  1. The bills are in deep trouble this week. I'm happy as hell DJ got fired but don't think it will make much difference. Ryan Fitzpatrick is our starter! He isn't a short or long term answer. We also most likely have Levitre at LT and Kirk freakin Chambers starting at RT. The D is even in worse shape. McGee most likely out, our LB's are a mess and we have a safety starting there. And to top it off, the worst rush defence won't have Stroud and most likely Kyle Williams playing. That spells disaster. I think they will try hard for Fewell and they know they are now playing for jobs as we won't have club Jauron in place next season, but in the end the injuries and lack of talent will be too much to overcome. We'd have a hard time beating a top college team with all the injuries and some of the scrubs we have playing now.
  2. Wouldn't it make more sense to bring in a GM and start from there? What gm is going to want to come in here and have a coach/coaching staff forced upon him - even if it is a big time coach. He is going to want to put "his people" in place. The approach/thought process on how to build a team and style of play might be polar opposite between any new gm and someone like Shanahan.
  3. "With the 8th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select............... Eric Berry or Taylor Mays - S " - don't be shocked if this happens - Whitners contract runs out next year. If DJ et al are still here - (god help us) it would sicken me and I'm sure I'd throw an object through my tv but it wouldn't surprise me.
  4. The bills need a LOT of things......... but more than anything they need a franchise qb. Get the qb and fill in with some fa's and other draft picks to help fill out the ol. You see alot more OL that become solid players that are picked in the later rounds than qb's. But to do anything in the NFL you have to have a top notch qb. A big part of the bills prob is their head coach, but also defenses are right up on the line and that kills the running game. They know that 99% of the time our qb's then throw the 4 yr outlet pass or so much pressure has come through the qb gets sacked. If you had a qb that could make throws down the field and into small windows the defense is forced to back off and that helps the oline and running game with not having 8-9 guys in the box. Obviously coaching and their staff and game planning helps too, which unless we see a house cleaning it won't change the bills fortunes.
  5. Agreed. Who are the leaders on the Bills? Edwards was quoted saying how he picked up on some things when sidelined and had a chance to speak to the OL about protection schemes and what they like!?! WTF! Why isn't he doing that in practice and better yet when the game is going on. I have never seen Trent Edwards look like he is firing guys up or getting in their faces for poor play. I also don't see him audible enough or Jauron won't let him. The communication looks to be lacking on offense. Does anyone truly think DJ is a leader? We see the same ho hum attitude, no passion and no accountability. We hear the same quotes about how the offense isn't working and how they need to check out the game film or why they can't seem to stop the run for the past 3 years. The whole organization just seems to be in a lull. They need someone somewhere to inject some life into them. The players look like they don't care if they lose - you can't tell if they won or lost usually. Its a rudderless ship right now. The guys on defense who should be leaders apparently aren't. Schoebel or Stroud?........doesn't seem like one. Whitner, McGee? Whitner is spouting off about Micheal Vick. Hey Donte quit worrying about guys on other teams and make some damn plays. He should be bolted to the bench the rest of the year w/ his mouth bolted shut. Polian would have killed some of these guys by now, but he probably would have never selected them. I'm sure those comments will unite the players for the rest of the year. This organization is a train wreck. Take it to the bank if DJ is still here next year we select a S with our first round pick and he will replace Whitner after next year as the starter.
