  1. Marv was lucky to have Bill Polian for a GM who drafted about 100 future hall of famers for him

I agree, to an extent. But a crappy coach with the same players wouldn't have been a perennial playoff team. I don't buy the - "anyone can win with those players" argument. Not with football (Levy, Switzer, Johnson) or baseball (Torre, Francona). Head Coaches still need to do decent job in order to win.

  2. NO: Dome Team

    MIN: Dome Team

    IND: Dome Team

    NYJ: Outdoor Stadium

It is easy to be a pass-happy team when you play at least half of your games inside.

That's a good point. I'm just confused, since all we read on this website for the past 2 years is how Edwards is Captain Checkdown, and we don't stretch the field. Now, there's a possibility that an OC could be hired who is known for throwing bombs, and everyone's pissed off about it. (not calling you out, Special K, just happened to quote your post)

I say bring it on. Add some excitement to this offense, for a change. Save the smashmouth for snowstorms. Other than that, air it out!

  3. tis. I would despise a Martz signing. I don't want a gimmick offense. I want smashmouth and defense and an offensive line that can hold a block enough to make a downfield throw

It was kind of successful in St. Louis. Warner had 400 yards every week and every game they played in went over.

  4. The only way a majority of Bills fans were going to be happy with the choice of Head Coach was with Bill Cowher. Even if the Bills hired Marty Schottenheimer, there still would have been complaints about Marty.

Realisticly, what respectable coach would want to come to Buffalo and be the coach for a 91 year old meddling owner? Ralph has almost the same bad reputation as Al Davis. We all know Ralph's biggest mistake was firing Bill Polian. Then he got shell-shocked after Tom Donahoe.

I don't think the choice of Chan Gailey is as horrible as Dick Jauron, Mike Mularkey or Gregg Williams. Obviously, Chan was on anyone's list of possible candidates, but he has had success as a coach/coordinator. Before the doom & gloomers rant and rave about this decision, let's wait and see who is brought in for coordinators, who we pick up via free agency & the draft. I'm willing to give Nix & Gailey a shot to see if they can turn this team around.

Perfectly stated. I'm getting killed on other threads for wanting to give Gailey a chance.

  5. Please. You probably wrote the exact same thing when Jauron got hired.

Please, what? And no, I didn't. I don't think I was on the board back then. But I did want to give Jauron a fair shot when he got hired. I don't see the problem with that. Too many "fans" are impossible to please. I'll save my "this was a terrible hire" posts if/when it's clear it was a terrible hire.

  6. Marv Levy's NFL head coaching experience prior to taking over the Bills (at 61 years of age) ...

    KC 1978 4 12 0 .250 5th in AFC West

    KC 1979 7 9 0 .438 5th in AFC West

    KC 1980 8 8 0 .500 3rd in AFC West

    KC 1981 9 7 0 .563 3rd in AFC West

    KC 1982 3 6 0 .333 4th in AFC West

I wonder what everyone was saying about Marv the day he was hired.

I wonder if all of these Bills fans had them dead in the water before he even coached one game.

He hasn't even assembled his staff, for God's sake.

  7. RW is a racist fool. Always hires the loser white HC and foregoes the superior african american candidate.

    Greggo=Mularkey=DJ=Gailey

    Marvin Lewis=Tomlin=Fewell=Frazier

    The Bills are a mess.

RW comes from an era of entrenched racism and he is a full on racist himself, clearly. Rosa Parks happened when RW was 50 already and used to getting his bus seat.

    Very sad for us, though.

Pretty hefty allegations ... and with no merit, whatsoever. According to your logic, every white American in their 80s or 90s is a racist. Brilliant. Please don't turn this into something it's not.

  8. If you're okay with this, then you must've been one of the people thrilled with the Jauron hire as well. This is a joke.

No, I wasn't thrilled with Jauron. And I'm not thrilled with this. But let's be realistic, here. This is a job that no truly legitimate candidate is going to take. People can debate a hundred reasons why ... but the fact is, it's a job no one wants. So I'm okay with this because we need A coach. Somebody. And the guy's NFL resume is better than Frazier, Harbaugh, B. Schottenheimer and Fewell. So yes, I'm okay with this. Buddy Nix got what he said he was going to get; an offensive minded coach with prior NFL head coaching experience. They play the games for a reason. Let's at least give it until mid-season next year to see what they look like.

