  1. Not sure who yo're talking about, but most players selected in the fifth round are not expected to be immediate starters. That was my point. If he can contribute on special teams and work his way into the running back rotation at all, then this was a good pick.
  2. You try and pick immediate starters in the fifth round? Good luck with that. This guy can contribute on special teams right away and looks to be a good situational back. That seems like pretty good value in the fifth round to me.
  3. I watch Bills games on Canadian TV in Newfoundland. They pick up the CBS feed, so I imagine that CTV pays CBS for the rights and the league does not get any additional money from what CBS is paying them. Just a guess though.
  4. That's what I always love about this board. It's such an optimistic place. Maybe not rediculous, but totally blueliculous. Bwah ha ha.
  5. That was the only thing in this whole post that made any sense. Of course they do. They spend countless hours on the ground scouting these players and watching film. And oh, by the way, most of them have devoted their entire lives to football. They are not just casual observers. So let me get this straight. In order to play football in Buffalo, you have to have grown up in a northern state? Absolutely ridiculous. I used to teach cold weather indoctrination classes in the Army in Alaska and some of my best soldiers hailed from places like Alabama and Mississippi. We actually lived outside in Alaska, we weren't just playing a game inside a stadium. Your reasoning makes absolutely no sense.
  6. Yeah, what those two guys said. Good to see a well thought out post without the doomsday attitude that permeates this board. First, thanks for your service. I served twenty three years myself. I agree that people have a right to express their opinion. I think what this poster meant was that all of the negativity gets a bit old sometimes. Not that people don't have the right to post their opinion, just that some of the opinions tend to be overly negative and lacking in thought.
  7. All of the reports that I have read from the re-check indicate that the knee is healing as it should and will be fine. I have read no information about the possible need for micro-fracture surgery. I have only heard that from the talking heads, but the actual reports that I have read say nothing about it. Again they indicate that the knee is healing as it should and is otherwise healthy.
  8. I believe you have to go with Bowers. There will be LB's available in the third round. To get two stud DL like Dareus and Bowers would be a steal IMO. I have read the medical reports and everything that I have read indicates that his knee will heal up just fine. If you look at him on film from this past season, he was a beast even after he injured the knee. Just think how good he will be when it heals. His medical re-checks indicate that it is healing well and nowhere do the reports suggest that he will need micro-fracture surgery. I say grab him. If we don't someone else will in this round for sure.
  9. I think you have to take Bowers if NE doesn't. Adding both Dareus and Bowers to this DL would be incredible. If not, then I take Brooks. You can stick with the theme and get a decent LB in Round 3. Sorry, meant Brooks Reed.
  10. Fitzgerald's OK, but I much prefer Fitzpatrick. Then again, they might go with Fitzgibbons.
  11. I agree completely. Too much emphasis on the first round. This team needs to have a solid draft, period. As long as they don't completely blow that first round pick, I will be satisfied. Get a good player in each round and the team will be better off for it.
  12. Let's hope they don't wear these ones blue on blue and white on white like the old ones. That was the biggest problem with the old uni's. They never were intended to be worn that way and they looked like crap. Even the current uni's were supposed to be blue pants with white jerseys and white pants with the blue jerseys. For some unexplained reason, they never wore them that way after the unveiling.
  13. I saw one scouting report that compared Locker to J.P. Losman. That is enough for me to want to stay away from him. I'm no expert and I haven't seen that much of Locker, but that report scared me.
  14. The average career of an NFL player is 3 1/2 seasons according to the NFLPA. That means that theoretically, if they started from scratch with rookie players, within four years, they would have the same level of talent. I don't believe that will ever happen, but it would not take very long to replace the existing lot of players with new ones of equal ability. The problem is of course revenue stream in the meantime. The networks would not pay the same amount for a diminished product in the first few years, which means essentially the onwers would lose a great deal of that huge pot of TV money. This will all get sorted out, it's just a shame that they couldn't negotiate a deal before it came to this ugly mess.
  15. I like Kaepernick too and I am hearing (Sirius NFL radio) that he will definitely go in the second round, so if we want him, that should be where we take him.
  16. And this is news? If we had been more successful in the draft, the record might have been a bit different over the past ten years. Mistakes were made, no doubt about it. Now if the guy had said the Bills had drafted well, that would have been a news flash.
  17. I believe the difference is that Kelly is a public figure. He is trying to use a public platform to show how he turned his life around in order to influence people to do the same. I'm sure it is not an easy thing to air your dirty laundry in public, but I believe his intentions are good. As far as him having character flaws, I don't believe that is a new revelation. The one thing that is indisputable is that he was a leader of men on the football field. God bless him and his family. They have been through a lot and it is good to see that they have come through it with their marriage intact and their lives headed in the right direction.
  18. In this article, Jake Locker is compared to current NFL QB's. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/617144-nfl-draft-history-says-jake-locker-is-not-worth-the-first-round-gamble In my mind, that's enough to steer clear of him. I liked Losman coming out of college too and look how that turned out.
  19. LOL, well it sure beats singing a song about how the sun will never come out again, which is the tune that seems to emanate from this space most of the time.
  20. Well you can count me among those that doesn't believe finishing dead last is a sunny day scenario. A psychologist could have a field day analyzing that mindset. And for the record, I didn't say a word about making the playoffs. I was just having a bit of fun with the defeatist mentality of some people on this board.