  6. This offense has so many problems its hard to know where to begin fixing it. Until Jauron and his staff are gone it won't matter. We also don't know if Jauron is dictating to AVP what plays can be run or truly how much he allows AVP to implement in his plan each week. He may also have limited Trents ability to audible. Good teams and coaches put players in a position to win. I don't think the offense has to be super complicated with a playbook the size of an encyclopedia either. Every offense has base formations and looks....... its alot about having talent that can execute and adding wrinkles and new looks off your base offense, which I don't think they do or do nearly enough. What I notice with the Bills is that it seems Edwards or Fitz rarely audible.... If theres 8 or 9 in the box they go right ahead and run anyway. They don't create mismatches at all or force the d to cover a TE/WR with a S or LB often enough .... no use of motion to free up our receivers and like others have said, I have seen very few slants or routes going across the middle, play action etc. They do make it very easy to read what is coming. When half the posters here can sit at home and know what we are doing then I'm sure for d coordinators its very easy. How many times do we see Brady line up and take 2 steps and wing it over to Moss/Welker and they run a WR screen for 7+ yards all the time. Especially against us because our cb's are lined up 10 yards off the ball. Thats just smart and taking what is given. I'm not impressed with Trent this year... he has regressed it seems. I also do think he has not been put into a great position or have they game planned to play to his strengths. Most of this has been stated on here for a long time... until a real gm and group of scouts come in and a solid coaching staff is installed the bills will spin their wheels. Thats step 1. The next step would be to identify a franchise qb in this years or nexts draft and do what it takes to get him. I'd keep Trent around for the year while the rook learns. See what he can actually do under a real coach and game planning. Bring in a VET LT that is respectable in FA (along w/ a couple linebackers but the defense is a whole different topic) - If bell improves and pans out great, if not I have someone that can at least be competant. RT can be found between a battle of what we have (Bell, Meredith, Scott) and draft pics. Levitre stays put, wood to C and Butler back to G. Until that line gets better we have no chance. My remaining picks (may have to trade up to acquire a top qb) would go to both lines and LB.
  7. Flutie/RJ? who cares......lets face it they both were below average. I personally would have gone with RJ and he played very well in that Tenn game and had us in the lead with just a few seconds left and the special teams blew it. While RJ never really amounted to much, Flutie was really struggling down the stretch that year. Defenses had started to figure him out and slow him down. Alot of Flutians also fail to mention Flutie lost the year before in the playoffs at Miami as he threw an interception late in the game. All in all it was a wash......neither one of them was a qb good enough to take us anywhere and we have had the qb merry go round since then. I have never understood the flutie fascination and I still can't believe he is mentioned by some around here like he was Brett Favre. He had a small stretch of games in the NFL where he did anything. Most of his stats he racked up in the CFL. He really wasn't that good of a player and from what a lot of posters have said over the years, he is a pompous jerk off the field.
  8. And Levy greatly benefited from the very high draft picks we had (Smith, Kelly) and riding Polians coat tails.......I dont think marv was all that great of a coach. What he did do was hire very good assistants and let them do their jobs and keep all those players ego's in check. He was a good administrator of that staff. He was not a great x and o guy and he got out coached badly in SB 25. After his brief stint as gm I also don't think he was an astute talent evaluator either. Polian had to beg him to agree to the biscut trade. That move dramatically propelled the bills forward and took them to the next level and through the best years this team has ever had. Just about any coach with that group would have looked good.
  9. and that along w/ poor coaching and talent evaluators is why the bills have sucked the past decade.....
  10. If you have your own room go to the hardware store and buy a lock for the door. Keep your fridge in your room along w/ any other food/beer. Don't drive these d*cks anywhere either like people have suggested. If these guys can't show some class/respect to you and chip in for gas money, screw them. They aren't your friends. Locate some people who are your friends and try to find a way to room with them next semester/year. Life is too short to worry about making everyone around you happy...... You can never do it either. Someone will B word no matter what. And who cares if they don't like it, you or give you dirty looks.....sounds like you are living with a punch of pampered babies. I understand you are trying to make it work, but its a two way street. I'm sure they would complain if it were there car and you demanded to use it and or be driven around at a moments notice. A true friend or someone that was considerate would understand why you feel "used" and would throw in a few bucks for gas. Lots of people in college never have any money and alligator arms when it comes time to spend any
  11. And ole Ralphy boy would tell you to pack your crap and have you escorted from the stadium by security.......... Personally I think he would pony up......but there are so many factors that will play into the situation. Does Edwards show signs of improvement? Does Jauron get canned at year end? Do Modrak and Guy get canned? (Hopefully all do); Does a real GM get put in place? Who is the new coach - and who does he bring in for his staff? What is their opinion of Edwards? What type of offense/defense will they employ? Where do the bills end up picking? Is there a QB worthy of being picked at that point? Is there a better player in a position of need? (OL, DE, LB etc)....... Too many variables at this point. I hope Edwards does turn it around/show improvement. Otherwise we are bound to go through another rebuild and if that includes a rookie qb, we have to hope he turns out to be a good one. It seems like the bills have been just good enough to fall towards the middle of the pack and don't end up with true studs in the draft.