  9. These clowns, Schefter, Mortensen, Clayton, Florio and Casserly are all falling over themselves to one up each other. We can bet soon that Adam Schefter is reporting that John Clayton knows what Mort had for lunch.

Good point. I liked it when it was just Mort and Clayton. Now it's just a race to get on the ticker saying "XXXX reports blah blah blah ..." Schefter is, by far, the worst of the bunch.

  10. What cracks me up is former Dallas GOD Jimmy Johson LOVED the fact they did it. He said he didn't care if it upset the other team he is there to win and send a message to the next team they are playing. LMAO

Johnson had a reputation for doing this while at "The U."

  11. Right up front here, I am not one of the multitude of (idiotic) Ralph bashers, but this sounds like a different verse to the same song. Levy hires Jauron (against Ralph's wishes) and now Nix is looking at (potentially) hiring another re-tread never was because he is enamored with Gailey's considerable football acumen. First Levy falls prey to the "smart" but bad track record guy, is Nix next??????? If true, grab your ankles... :wallbash:

How many times are you going to give the male/male rape analogy, anyway, XTC?

I've never been one to believe anything Schefter let fall out of his idiotic mouth. But if the Harbaugh story is true, and they made an offer to him before making an offer to Frazier, then why on earth wouldn't Frazier tell RW to go pack salt? Anyone in their right mind would.

And if they do hire Chan Gailey, let's just see who he brings in as OC and DC before we start all of the "we're doomed" threads.

Either way, we need someone in place to get the offseason rolling. A lot can happen.

  12. Frazier gets interviewed because of the Rooney rule. He is a qualified black coordinator so teams know he covers their

a_ _ regarding the interview process. You have to ask yourself; How many interviews for HC would he have had if he were white? Now he still may be a good candidate, frankly I don't know, but I call them like I see them and this makes perfect sense to me.

Just in time for MLK day. He'd be so proud. Personally, I hate the Rooney Rule and I think its fallen flat on its face. But Frazier hasn't gotten every HC interview just because of the rule. I'd say one or two may have been because of it, but not all of them. If he was white, he still would've gotten interviews.

  13. Terrell Davis is the reason Elway has rings. Marino was a wimp, I saw him dive out of the way many times after throwing a INT. As far as Kelly, where not the AFC Championship games playoffs?

I agree that a strong running game has a lot to do with Elway's success, but not Terrell Davis. That O-line was so good, they were successful with whoever was carrying the ball. Regardless, Elway's close to a top 5 guy. Kelly's not even in the top 10; probably the lower half of the top 20.

  14. Would've been pretty cool seeing JP throwing deep balls to Owens and Evans this past season to be honest with you. Probably would have won a couple of those stupid losses earlier in the year. Would have made the T.O. experiment a little interesting at least.

Yes, he was a terrible decision maker and had a "little"trouble in regards to the intermediate throws, but Edwards?? Fitz?? Brohm??? C'mon at least the guy had an arm and a will to fight...

I can't believe this turned into another JP thread, but what the hell.

He was successful against teams that were equivalent to Division II-A college teams. Guys like Manning, Brees and Rivers throw for 300 Yds against NFL teams. JP Losman sucked. He was terrible. And no ... it wasn't the O-Line's fault.

  15. Usually I try to be more supportive of the franchise. I do think Brandon and Nix are trying to build a winner, but I'm starting to realize just how low people's opinions are of Ralph Wilson Jr. I don't think there have been many stealth meetings since the Cowher one. Kind of hard to do that with playoff coaches. It's considered tampering. I'm just getting a little worried.

    PTR

I think your worry is warranted, and your realization is correct. I finally drew that conclusion earlier in the week, and I have to say, I'm a lot less stressed over the whole thing. Very anxious ... but I've already got myself convinced that we're going to end up with a "not so sexy" choice for head coach. But I also have myself convinced that whoever it ends up being might just be what the team needs. You never know.

  16. Seems like many people think a new Bills regime will need to draft/groom a new/starting qb in the off-season.

    Maybe so.

But, I think Fitzy is a game kid that still has decent upside.

With change coming, hope he remains in the mix.

I think the best upside to Fitz is that he's okay being a backup ... because that's all he is. I'd rather go (2-14) while grooming a possible future franchise guy, than go (8-8) with a career backup. If they can't sign McNabb or any other proven starter, just throw Brohm in so he can finally show everyone if he's for real or not. Fitzpatrick is a backup and nothing more.
