Lets focus and put this thread back on track
Good call (getting it back to Jimi). And great tune.

This is taking a turn I'm not willing to make. Let's agree to disagree, FireChan, on our feelings for Tim Tebow.
I will say this ... it used to piss me off that Kurt Warner would begin every postgame interview by giving praise to the almighty Jesus his lord and savior blah, blah, blah, puke, ****, !@#$, crap.
There is a time and a place for pushing religion. It's usually in a church where people want it and expect it. It's not on a camera that is there because of a football game.
One more thing. Tebow's affiliation with an anti-gay and anti-Semitic church in Texas kind of backs up my assertion that he's a huge fake. When I say "kind of" I mean it does.

Kinda bow-legged.
Yes.

I do not agree with this at all SRV had his own style.
I'm the biggest SRV fan I know. He is #2 on my "best ever" list. I agree he had his own style and his own sound. I didn't mean to imply otherwise, believe me. But saying SRV played a lot like Hendrix is 100% accurate.
Since a nerve has been touched:
Jimi: "with the power of soul, anything is possible "
Mayer: "we're waiting on the world to change."
That is some of the weakest **** ever put to tape. I'm talking real "attention wal mart shoppers" ****.
If John Mayer did not exist, Guitar Center would have invented him. Jimi OTOH was a master and an original.
Agree that most of his music is terrible and acknowledged that it's bubblegum... But watch this entire video. He doesn't suck.

Quick question, Gug. Is he always praying on camera? When he's on the sidelines of big Gators games, is he praying? When the camera cuts to him when the defense is on the field, or when he's holding the clipboard, or when Sanchise throws another pick-six, is he praying? He's not.
You say you're religious. If every game, you made a habit of praying for all the player's safety before the game, would you stop because the media focuses on it? Would you be ashamed for everyone to see it? Would you be afraid people would hate you for it? That's pretty un-Christian like.
Keep in mind, Tebow comes from an Evangelical faith. Which, if I understand correctly, heavily emphasizes on preaching to the masses and trying to convert others. That's his faith. He's not gonna stop because the cameras are on him.
I said I'm Christian. I am a far cry from a religious person, however.
Preaching to the masses and trying to convert others is about the most dickish thing any human being can do, in my opinion.
It further exemplifies how selfish Tebow is. It's all about what is good for him and for his cult.
If I wanted to pray for players' safety, I'd do it privately. Not for fear or shame ... but for respect. Respect for others' beliefs.
Those who force feed their beliefs down others' throats are not good people.
Tebow is not a good person. His cult is full of people just like him. Fake and bad.

Wow. That's bad. I still think Eagles fans are the worst in all of sports; followed by Red Sox fans. I've never heard a story like this one, though!!!
-
Speculating what he may have been, or the kind of music he may have played, it kind of pointless, but I'll play.
I think he would have collaborated with lots of people. Kind of like when Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler worked together; or BB King and Eric Clapton.
I do not think he'd have gone down the Santana road with the radio-friendly stuff.
I do agree that blues would have been his main genre. Stevie Ray Vaughan made quite a nice living playing the blues - and playing a hell of a lot like Jimi Hendrix.
On the flip side ... John Mayer is another Hendrix-influenced guitar player and he has ridiculous skills. But he chose to make bubblegum crap music and make a ton of money; only to rip a few nice solos during live shows. I just don't see Hendrix doing that. (On a side note, I am hoping that this stage of Mayer's career is temporary and that he has many years of blues albums in his future. The guy can flat out play)
I think he would have simply solidified himself as the best guitar player to grace our planet if he'd lived this long.

Byrd isn't doing anything that any other player in his situation would be doing.
Does it suck? - Yes.
Is he putting the team first? - No.
Is the team putting him first? - Nope.
That's the nature of the business.
When people say "he needs to be out there," I have to respectfully disagree. He doesn't need to be out there. Gilmore's return is WAY more effective than Byrd's.
We'll be just fine without Byrd.
And every week our DBs continue to play well while he "reaches 100%," it will be illustrated exactly why you don't overpay a safety.
I have no issue with what Byrd's doing. But I won't shed any tears when he cleans out his locker on his way to the team stupid enough to pay him top dollar.

It's kind of like winning $10 if you come in dead last in the office pool. Even being the absolute worst at what you do gets you something.
Show me one time he's talked down to someone about his religion. Even once.
Pro tip: You can't. Anti-Tebowers (the guys that don't like him personally, not his QB critics) come up with the narrative that he's a media whore who uses his religion to make money or something, he doesn't. He didn't get paid in college and he acted the exact same.
I don't know if it's the atheist crowd that dislikes him or what. I think he's a good kid who the media harps on until everyone hates him.
Christian, here.
This guy is about as genuine as a Gucci watch being sold by a NYC street vendor. He is a media whore. He is an attention whore. All of his goals are individual goals; not team goals. He "prays" when he knows the camera is on him. And before you come back with the, "well the camera was always on him," story, consider this: it's possible to pray without anyone knowing you're praying. If he really wanted it to be between him and God, he'd do that.
Attention whore. 100%. And I, personally, am ecstatic that every team in the NFL caught on to his crap.

