There were a few good posters over there but overall the level was always a notch below TSW. In fact, depending on what exactly you may be looking for in terms of tone/mood I always thought the smaller boards, the Range (now HCBBT) and the Zone were a lot more fun than the BBMB. Certain mods there made for a stifling experience. That T&C guy used to give me infractions just because another member would ask him to. Overall it was way too politically correct and in your face for my taste.

I don't think if Republican voters send RM to the Senate it will be to express their contempt for the institution. That would be the case if they saw him as manifestly unfit to serve as a senator, in the same way that a horse might be. No, if they send him there it will be for other reasons: to help consolidate conservative control of congress and, more generally, support all aspects of the conservative agenda as it impacts many behavioral norms and choices. That they may be willing to do this even if means being represented by a pedophile evidences the strength of their deeply held convictions, be they right or wrong. If they are right, it is surely a case of the end justifying the means i.e. a pedophile is better than an honourable Democrat (assuming that such a thing exists). If they are wrong, they are just a collection of backward people, hypocrites and/or moral embeciles. The classical reference is however instructive in another way IMO. There have been three Romes i.e. acknowledged preeminent global superpowers: the original of course, the British Empire (on which at its height the Sun never set) and the post WWII American Empire/Hegemony. As products of human endeavor empires are organic in nature and therefore susceptible to decay and destruction. Sometimes they rot from within, sometimes they are overtaken by competing and hostile forces, and sometimes both things happen at once. At least that is what happened to the Romans and the Brits. Why should America be different? When I look at Trump, an incompetent and clownish bafoon, I see a big step down from even his more modestly accomplished predecessors, let alone the Lincolns and the FDRs. Similarly, the Julian line produced not only Julius and Augustus but also Caligula, the guy who appointed his horse to the Roman senate, and the greatest Antonine, Marcus Aurelius, was succeeded by his son Commodus, who actually fancied himself a gladiator instead of a head of state. The historian Gibbon blames Christianity for the fall of Rome. I think that the real problem, as is so often the case, was the lack of a succession planning mechanism designed to ensure that the most qualified candidate (or at least a good one) got the top job. I'm sure that there were plenty of Romans hanging around who were more qualified than Heliogabulus. The question with respect to America is whether a carefully crafted Constitution and frequent plebiscites are sufficient safeguards against the election to the highest office of a patently unworthy person and against the damage that he or she might do. While the American system is clearly much better and more efficient than that of Imperial Rome or Ottoman Turkey, it looks to me that it is not foolproof either.

Gameday thread - Bills and Chiefs 2nd half
starrymessenger replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All you needed was another fg to salt it away. -
Yeah we're not getting either one. It helps to be really bad before you can be really good. Unfortunately we are always only mediocre, and therefore we tend to stay that way. Mediocrity is one of the levels of hell. Home sweet home.

I think Darnold has a higher ceiling but you might have to live with lots of turnovers for awhile at least. Rosen throws a lovely ball and is perfect if you are planning to run a WCO. He needs to add 15-20 lbs tho.

Go get Pat Shurmur somehow
starrymessenger replied to The juice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure he can too, except not with the zip you need to see. So no, actually he can't reliably make that throw. His arm strength is average at best. But he is extremely accurate and he is smart. And he was undrafted. -

Thanksgiving Football: What to Watch For
starrymessenger replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well the Bolts just destroyed the Boys. Dak looked like garbage behind a great line, WRs, a HoF TE, and an RB who has run for more than 1000 yards. Wonder how he would have looked behind Mills and Ducasse, with no # 1 WR (and no legit #2)? -

But can he throw the deep out? -
Certainly Peterman was not ready to start, and should not have started, on this team against that team. In retrospect it was a mistake. Trying to force a throw when you are better off taking the sack is very typical of a raw rookie. Doesn't mean he can't or will never learn. Only time will tell imo.

And the O is not a real issue? In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king.
-
How do you think he would have done if his first game had been last Sunday behind our O-line with our TEs and WRs? If Peterman had started with that Boys team instead I think he would have looked a lot better. He might even have looked very good. You know Fitz tore it up his first game action. Passed for more than 300 yrds if I remember correctly. But if Peterman had been successful behind a good line and with superior weapons we actually wouldn't be that much further ahead in evaluating him than we are now. That would in either case take more time. Some posters say the kid has already been ruined by his bad start. I think he probably has more character than that. Actually because it was so rough I think what happened Sunday will be an excellent learning experience. For sure he now has a better idea of just how big the gap can be between Syracuse and the NFL. I don't think it will kill him. I think it will help make him stronger. Will such experiences teach him to be strong enuf? Too early to say imo.

The same offensive (with the emphasis on "offensive") line that allowed a Jets team not good at getting after the QB (unlike the Bolts) to sack Tyrod, an acknowledged escape artist, how many times exactly? Care to remind me?
-
How did EJ and JaMarcus compare with Dak? Physically I mean.
-
No weapons in the passing game, no O-line, questionable playcalls, a D that will soon have you playing from behind, and I mean far behind, and an opposing D that can get after the passer. Pretty much set up to fail from the get go. We will see more of Peterman before the year is out, either in KC or after we are eliminated from the playoffs, which may be soon but in any case seems inevitable. Some think we have already seen enuf of Peterman. Maybe I'm a sucker for punishment but I need to see more before forming a view. I think Johnny U once threw 4 picks in a game. True. If you asked DiMarco somehow I don't think he'd say "well whadya expect. He threw a laser at my head" lol. Manos di pietras.

11-20: McDermott and Coordinator Pressers
starrymessenger replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I thought that was a very weird playcall. Not sure why they were in dime tho. Is that a normal defensive alignment in that situation?
