I'm really trying to be a "kinder, gentler" eball when responding to posts like this, but you make it difficult. You believe you're capable of determining TJ Graham is a liability and "relic" after one season? Really? Would you care to research the databank of NFL history suggesting that's one of the most ridiculous statements ever made?

    Exactly.

  2. All joking aside. I saw Tebow interviewed yesterday. He was asked of he would play any TE. He responded that he would do what ever was asked of him. That makes me nervous. Belichick could find a way to use him.

It would make me nervous if he was anything but a ****ty QB. Fact is, he's just a ****ty QB and has never played another position ... Which, in essence, just makes him a ****ty football player.

  3. Say what you will about Ralph Wilson Stadium (or prior to; Rich) but we have not succumbed to the dot com/name-brand-here fad......yet. or maybe we did originally? Where did the Rich in Rich stadium come from?

That fad makes a lot of money. Not sure if not "succumbing" to it makes the Bills a smart organization.

Even Jerry Jones didn't name a stadium after himself.

  4. Noone will give you dick based on what you say you can do. As Jauronimo pointed out, that speaks to a prior lack of effort and unwillingness, and leads to the question, "Well, why haven't you?" Raises are always based on prior, quanifiable performance.

Promotions, on the other hand, can utilize a very detailed business model outlining what you'll do in your new role if given the opportunity. Still though, those usually depend largely on top end performance in you rcurent and prior positions.

Perhaps I was thinking more of promotions, which, in my experience, have always been about presenting a plan of action/vision in addition to letting past results speak for themselves. In my working environment, as stated earlier, raises are pretty much rubber-stamped. I've been on both ends of getting and giving promotions and I can say with certainty that the vision has always been the most important part.

But for a raise, I have to agree that it's about past performance, for the most part.

  5. That sounds nice but it doesn't make any sense in application. If you tell them what you WILL do, then they're going to ask you why you aren't already doing it, and then tell you they'll consider giving you a raise after you've done it. Anybody can talk about what they WILL do. I'll increase revenues 5 fold and slash expenses in half, and all you have to do is give me a 20% raise today!

Anyone seeking a raise needs to make their case for why their current responsibilities go above and beyond the job description. How they've added value which supports a raise. Basically, you need to prove that you're performing at 10 and being paid at 6.

If you prove what you CAN do and HAVE done, you can then ask for a raise based on those things along with what you plan to do with the skills and results you've already shown.

Anyone can talk about what they will do ... but if one has proven that he is capable (i.e. - walked the walk), I think they will take his vision much more seriously and also realize the value he brings.

  6. I think Boyst's advice of telling them what you WILL do, rather than only what you HAVE done is important. To BillsFanNC's point, I'm in the same boat. We get between 2-4% across the board. I'm happy with 3% (better than a sharp stick in the eye) so I keep my mouth shut. Years ago, I challenged a lower raise and won. But that was more out of principle. The extra 1% I got out of them wasn't getting me a camp on the lake, that's for sure.

Good luck. I hope it goes well.

  7. Leaving him up encourages discussion and debate and allows the situation to be used as a cautionary tale. Like it or not his was found not guilty of the worst charges brought against him. If we are bringing off-field issues into play for Wall eligibility Bruce Smith is a convicted felon (DUI x3) and a confirmed drug user. Thurman Thomas is an admitted alcoholic with drug possession charges post retirement, Cornelius Bennett is a registered sex offender in the State of Florida and while he's not on the Wall he probably will be. That's as much thought/research as I feel like putting into it

I'm not equating the situations I'm suggesting that football honors remain football honors, particularly if the issues in question happened after the player retired. These guys stop playing with 30+ years left in their lives. Stupid things they do after that doesn't change the history they created when they were younger. OJ being convicted of robbery 25+ years after he played his last down as a Bill doesn't make his accomplishments as a RB less noteworthy. And, like it or not, the process found him not guilty of the other situation.

I could make a list of other players on other walls who have been in jail for significant periods of time or on multiple occasions but I doubt it would change your mind.

He was found liable for the deaths of two people. It makes his entire life less noteworthy.
