Super Bowl Thread: KC at Tampa Bay
starrymessenger replied to Artem Lipatov's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
JMO but I think the Bucs are quite capable of both controlling the ball and also putting up points on KCs defence. I think they could win even a high scoring game. The Bucs D will not be the joke ours was either. PM and Andy will have their hands full. -
Super Bowl Thread: KC at Tampa Bay
starrymessenger replied to Artem Lipatov's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True. And the Chiefs, not the Bucs, are the main competition (and therefore the enemy) going forward. I’m not normally all that partisan but the loss has left me with a taste for revenge, however its enacted and wherever it comes from. I dont blame them for beating us. I blame a very banged up receiving corps (nobody’s fault) and a bad gameplan on both sides of the ball (coaches” fault) that pretty much guaranteed that the more talented team overall would win. Regardless of sentiment, I think the Bucs will win unless Brady screws up. He’s still a very good QB but more accident prone than before. But he does, even in decline, bring more to the Bucs than Peyton did the Broncos, and Manning still got his ring. -
Daboll apologized to Beasley, Diggs after loss

Exactly. What I don’t understand tho is how McD and Frazier could have come up with such a stupid gameplan. They are both good and experienced coaches. They should not need to be schooled by anyone. When you are going against the best offence and QB in the league with multiple weapons, your best strategy is to do what you can to disrupt their execution with pressure even if you risk being burned. You absolutely have to play aggressively. Rushing 4 leaves Mahomes all the time he needs to pick you apart especially when you fail to play man against a player like Kelce and don’t selectively double cover him. Staying in zone is a lot like not covering him at all. Finding the seams/open areas is what he does. Simple pitch and catch all day long. Agree about the Bucs. And thats one reason why I think they will beat KC. If they lose it will be because Brady screws up. -
The running game has to be there vs KC this week.
starrymessenger replied to Toyo321's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills will run somewhat more than we have seen recently IMO. I think we will see more of Allen in the run game, some designed, some when coverage is good. There should be opportunities there to extend drives that way, especially later in the game when the KC front, which is big, is baffed out. Chiefs are not great against the run. But the Bills are a passing team and they will mostly go with what brought them to the dance. -
Its apparent that the Bills are capable of playing at a high level on both sides of the ball, even though we often have one side bailing the other out. I’m hoping obviously that we get the best of both tomorrow. I have a feeling that the D comes up big but frankly I worry about the health of our WRs.

I think the Bills will pick their poison by doubling Kelce and Hill and take their chances with Hardman and with the Chiefs running game. They will give KC the running game, like in the earlier matchup, because thats not what the Chiefs do best. When I say double Kelce and Hill (and more Kelce than Hill IMO) I dont mean to say that they will make their intentions obvious or do it all the time. Obviously they will cheat and sometimes flat out guess depending upon the situation, but I expect them to be aggressive. They will at the same time selectively bring pressure to make it more difficult for PM to find his second or third read. if PMs mobility is compromised that will greatly help Frazier & Co.

Gabe not practicing today...

The whole Bills offence runs through Allen and the passing game. If Davis is limited and cannot play thats a big problem. You can’t count on the same production from a guy like Stills or Kumerow who are essentially air dropped in and with whom Allen doesn’t have the same familiarity and who just aren’t as good anyway. If Beas is limited the way he was against the Ravens thats an even bigger problem. All he was able to do against Baltimore was run the same shallow crossing route over and over again. That leaves most of what he brings off the table. When healthy he’s a lot more than a third down conversion specialist. He’s a major playmaking option for Allen pretty much anywhere up to the outer boundaries of the intermediate zone with some YAC ability. I don’t like it. Its a problem if Butler can’t go too. He’s better than some give him credit for and he’s about the only big body they have on the DL. As for the Chiefs, PM’s turf toe will certainly limit his mobility especially as the game wears on. Not only will he be less able to scramble for crucial yards when that’s his best or only option, but many of his best and biggest throws are made outside the pocket and on the run. If I had my druthers I’d like to see everybody healthy. Thats the matchup I would want to see. If that were the case I’d see this game as even money. -
Well regarding Diggs there is that oblique thingy. I live with that as a chronic condition. Mine is quite mild and no biggy but I can easily imagine a more serious one being very painful, though pain by itself can be managed. Not trying to be alarmist but I am concerned about the health of our main receiving targets.
-
Yeah as you say the margin on many of our big plays is sometimes razor thin. Thats why they are so productive but they occur pretty much at at the limit of what the players are capable of. Take that edge away because the guys are banged up and the O will be much less explosive. If you need Knox and the running game to pick up the slack you are in fallback mode and not going with your best. Of course that doesnt mean that they dont step up but still. I see that Diggs too is limited. Prolly doesnt mean much but I’m not sure hes 100% either.

What worries me about this game is the fear that our receiving corps is not healthy, specifically Beas and Brown and possibly McKenzie. Based on what I think I saw of Beas and Smoke against Indy, they are both significantly limited by injury. Bills strong suit is the passing game but Allen cant do it all by himself and unless its firing on all cylinders against a well balanced #2 rated overall D, thats a huge problem IMO. Could wind up seeing some hero ball antics from Josh as he tries to compensate. On the positive side, I do expect a much better effort from the D than we saw last Saturday. They are better than that.

Beasley gutsy performance clearly not 100%
starrymessenger replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brown is also hurt and clearly not himself yet. McKenzie is injured and Diggs is prolly not 100% either. Davis is the only healthy starter amongst receivers. They can tough it out and play but they are not as effective as usually they are. Unless they can heal up and soon thats a problem. -
Zack Moss- injury updates- McDermott confirms Out
starrymessenger replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tough result for Moss and for the Bills, as he has been the best rb taking all positional responsibilities into account. Ive been especially impressed with his hands. Bills will look to upgrade the position next year IMO. -
I take the OPs points, with one exception. Our back 7 sucked in coverage. Either missed assignments or inadequate or faulty preparation. I can say that with some confidence because I know they can be a lot better than that. They will need to be. On offence it was apparent that Beas and Brown were far from their usual selves and not fully recovered from injury. Hopefully they can heal up to where we can see their best efforts next week. Allen was the best Bill on the field yesterday and the difference.
-
Bill’s scheme is to apply pressure with the front four down linemen. Not only is Colt’s line very good but they kept at least 5 guys in pass pro. Good luck with that. Plus Rivers is good against the blitz. Bills did not cover well at all. Lots of blown assignments. Either that or p-poor preparation. Not their finest hour by any means.
-
Good thing he was able to step up today. Neither Beas or Smoke was 100% today. Hope they get healthy for next week.

Williams is bigger than either DS or ZM, runs hard, looks to have good hands, sees the running lanes and, above all hits the hole fast. If he can block and his ball security is ok I would let him play for sure. I doubt Coach does it though. If not and with Moss out I would install DS as the lead/feature back. He is better when he gets more reps.

Nick Caserio to be new GM of Texans

Many failed to realize how good Allen was as a prospect/young player. The same mistake is being made w/respect to Herbert now IMO. They will figure it out. Maybe. Eventually. -

Just another example of how stupid so many of these folks continue to be.