Great post, Pooj.
The greatest guitar player ever, in my opinion.
To put his accomplishments into perspective a bit ... he died three years after his first studio album was released. Three years ... and he continues to influence the best living guitar players today.
RIP, Jimi.

Uh, guh??

Holy brain fart. Editing now. Thanks.

This is where it's proven that hiring Pettine was THE most important, and the best, off-season move.
Although EJ hasn't done anything to make the Jets feel like they need to respect the deep ball, he also hasn't done anything to show that he's incapable.
The Bills' offense is far from one-dimensional. We're going in with a healthy O.
I'd love to see EJ go downfield ... but only if it's the right decision at the right time. What I'd like to see more is to have Chandler in better positions to catch balls for first downs. To me, that's on Hackett.
Jets D has shut down the run; Bills D has not - albeit only through two games.
An early lead will be key. Make the Jets one dimensional. Make their offense more predictable. Make Eugene have throw the ball (third and longs, playing from behind, etc.), and it will be a banner day for the Bills' D.
Mario should be playing with a chip on his shoulder. We lost the week 1 Jets game last year because our defense sucked (I don't want this to turn into a whose fault was it thread; I'm simply showing that there should be some pent up anger from last year's loss against NYJ. I know Fitz sucked in week 1, as well).
Pressure Eugene like they pressured Cam and this will be an easy win.
Go BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
EDIT: Fixed a boneheaded error (thanks, Big Cat)

At a quick glance this looked like, "Chef Jim strips at parking lot tailgating parties."
And I thought he was just a chef and a drummer.

Is BB King overrated?
-
Jimmi, how you doin? Nice of you to stop by. Hey, thanks for hooking me up with your sister. You weren't kidding, she knows how to have a good time!
Hot damn!

That is all
Thread of the week, hands down, and it's only Tuesday.

Give credit to Carolina's special team for knowing the rules. These situations are why you need a guy who can get it through the back of the end zone.
I heard Stevie was on the field playing as a DB for that last play. I wonder if that is because we don't have enough DB's due to all the injuries or just because Stevie is good at tracking and high-pointing balls in the air.
I thought it was common to bring WRs in to defend the Hail Mary. I could be mistaken. Having Fitz for so many years, a Hail Mary for him was a screen pass to CJ.
-
Seems harsh.
I think it was Miss Florida who juggled batons the other night. I'd go for that juggler.
-
Should have been an onside kick to go for the jugular.
-
I think we could have gotten to the line and spiked it for one last play.
Agreed. One of the benefits of running the no huddle throughout the game. Getting to the line quickly is old hat.
-
Doubt it will work, other than a few big runs that have boosted the average, Bills have been VERY solid against the run, generally limiting them to 3 yards or less...
Remember how much trouble the Panthers were going to give us running the ball? Yeah not so much...we can run the ball on the Jets, Spiller torched them for 169 yards in New Jersey last year
Being 30th was a huge surprise to me. The stats are ugly. Average yards/game is 98.52. Buffalo is averaging 141.5 through two games. Deceiving, for sure. I would have guessed far less. I guess situational stops are what's most important.
-
This is an odd line. Lots of variables at play -- two rookie QBs, the NYC bias. Feels like a sucker line, but I don't know who the sucker is. Lots of national media were (for some unknown reason) complimenting Geno's play last Thursday night.
Bills' D held Pats* and Panthers to 23 pts each, and of those 46 pts 20 were short fields after TOs. The other 26 pts were two TD drives by Carolina (one drive extended on a 4th down penalty) and four FG drives.
Does anybody see Geno leading long TD drives against this defense? This is all about EJ limiting turnovers and the Bills continuing to improve (i.e., play smarter on the penalty front).
I expect a low scoring game, and I don't see the Jets scoring more than 10 unless the Bills are giving them short fields.
I suppose if leading your team's implosion by throwing 3 INTs to put the game on ice for the other team is a good thing, then Eugene kicked some serious ass.
National media is ridiculous. They still think Bob Griffin is good, too.
The longer the Bills and EJ Manuel fly under the radar, the better off they'll be.

Just curious here....Can you actually drink the coffee as soon as it's ready (assuming you're not adding any cold creamer; obviously, that would cool it down a bit), or do you have to wait a little for it to cool down?
I have to let it cool. I hit the button, then take the dog for a walk. By the time I get back (about 10-15 minutes) it's perfect. I don't like my coffee piping hot. But I like to brew it hot, then naturally cool.
That might be weird, but it's how I roll.
If I'm in a hurry, I just drop an ice cube in it. I also drink my coffee black.

Jimi Hendrix died 43 years ago today

This is always what I've hoped would have happened.
It just amazes me that this 27-year-old has been gone for 43 years and still remains relevant.
You can't say that about Eddie Van Halen, and he's still alive. And in the late 70s/early 80s, eight out of 10 people would have said EVH was the best ever.
I think it's just another way to remember someone, as well as recognize when they left us. Jimi Hendrix's death date has always stuck with me; as has John Bonham's (a week from today). None more than John Lennon for me, personally, though.
I remember the day my grandmother died, yet I have no idea when her birthday was. Not sure what that means, other than dates of death of those near and dear to people tend to mean something.
