  1. In today's NFL, it could easily be argued that two good players are more valuable than one great player. A long season with a very physical game means that injuries are not only a possibility but a definite certainty. So when discussions about Mario Williams or Vincent Jackson come up to be potential Bills, I have to consider the cost against the probable production. Williams has been solid but not great and he is coming off a major injury that usually never heels completely. A Jackson signing would be beyond stupid when you consider the locked in money at one position.
  2. The interesting thing about the first round round is that it really should be easy because the options are the most limited than in any other round. Get the guy who can make the most difference the next year. It is not the time for gambling which you can do in the late rounds and most especially in undrafted free agency. The first round is not the time to get the diamond in the rough and in my opinion, neither scout nor coach should get any credit for choices in the first two rounds if they do at all because these should be gimmes. Any knowledgeable Bills fan knows that Maybin could have moved to the Byrd spot (or much later) and Wood and Byrd could have been taken in the first round without issue. The problem with scouts was that you don't gamble in the first round and they did with Maybin, McGahee, Losman and McCargo and the gamble failed miserably and they did not learn from their mistake. Wood was one of the best centers in the draft. He was a starter since his freshman year and did very well. He was not a gamble. Same thing can be said about Mangold, any of the USC linebackers taken after Maybin, Orpakpo and a guy like Mankins who no one knew about and everyone questioned but the guy plays tough and hard and has started since he has been drafted. The Pats knew exactly what they were getting with him and he wasn't sexy but consistent. All of these guys have started and started well and will continue. The Bills should know their odds. Let's hope . . . again.
  3. After the run that Spiller had against Indy and the game he had against Cinnci, everyone wanted Spiller to start on opening day. He had some flashes during the season but for the most part had a unexpected year. One big run during the year does not a good running back make and same holds true for Lynch. However, it was timely and they only gave up a fourth round pick.
  4. The guy works hard and plays hard but really has not gotten much done during the time here which began by a holdout and a year less on his contract than most rookies in the top ten were signing for that year. He turned down five mill because he wants seven which is an overpayment for both amounts, so the team that gets him for seven if that is in fact what he gets will have a situation similar to what we had with Peters, Dockery, and Walker. The best player in a position of influence is under paid compared to the lesser player and you lose the best one because you can't up the ante or meet the budget for one group position. The Bills made a mistake signing Kelsay to such a huge contract. That was an overpayment but Whitner is asking for too much based on what he has done. I am more than happy to overpay for leadership but only to a degree. Whitner's request is foolish and he needs to question his agent.
  5. A split Ralph Wilson stadium is something that I would rather not see, but a discussion of Cleve, Pitt, Detroit and our Bills in the same division would create more sellouts. I would miss Miami, but I would rather have a stronger sense of my team being here to stay.
  6. He went to Boston College and he grew up in the area. Grow up.
  7. I would question question the football knowledge of anyone who would describe this thread as surreal. You probably went to Joes right, when you really wanted the Delaware blue and gold.
  8. We brought him here because both the Bills and his agent knew that there was not choice although the Dolphins would have grabbed him if we did not. He had just a couple of days to prepare and did well and played well for the entire time in Buffalo. We can say what we want about the Maybin pick, Trent starting ahead of Fitz, making average pass rushers cover backs and look like idiots and then giving them huge contacts, etc., but this is/was a mistake too. This guy started for us and played hard and is doing very well in Miami right now. To counter my point, TO is having a very good year as a Bengal, but it sure is fun watching late draft picks and undrafted fa's play well. I am pleased overall with where and what the Bills have done this year but this is a mistake on par with the others noted above.
  9. To say the Bills defense has played well of late may be somewhat true but it is not as though the Browns were that high up the offensive charts. It was sure looking like a long day on that first drive and the weather was pointing to a running type of game. With that in mind, Edwards deserves credit for his adjustments. That part of the defense has been impressive. There should be firings this year however. Whether it is Lewis in Cinnci or possibly Mangini in Cleve. There may be better defensive coordinators out there and the thing that I remember was that the Bills were late on hiring a coach and the trickle down moved to the coordinators. It is not as though he is doing a terrible job but there may be better ones available in an other month.
