  1. Give credit to Carolina's special team for knowing the rules. These situations are why you need a guy who can get it through the back of the end zone.

I heard Stevie was on the field playing as a DB for that last play. I wonder if that is because we don't have enough DB's due to all the injuries or just because Stevie is good at tracking and high-pointing balls in the air.

I thought it was common to bring WRs in to defend the Hail Mary. I could be mistaken. Having Fitz for so many years, a Hail Mary for him was a screen pass to CJ.

  2. Doubt it will work, other than a few big runs that have boosted the average, Bills have been VERY solid against the run, generally limiting them to 3 yards or less...

Remember how much trouble the Panthers were going to give us running the ball? Yeah not so much...we can run the ball on the Jets, Spiller torched them for 169 yards in New Jersey last year

Being 30th was a huge surprise to me. The stats are ugly. Average yards/game is 98.52. Buffalo is averaging 141.5 through two games. Deceiving, for sure. I would have guessed far less. I guess situational stops are what's most important.

  3. This is an odd line. Lots of variables at play -- two rookie QBs, the NYC bias. Feels like a sucker line, but I don't know who the sucker is. Lots of national media were (for some unknown reason) complimenting Geno's play last Thursday night.

Bills' D held Pats* and Panthers to 23 pts each, and of those 46 pts 20 were short fields after TOs. The other 26 pts were two TD drives by Carolina (one drive extended on a 4th down penalty) and four FG drives.

Does anybody see Geno leading long TD drives against this defense? This is all about EJ limiting turnovers and the Bills continuing to improve (i.e., play smarter on the penalty front).

I expect a low scoring game, and I don't see the Jets scoring more than 10 unless the Bills are giving them short fields.

I suppose if leading your team's implosion by throwing 3 INTs to put the game on ice for the other team is a good thing, then Eugene kicked some serious ass.

National media is ridiculous. They still think Bob Griffin is good, too.

The longer the Bills and EJ Manuel fly under the radar, the better off they'll be.

  4. Just curious here....Can you actually drink the coffee as soon as it's ready (assuming you're not adding any cold creamer; obviously, that would cool it down a bit), or do you have to wait a little for it to cool down?

I have to let it cool. I hit the button, then take the dog for a walk. By the time I get back (about 10-15 minutes) it's perfect. I don't like my coffee piping hot. But I like to brew it hot, then naturally cool.

That might be weird, but it's how I roll.

If I'm in a hurry, I just drop an ice cube in it. I also drink my coffee black.

  5. Yes it can.

    But not to this extent.

QB's who are throwing 10+ yards downfield regularly won't have as much yards after the catch.

Here's some passes in the air stats. Yes, EJ is in the bottom of the pile, here. However ... he's in good company and is less than a yard from being in the top half.

And if you filter on YAC %, you'll see that he's 16th.. Right in the middle.

    Sometimes.

But I think often its the safety valve for the play. The last read. If the preferred routes are covered, you have to throw the ball somewhere.

At least thats what I've always been taught.

Given the fact that yesterday was the second game of his NFL career, I think the checkdowns were understandable. Don't you?

  7. Look up the yards after catch.

    You'll learn something.

Can this be said for most QBs' passing stats on most Sundays, though?

As far as his checkdowns to Chandler, I agree with Beerball. Chandler is running the route of the play called. The problem isn't EJ throwing to a stationary target. The problem is that said stationary target isn't at or near the first down marker. That's not EJ's fault; nor is it Chandler's. They should be calling those plays on 3rd and 2; not 3rd and long.

  8. I think the Pats sacked Geno 3 or 4 times. I remember him getting thrown around by Chandler Jones a few times. We need to pressure him early and often and he may just revert to his forced throw ways. He does have a great arm so we will need to give him less time in the pocket. But as JBoyst said above, he stares down his targets quite a bit. We may see some INT's

He's simply not good enough to overcome heavy pressure. If EJ can sustain some drives, allowing our D to remain fresh, I look forward to Eugene getting intimately acquainted with Mario and Kyle.
