I believe by signing that deal, he just means he can be traded by the Skins since he is under contract now. The new team Campbell is dealt to can agree to a new contract. And $3.1 million for starting QB is peanuts anyway.
Gotcha, thanks. Getting him at $3.1 mil would be a steal for the year, and for a low round pick .. this is a no-brainer to me. Thanks again.

Forgive my naiveté ... but since Campell just signed a $3.1 mil tender with Washington, does that mean if he's traded to us that we'd be on the hook for that? And what is Trent's salary? Thanks!

You thought that was good and insightful? Man, I disagree.
Bits and pieces were good (the TVs in the locker room), but he was absolutely determined to blame every single thing on Jauron, whether it was reasonable or not, and to figure that if we just correct only one play in each game we lost, it would've been a win, forgetting all the games that we won by only one play, where if you correct one play we lose. Didn't make sense at all.
He thinks we're close to being a playoff team? One question, then, how many impact players are on this team? Lee Evans? Byrd? I'm scraping bottom here. Last year you could have counted Schobel, but he won't be playing the same position even if he comes back. Freddy Jackson is good, but he doesn't turn plays and games around by himself. The year before - he was playing injured last year - maybe Stroud, but again, he's switching position. Two guys ... any others? I don't see it. Guys who have two impact players, one of whom is a WR and can't get the ball enough to make a difference without a decent QB, and the other of whom is a safety ... and you think we're close? Seriously?
And then he said we were close with no real examination of personnel needs whatsover. Lousy article, I thought. A guy with an opiinion ignoring all evidence that disagreed and desperate to shoehorn even things that just didn't fit his worldview into his argument.
How far? Three years. Two if they do an absolutely sensational job of drafting the next two years, making every single pick count. And humans not being perfect, how likely is that?
I agree with you about the article. I've never put any stock into that source, personally. I do think with a different coaching staff (even the Wade Phillips coaching staff) Buffalo would've made the playoffs at least 5 of the last 10 years. I think psyche and mentality are underrated. The Bills have become a team that doesn't know how to win. How to seal the deal. They need confidence and arrogance (which is why I like Rex Ryan, and why the Jets were so successful last year). I don't think they're that many players from being a playoff contender - which is different than a Super Bowl favorite. I think, with good coaching and a draft that gives us a couple immediate starters, the team could be playoff ready next year.

He got it right. You miscounted the negatives.
Just like when O.J. looked Judge Ito in the eye and said - "I didn't kill nobody." ... yup. Very true.

I think Roger Goodell has set a precedent, with Pacman, and others, who were accused, but never convicted of crimes. I am not sure if Roethlisbergers motorcycle accident a few years ago should be counted as a strike, but, if the NFL does not suspend Roethlisberger, the cries of racism are going to be loud...and maybe warranted. Amani Toomer and Chad Ochocino have already chosen to go there... one of the reasons the NFL justifies the suspension of players accused, though not necessarily convicted, is that their behavior has cast a negative light on the NFL. Now, I bet a lot more Americans know who Ben Roethlisberger, as opposed to Adam "Pacman" Jones...
Agree 100%. The guy is acting like he's on perpetual spring break and like he's 19-years-old. It's a business and he's a professional. If he doesn't respect that, he should be suspended.

Getting mad or pissy at the Jets for getting better is like getting mad or pissy at the guy at work who's been there ten years longer than you getting the raise and promotion.
The JEts are a good coupla years further along in their rebuilding than the Bills are. There is veritually NO comparison between the two team's respective situations.
While I hate Ryan and have to endure Jets fans all around me, I frankly wish them well. Fewer teams in sports has as lousy a history as the Jets have. They have that one game, albiet a big big one, and fourty years of crap. If they have a great team to root for now, good for them.
I think this is well said. I actually like Rex Ryan, and think any team benefits from that attitude and arrogance in a head coach. Times have changed. The Landrys, Levys and Shulas of the world are yesterday's news. The Jets have built an amazing defense, and now they're putting pieces into place to complement it with a more potent offense. How nice would it be to have LaDanian Tomlinson as a situational back??? They've done it right, and they are a legitimate contender now. Good for them. Let's just hope the Bills can get out of the 90's mentality and into the now. Then hopefully in a few years, we'll be able to make moves like this. Getting mad and pissy at the Jets is nothing but jealousy.

Well, we've got one team in the division licked. This team foolishly signed Santonio Holmes, Cromartie and Tomlinson after getting to the AFC Championship game. Don't they realize that the way to improve is to sit on your hands, sign an offensive lineman who is a penalty magnet that even Oakland didn't want, get rid of one of the few actual starting offensive lineman you had, sign a guy who flunked two physicals and hope you do well in the draft? I think we've got the division sewed up since Belichik and Parcells haven't really bought into the existing Bills philosophy! Super Bowl here we come!!!..
This post is a thing of beauty.

Chan Gailey called George wilson a backup in one of his interviews. I don't think Whitner is going anywhere. Whitner's problem is that he is moved around to much. He hasn't been in the same position two years in a row. He has played CB, SS, and FS pending on injuries. It isn't good for his career.
Mckelvin, Byrd, Whitner, Mcgee is a #1 pass defense if you ask me.
The #1 pass defense in NY state.

Jared Gaither-T- Ravens Apr. 11 - 1:08 pm et
Restricted free agent LT Jared Gaither has a "half-baked work ethic," according to Ken Murray of the Baltimore Sun.
Perhaps this explains why the Ravens are rumored to be willing to trade Gaither. It's pretty clear Baltimore is not planning on giving Gaither the long-term deal that he wants right now.
Source: Baltimore Sun
From the Baltimore Sun article;
The Ravens should have takers for Gaither, if, in fact, they have had enough of his half-baked work ethic. Gaither would have a better starting point than raw rookies coming into the NFL, but those top rookies probably have a better long-term projection.
I don't know if I'd spend a second on him.
Kind of what we thought of Willis before he went to Baltimore, eh? Who cares what the Baltimore Sun says? The fact that he's not on the Bills already is pissing me off. I respect how diligently Nix and Co. are approaching the upcoming draft. But they're only getting one or two guys that might start; so how about addressing some needs via trade(s)? We're the only team in the AFC East that hasn't made some sort of moves. So far .. it's been all talk. Talk's cheap.