  12. I don't think anyone would take Poz over conlan (until the injuries).... Who was the other bills inside backer during the 90's SB teams? Bentley, ?? I'm having trouble coming up w/ other names. Those teams had 2 inside LB's so I think Conlan would start and Poz could also start in the middle replacing whomever we had opposite Conlan. No way Beebe is better than Evans either. Evans would have incredible numbers playing opposite Reed and TO and with Kelly throwing it to him, that offensive line and the run game we had w/ Thurman/Davis. Saying Evans hasn't put up great numbers as a #1 is relative to what he has had to work with. Our offense the past few years has had a revolving door at qb, horrible olines, leading to a bad run game, bad schemes/oc's and Evans being the only legit threat has been doubled all the time. Lee Evans isn't Jerry Rice, but as a #3 on those early 90's bills teams, he is the better overall player than beebe.
  13. Mcgee would start opposite Odoms McLovin would prob be our nickel Whitner would prob start at FS - Henry Jones woud be SS still Owens would be opposite Reed and Evans would edge out Beebe as the third Stroud would start over wright. Wright used to get pushed around all the time. Poz might be able to start as one of the inside backers. Def Morman Its hard to predict since the d scheme was so different. But this current bills team has no one the likes of bruce, bennett, kelly, or thurman. We have some good players, but elite difference makers? Owens was in his prime, but he appears like a 1 year rental.
  14. Maybe Marcia isn't as good when he hasn't been tipped off in advance of the defensive signals, formations, coverages etc. The Cheatriots seemingly no longer have this advantage and could be why Lord Brady has looked only average.
  15. I love the bills and will always root for them but to rip on people who question the direction and others as fans is very frustrating!!!!!!!!! Its called constructive criticism! Just because some people mention potential/glaring problems and the teams seemingly bad management, drafting history, coaching and winning % of the last decade does NOT mean we don't like the bills and don't want them to win. Only the ass kissers and people that bow down and kiss the ground these guys walk on and follow like sheep can follow the bills or else we need to take up golf/fishing? That kind of mentality gave us adolph hitler! (obviously the example is apples and oranges and the nazi's and holocaust are prob one of the most horrific events in history) Some of us just choose not to be sheep and swallow the crap that 1 bills drive has shoved down our throats the last decade.
  16. There are alot of people "whining" on these boards but look at the mess this team is in. Every "so-called" expert has been ripping the bills. Most of these are ex-players, coaches or people with many league contacts and do have expertise in professional football. They look at what has transpired here in the last week, year and decade and see a track record of dysfunction and non winning overall. I think most of us take the talk with a grain of salt but the bills track record speaks for itself. Its hard to argue with their opinion of the heirachy of this team. Do the bills deserve all the negative opinions or do these guys have as much insight to the team as a lot of local people? No, but they also aren't clueless and not understanding of what you need to have a good team. You asked what the current "gm" has done wrong or picks he shouldn't have made - the draft is a crapshoot first of all. Second it seems like the bills only really started in the right direction after a decade of fixing the lines this year. Its a good start and we have to start somewhere. But to not have brought in a vet and/or rookie tackle after trading Peters leads alot of us to believe they had a poor plan going into this season. There were lots of questions as to whether Langston Walker could be an effective LT. For this years draft, as an example - Jarius Byrd. He might be a good player someday. But are you serious in saying we couldn't have used another DE or OT, especially after trading peters? I think that pick would have been better served addressing one of those areas and there were still good options available based upon most of the draft experts. If Jarius Byrd becomes Ronnie Lott or Ed Reed then we'll all say we were wrong. How about McKelvin? Another 1st round CB in the Cover 2 which demphasizes cb's by design. James Hardy? He has been basically a non factor so far also. Russ Brandon deserves some credit for starting the process of rebuilding of the lines and some criticism as well for other decisions. Maybe he is hamstrung by Littman/Wilson? None of us know for sure. And I am a huge bills fan but just because someone voices displeasure doesn't mean they don't like the bills. I'd say the majority of us want them to win/do well. The "whining" is based upon this team and their front offices track record the past 10 years. And from the outsiders point of view, this team appears to be dysfunctional and lacking direction/leadership. Not many good teams fire their OC and cut the guy they told us was the answer/replacement to the LT position which is widely considered to be the most important position on the OL, 10 days before the season starts. It shows they didn't have a good plan in place coming from offseason to camp and are desperately trying to make something work only a few days before the opener. The chances that happens are slim. Our options are very limited - not many quality free agents left and the draft is long over. This team appears to just spinning its wheels. The "whining" will continue until they start winning consistently. I hope that happens this year but I have my doubts.
