The Bills don't need a Gabe replacement. They need a better player than Gabe and that's what the draft should provide. But I think Mack Hollins is very Gabe-like in many regards. Including being a bit of a weirdo.

Yep. And Harty to an extent. His closer comp is Andre Holmes who was the first WR add of the McD regime in 2017.........but just like Sharty and Sherfield, Hollins has only one season of production in a long career.........but some fans will hang their hat on that.

Yeah the improved strength from weight training and PED's helped make players more powerful but taking them away has turned MLB rosters into injured lists.

I gotta' say that stressing about what the Bills exact cap number is at this moment is the definition of OCD. They've made most of the moves. Getting well past cap compliant was never going to be THAT difficult.

I think we know that short of getting a big difference maker in the TJ Watt or Chris Jones category they aren't really making a big difference against Mahomes come playoff time regardless of who they add from the available free agents. This offseason should be about elevating the passing offense.

They are tight with Jones and Gabe Davis so they had a lot of immediate details on how Davis' deal went down.

I just remember being shocked when the Bills were on the clock. I had thought all along that maybe the Bills understood that Aaron Donald was the best defensive player in that draft and would just wait for him to fall into their lap. Everybody that passed on Aaron Donald looks like an idiot now. He dominated college football..........so clearly better than Khalil Mack..........and has become the best defensive player regardless of position of the first quarter of the 21st century NFL. Mack was a stud years 2-4 in Oakland but had largely been unimpactful, overpaid and overrated for the next 5 years until he blew up last season again.

I know run defense makes a lot of people emotional every time the Bills give up more than 3 yards on a given run...........but I just don't see teams deciding to go against what they do best to run to the weak side of the formation to take advantage of AJE. And on the strong side Rousseau is maybe the NFL's best run defender on the edge. I agree that Epenesa is a work in progress and that this contract is basically presuming to some extent that he will improve his entire game.........but the run defense aspect doesn't concern me all that much.

Agree. It's such a mediocre edge draft class though. They might not even be able to get a decent developmental one in the draft this year..........especially after losing that 3rd round comp pick.........so getting AJE for 2 years makes a lot of sense.

Beane used to spend this kind of money on Josh Norman and AJ Klein to be backups.

Production from the position is what matters. You add up Barkley and Jacobs careers and they have produced a very league-average 4.2 yards per carry. I know people think that the running game is coming back..........but in reality yards per rush were down across the league last year(from 4.5 in 2022 down to 4.2 in 2023)..........and Barkley and Jacobs were both under 4.0 yards per carry. Paying those guys that money is just stupid..........but it is common for teams to make stupid mistakes in the first days of free agent.

Yeah @HappyDays posted this in the free agency tracker last night. I don't think the timing is right for the Bills because he and his agent obviously think they will get a big deal and I suspect the Bills are shopping more in the $5M-$10M aav range for a 1 tech. But his wife's large, close-knit family are local to the southern tier area. He met her after a Bills game in Buffalo. Wouldn't be surprised if he finishes his career with Bills.

Yeah Wood had an assortment of injuries which caused him to alter his game. The torn ACL was another play where he chased a play downfield trying to get a shot on DeMarcus Ware when the play had gone away from him. He had to become a smarter and more finesse and careful player to stay healthy and he adapted. Morse did as well. I think you mean McGovern but anchoring in pass pro is actually one of the strengths of McGovern's game. He's exceptional at it.

I think I'm clued in on how pro sports ownership works. It's quite simple, really. I was also clued in that Joe Paterno's self-righteous act was a fraud. Though I had no idea he was letting his DC do what he was doing. That was a whole other level. Shame on you guys. Not sure Sandusky State East can ever live that blind-eye down.

Personally, I think they wanted someone at center who could anchor better against big DT's as much as they wanted younger/healthier. Morse could be pushed around in tight quarters and with the concussion history I think that was something he had to concede in his game to stay healthy. Eric Wood had to adjust his game similarly after all of his injuries early in his career as well(including having his leg snapped trying to anchor against a bigger DT). 2 pages and no "see, we should have drafted Creed Humphrey 4 years ago" references?

We've run the gauntlet over the years with Ralph Wilson indulging John Butler's over-spending in the late 1990's and then 15 years of mostly cash-to-the-cap after that followed by Pegula indulging Beane's over-spending. Anyone who has been a Bills fan for 25 years or so knows that in the end your statement doesn't actually mean anything. Players all think they are the exception and agents all know that it's pretty much the same everywhere(by design). If the up front money is right and you have a franchise QB like Josh Allen you will be an attractive organization to play for.