I wonder where Andre Reed was projected to go, coming out of Kutztown State way back when. Obviously not comparing this kid to the (should be) HOF WR, but he's durable, got great hands and comes from a small school. I'd love to see the Bills take a chance on him.

I am by no means a Colin Cowherd fan, but he brought up a good point in recent days - how seven out of eight NFL divisions were won by the team with the best QB (and often the order of how teams finished in each division replicated the order of their quality QBs). Surely the AFC East followed the order of: Brady, Sanchez, Henne, and Edwards/Fitzpatrick.
That said, I think Buffalo needs to move up and get their QB. Bradford will be gone ... Clausen may be available, but I think we may have to trade up to get him. He is surely cocky and arrogant. But he has a big time arm and has the mind of a QB that has experience in the pro-style offense. Yes, he is originally a CA quarterback, but he played in the midwest.
That is my two cents.
Cowherd is pointing out the blatantly obvious, as usual. Claussen will be available at 9. If Nix likes him, he'll take him. It's as easy as that. I personally don't care if he's the biggest jerk on the planet ... as long as he can make a quick decision and get rid of the ball to the right person (preferably down the field).
And how come Red Sox fans never say "Red Sox are the best," or "Red Sox Rule," but only say how the Yankees (the ones that won the W.S. last year, and 26 times before that) suck? And I'm a Mets fan, just so you know. The Yankees don't suck. And neither do the Red Sox. So be happy, man! GO BILLS!
-
That was after Bradford went down. Anyway, so what he can throw a ball through a wall, if he is a prick and can't lead his team, he is worthless.
So you wouldn't say that Marino and Kelly were pricks? Two HUGE pricks; two HOF'ers. Nice guys (Trent) finish last.

I guess it kinda depends, key word being credibility. Seems like most players take to ex players that are coaches and might respond better to a vet player than a coach who never made in the NFL. I'm not saying I agree, just might explain the difference.
Flutie was an awesome mentor.

The whole premise of his argument is Jason Campbell's "record." Newsflash: he ain't a starting pitcher. Football is a team game. God I hate the QB win-loss record stat ...
Agree 100%. I'd like to see Campbell's stats on downfield attempts vs. checkdowns, or how many different receivers he throws to in a normal game. Of course, those stats could be misleading, too (see any QB who's had Randy Moss to throw to), but they'd be more valuable than a simple W-L record.

Fact, not crusade and FACTS back up my position on the subject.
FACT: Bears eat beets.

A dead possum is better than Edwards
I have to disagree. Maybe a opossum who has been hit by a car, and lost 3 of 4 legs, might be better than Edwards. But no way is a dead opossum better.

Good article on why the Bills should not try and trade for Jason Campbell.
After reading that, I actually feel like they should go after him more than I did before.

Exactly. If the price is right, why not? And Clausen may turn into a good player, but this draft's best qualities are OTs and DTs. I want some of them.
I'm with you 100%. Can't people see that this is the head coach debacle all over again? We're not a "Cowher" team. We ARE a "Gailey" team. And we're not a "McNabb" team. I think we're better than any of "The 3" can offer, but we're honestly not worthy of much more than Campbell. He'd be an upgrade and his level of talent is the best we're going to get. Kind of like bringing in Gailey.
-
If you mean that a good GM would have held McNabb's family hostage until he signed with the Bills, then I would agree, because that's about the only way you could have gotten him. Face it. Building though the draft is our only option.
PTR
I'm with you on this one, PTR. Nix tried. Made the offer(s) that he could. What else could he do? Nothing. Instead of blaming Nix for not doing enough, or hating McNabb for not wanting to come here, I'm just recognizing what the Bills are. They're a team that no top notch free agents, trading block players or coaches want to play for. To compare us to the Raiders is an accurate comparison. So don't hate the long list of coaches who chose unemployment over Buffalo. Don't hate the players who don't want to play here. Just hope that the current regime will have a good draft and move in the direction of respectability. "If you build it, they will come" doesn't only pertain to a baseball field. GO BILLS!!!!

I am much happier to think that Chuck Norris was a donor than say Richard Simmons.
I think Jeff Garcia's mom went to that one.

I would rather have him say that and have a positive outlook, then be Willis McGahee and bash the city. At least you know where his allegiance lies... by the way, it was Bull Durham.
Correcting now

"I think first and foremost I needed to stay healthy. I think I took some hits I probably should have tried to avoid. There were some games that didn’t go the way we needed to. The ball didn’t bounce our way. There were plays left out on the field. It’s tough. Football’s a team sport. Obviously the quarterback’s the one they’re going to look at to put the blame on. Obviously I was that person that took a lot of the blame last year and rightfully so. I can definitely take that. Looking back on it injuries were something I needed to change and hopefully I can physically maintain myself next year."
Yup.. Injuries were all he needed to change last year.....
Reminds me of the scene in "Bull Durham" when Tim Robbins blurted out every baseball cliche known to man. If Trent Edwards had any balls, he'd just come out and say something like, "I've sucked since I got here, and if I can't be any better than that, then I don't blame the Bills for going in another direction."

If New England offered a 2nd for Lynch?

Not a great chance that we'd beat NE with or without Lynch. If they came offering a 2nd round pick .. do it.
