averaged 7.2 ypa, threw 16 TDs to 9 INT, and went 6-6 with a sorry Dolphins team that went 0-4 in games he didn't start. I doubt he'll make any pro-bowls but he's a decent pro that will give us at least Ortonesque production if not better, and if EJ or someone else beats him out for the starting job then he will have earned it.

How was he being a real dick about it? They've fined him over $100k for it. What's he supposed to say? Thank you sir, may I have another?

One had something to do with the actual product the NFL produces. The other was a private act whose only connection to the NFL is it was perpetrated by an employee of one NFL ffranchise. A mentally impaired monkey coming off a 3 day bender could see the difference. Too bad self-righteous douche bags peddling to a public with a median IQ of 100 run most major media outlets, otherwise we wouldn't have had to listen to morons across America sharing their emotionally charged yet intellectually vacant outrage at the NFL for something it had nothing to do with.
-
I don't care about Lynch one way or another, but I think it's shameful that the NFL fines him for not talking to the press. He's obviously uncomfortable with it so why can't they cut the guy some !@#$ing slack?

First off, how is one to accurately grade a draft without the benefit of hindsight? Secondly, it was well established going into that draft that it was one of the deepest drafts in years both in terms of overall talent, but also at the WR position specifically. So it's a bit disingenuous to claim that it's a "hindsight witch hunt" when people were making the exact same arguments before the draft last year.

Thanks. I was just curious because I'd never heard he'd played 14 games. It's news to me.

Has anyone considered that Mariota might not be the first pick? He's got question marks. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Leonard Williams went first overall. Can anyone confirm this? We could call our QB situation "The Two Jakes."

Isn't that the guy who killed it in preseason only to get cut? -
Is that true? Has EJ really played 14 games?

I'm sure we've got a few in this thread that think she got what she had coming. Like this guy -
Browns seem done with Johnny Manziel; enters rehab

I'm okay with it, although I'd investigate deeper to see if I thought the attitudinal aspects were manageable before pulling the trigger. -
Tomato/Tomahto. If the Browns drafted Watkins then traded him for the same compensation we'd both have ended up in the exact position we're in respectively and it would be factually indisputable that we trwaded two firsts and a 4th for Watkins. It's like one guy says a + b = c and the other guy says it's wrong because c - b = a. You can dress it up however you like but it's still the same thing.
-
I think this is how we should judge the move. It's not just Watkins v ODB, but to what extent he ultimately stands out from his draft class. Anytime you have a rookie WR that racks up ~ 1000 yds you can't really say you missed on the pick, but when 4 other rookie WRs from the same class have as good or better statistical production it's fair to wonder if the price was too high. I don't think he necessarily has to be the best to justify the move - If SW goes on to have a HOF career I won't knock it b/c ODB has a HOF career also, but if he doesn't separate himself from the rest of the pack I think it will be safe to say that perhaps 2 1sts and a 4th was too high a price. Obviously we won't really know for a few more years, but 1 year out that's how it looks.

That's a myth.

There's a difference between whether I accept the league's right to do it and whether I think he deserves his fate. It's a pretty chilly POV.
