  1. Thanks Gugny, went to Tailgate Central, nothing much there right now for Raven's game. Want to be where the action is, and as close to the stadium as possible. Met Pinto Kenny in Charlotte and Baltimore, would like to get there or Hammer's if possible. A displaced NYer from Rochester now living in Virginia, trying to show some southern boys how it is done in the north.

mrags is a TBD guy and is going to the game. PMing him would not be a bad idea. Mead107 is also going, I believe. Have fun.

  2. I know you've kick drummed him to the curb but did you ever try having him count off before the song started.

He does count off. But when it's a gig, you can't stop him, correct him, then have him count off again. We did that enough in practice. So I would quickly, before his count-off, quietly snap my fingers with the correct tempo so he'd get it.

That's where the ignorance came in. It's not so much that he can't play the correct tempo; it's more that he refuses to. That explains why it only happens with a handful of songs. He digs his heels in and won't play the tempo I ask him to play.

    He's just a dick.

Last night was not supposed to be the night he got booted. We just wanted to talk to him about our concerns. Level with him.

He got all sorts of belligerent, rude ... downright mean.

I got up and went upstairs because I was close to just tell him to get the !@#$ out. I didn't want that to happen.

After 20 minutes of cooling down, I went back down and he was still at it. Finally I just said, "it's not gonna work. it's over. sorry."

  3. I just have a hard time picturing a drummer that can't keep time. I'm a human metronome for my wife when she plays violin.

BTW I hit my drum real hard too. I've been known to break cymbals.

It's not that he can't keep time. He just can't remember the correct tempo of the songs. He's consistent once the song starts.

  4. It's partially correct. However I was never a dick. The rest of the band treated me as :worthy: due to my flawless timing and beat.

The new guy hits the drums nice and hard. I think the guy we fired is a more technically sound drummer, but as I said in earlier posts, he plays too many songs at the incorrect tempo.

During the gig last weekend, I had to correct his speed on at least 5 or 6 songs.

Then his throne fell apart at the end of a song. He sits there and tries to put it back together, which was understandable. Well after a minute, it was clear the thing was not going to be repaired quickly. We had a couple more songs to finish the set.

This bar is VERY rigid as far as the times of the sets are concerned. I've never been part of that before (but I've been out of the game for 8 years or so). So the bouncer hands the drummer a milk crate.

The drummer proceeds to try to balance the seat part of the throne (now detached) on the top of the milk crate.

It looked like an SNL skit. So I said, "Mike, just sit on the crate." The guitarist said, "Mike, just sit on the crate." Falls on deaf ears.

The bouncer comes to the stage and said, "sit on the !@#$ing crate and play."

    What a mess.

  5. I was bringing name tags for a few years, but when they stopped the "check in" procedure with Cindy, I got lazy. I will DEFINITELY bring them in the future so as not to burden Mead and Helen with so much to do. I get then for free.

I would be more than happy to assist (handing them out, etc.).

  6. yiu should be counting down the days till Sunday and just bring your butt over.

Man, I wish I could. It's a 5+ hour drive for me. Seeing some of the tix on sale are tempting. I bragged about your pulled pork (this thread will now take a turn) to my wife and she's ready to go next year!

  7. Hammer's is more than just a parking lot...It's a tradition. Hammer (Eric) and his crew work their butts off to make sure everything is as smooth as possible. No matter where you are, you can always find one of the crew if you need help. As a female, I truly appreciate the green grass instead of blacktop, the "ladies" porta potties and the hand cleaner.

    Well said, Aussiew.

I'm literally counting down the days till next year.

  8. Just saw this.

I am a Mets fan - but grew up in a Yankees household.

For this reason, I have always had a love for both teams. The Mets are "my team," but I root for the Yankees unless they're playing each other.

Bobby Valentine has always been my favorite Mets manager. Hands down. Yep ... loved him even more than Davey Johnson (not much more, though).

I will second the O.P.'s emotion on this one. Total dickhead move to say what he said. It's dickish to say it on ANY day. But to say it on September 11th shows a lack of class I'd never have thought I'd see out of Valentine.

I don't believe Valentine is one who says anything without thought. This troubles me even more.

Not that it matters to him, but I lost a ton of respect for him today.

  9. I would add that women look way worst after their forties than they used too. Yeah, yeah...so do men....

Not sure how old you are, but I'm guessing you're not in your 40s. The only reason I say that is that nearly every person my age (42), who I knew when I was younger, looks better today than they did 15-20 years ago.

Hell, I just looked at a picture of my wife and me from 1998 and BOTH of us look A LOT better today than we did then. Hands down. And she'll be 46 in November.

  10. what is the saying about coincidences?

being found innocent in court doesn't exactly prove innocence. mistakes have been made. guilty go free, innocent go to jail.

    ex #1 see OJ trial.

Christ, I can't believe I'm in PPP. But, what the hell.

I will see your OJ trial, and show you a trial in which the evidence proving his guilt was overwhelming and the prosecutors fuct it all up. They left the jury with no choice; they had to find him not guilty.

I will then remind you that the evidence in the Zimmerman trial showed that GZ wasn't the one looking for the fight and that he defended himself after the person looking for the fight finally found it.

In the OJ trial, the prosecutors made the mistakes in their presentation of the evidence.

In the Zimmerman case, the mistake was letting it even go to trial. The guilty party was dead.

That said ... I will concede that I believe GZ is a first-class scumbag. I personally believe he is a racist. I personally believe that he probably kind of wanted to beat the crap out of this kid. But I also personally believe that he didn't pursue the fight; and that he was not guilty of murder.

If every racist, scumbag, jerk was a murderer, our population would be cut in half within a week.

I agree that OJ was found not guilty while being as guilty as hell.

But GZ was found not guilty because he was innocent.

  11. You make good points.

But I personally don't care about his reputation or his character. This is a football game. If he helps me win it, I'm ok with him ruining his character. It's not mine after all.

Suh won't be helping the Lions win when he's not allowed to even practice, let alone play, with them.

I'm fine with the "badass" reputation and I don't mind a player with a chip on his shoulder. But when said player's conduct is detrimental to the entire team, that's simply not worth it to me.