  10. The bootleg pass to McIntyre was a really nice call. Things seem to be coming together.
  11. The guy, from what I understand, does his homework and prepares himself. He is doing alot of college and pro games. Doing both sounds like it may be a bit much, but his 'throw in' facts about players has always proven to me that he is prepared. There have been far worse, so your hyperbole is blatantly incorrect if not for obvious effect. Everyone has a bad day and it could have been his.
  12. We are a very long way from the draft and it never goes how it is planned. Fitz can play at least in the system he presently is playing and what may happen with a full ota, camp with starting snaps, etc.
  13. On the fumble by Delhomme which was correctly called a fumble, the whistle blew when no one had possession. As a rule shouldn't the ball go to the possessor prior to the whistle. The referee made a mistake by blowing the whistle and it should have actually been a touchdown, but does anyone know why the Bills ended up with the ball.
  14. I have recently noticed that the price of tea is going down in China. I does concern me with regard to our gdp.
  15. If we thought our young receiver was humbled last week, how about a guy who was a first round pick who has been inactive for the past five weeks. The Vikings line is depleted somewhat and you would assume that Maybin would like to treat his very bruised ego with some strong play and be more of an asset than a liability. Win or lose, his play in the next couple of weeks will design the roadmap for the rest of his career. With respect to his contract, I understand it had a signing bonus but it was strongly incentive based which he obviously has not drawn from. Who would shed a tear if we had to cut this guy? Poz, Whitner, Jackson (new agent), and/or Fitz who are looking for some new money would not mind.
  16. Anyone who has made it in the NFL has had their share of disappointments. He played for Kentucky in the SEC against teams like LSU, Fl, and Alabama. He is Humbled (TX) and will move on.
  17. If Luck is not there which he probably won't be, he is absolutely the guy.
  18. Enough of this Steve Johnson stuff. The guy is one player on a team that has two wins. They are playing better, but all of this attention on one person is getting crazy. The sulking in the corner and the tweets . . . get over it. He is not the only one who is allowed to feel bad and get the attention for feeling bad. What Bills fan who was a fan of the Bills when they went to the bowls did not see this coming. Quick success, some media praise, national media praise, arrogance and then reality. To have a good football player who is a good guy is a nice thing and I think he is, but he needs a kick in the !@#$ from his coach or someone on the team. There is a reason why 'you act like you've been there' and that is because you don't get too high or too low. Hope someone pushes that message through to him or hopefully he's learned it himself.
  19. When the ref called the whistle, there was a second left and they called a timeout. It was close and it went against us but it was correct.
  20. The defensive adjustments at halftime have been solid against the Bengals of course and especially the Chiefs. I think that we have a particularly weak linebacking group and this is hurting but there is season left to be had and if I have anything, it is an understanding that the chalkboard discussions at half time will have some positive effect.
  21. There were certainly times when I felt the feeling that we all know so well and it is when the team has a play or two that just doesn't go our way or it appears as though the team is completely unprepared to play. 1. The Bengals looked to have a very easy drive on their first drive of the game and ran the ball well against our sieve-like running defense. 2. Although it was nullified by a penalty which was legitimate, the interception by Dhani Jones. 3. The interceptions by Joseph which of course included a touchdown. 4. The very makeable field goal by Lindel after a long drive amounts to nothing. 5. An extra second put on the clock before the half which actually was the correct call. There may be other things that didn't go against us but still pressed the memories of a group of players that have let the type of play exemplified by the first half crush their confidence in the second. The typical Bills would have folded like they did against the Packers and the Jets (who by the way are looking like a very strong playoff teams) and what happens during the rest of the season is yet to be determined of course. Our team, however, has a strong comeback game against a fairly talented team in their memory-toolbox to always reference when they are behind. There will continue to be struggles against the Pats and the Jets, but at least we have growth, improvement, possibly talent, and what seems to be an understanding of what the coaches are preaching. As a fan who was pretty down after the Jets game and certainly after an 0 and 8 start, I'll take those positives in a second.
  22. If you try and take what would have been with Trent Edwards as the continuous starter and where the Bills would be now, it would look pretty pathetic. Fitz would have beaten the Dolphins in the first game if he would have been given the job in the preseason and had gotten the snaps.