  17. When the hell is John Guy going to be fired!?! This guy is a joke.......all these guys we sign to big money suck and we cut them a few years later. I agree with most people saying this is horrible timing and this type of move should have been made a few months ago. We seriously have become a laughing stock. This smacks of the organization being cheap and lacking direction. Why they didn't go out and bring in a vet lt during free agency or draft one instead of jarius byrd I still don't understand. It makes sense to having a back up plan to most of us and with the inept nature of this team we shouldn't be surprised they had no alternate plan and this is what we are left with. I'll be shocked if we aren't drafting in the top 5 and have to endure another shuffle of coaches and players to fit the new "system".........
  18. This whole thing is a cluster f#$K.......Jauron's offenses over the years here and chicago have been bad. There are a bunch of problems that all have us at the train wreck we see now..... 1) revamp the oline....... all guys in new positions and several new/rookies. I like some of the moves but we knew they were going to struggle. The running backs pick up of blitzes has also been horrible. 2) overly complicated playbook/sets/formations etc. - with #1 we should be trying to make it simple.......I gotta agree w/ Jauron to a degree. Back when Kelly was running the k-gun, we only had 3-4 running plays, but we executed those plays very very well. By this point, Turk should have had installed those 3-4 plays and had the offense and oline mastered them. Sometimes less is more. I can't recall our o running screens, slants or even guys across the middle the past few years and never in motion. Why is lee evens or any receiver never put in motion to be put in a better position to make a play based upon the read of the d?? Its not a surprise then when Trent is constantly dumping the ball off/checking down. Talent - the line, searching for a viable TE and the play calls all factor here. 3) Does anyone else think our training camp was a joke? These guys should have been putting in tons of reps in training camp to get a modified offense down and working well. It seems like Trent is shell shocked/confused and the line looks ok on some plays and just as confused on others. 4) Turk having NO answer for the 3-4 is also horrific..... his 1000 play playbook had no answer for this? This offense looked like a high school team out there alot of preseason. This whole thing just reeks of no one taking charge and being a leader and organizing the team to put the players in the best position to win/succeed. That is squarely on Jauron and Brandon. Jauron and Turk should have had a plan and known every detail of it. If there was disagreement on style, philosophy it should have been discovered 6 mos ago.
  19. nothing would make me happier than to see little tommy cryin on the sidelines after losing or better yet being taken off on a stretcher and the bills win. After wilfork cheapshoted our qb (even if it was jp) we owe them one. I hate the pats more than any team in the league. Nothing would be better than us beating them, but I just don't see it. Jauron will be outcoached for sure and they will make adjustments to what we are doing and pull away. I don't think we even come close to the vegas line.......prob more like 21-24 points will be the margin.
  20. If you go into town a must place to go for lunch/dinner is Guido's.......... awesome food! Service is good and the owners are usually on hand. Italian family that relocated from NYC. We went back for dinner later in the week we were there the food was that good.
