It should be noted that a large majority of the posts from this point until the beginning of camp may be related to the qb controversy so I will throw my topic out and you can decide if you wish to go on. It is hard for any team to let go of a draft choice taken in the first three rounds within the first two/three years which Green Bay did with Brohm. It is not only admitting a mistake and a bad/wasted mistake; but it is also a refection on your scouting and overall management especially when it is a qb. The Pack must have been truly disappointed in the guy, extremely impressed with the guy the got last year which is usually the case with most cuts like Brohms, or they really thought they could sneak him through the practice squad, or another reason. Another thing to consider, with respect to the Green Bay climate, would be the Favre impact. Brohm was walking in on an absolute mess with the media having Favre updates every half hour, Rodgers getting hate mail and more attention than what he would have liked on things outside of football. The Pack had to make Rodgers a winner and quickly. The scrutiny of all the qbs must have been a bit tough. This isn't to say that Brohm didn't suck and I am not trying to make excuses for the guy. I didn't watch too much with GB but they did play a preseason game against us and I don't remember him playing especially well, but that is one game. When Brohm was drafted, Mayock said that he did nothing incredibly well but was strong at analyzing and reading defenses quickly. I am an Edwards guy, but it will be interesting to see how Gailey does this. Let all three of them sweat.

This is a very strange place to come out of the closet. Have you talked with someone professionally about this? -

Didn't Joe Montana win a superbowl
Logical Reasoning replied to Logical Reasoning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The idea behind the title of this which included Joe Montana was that there have been successful qbs including Joe Montana, Brett Favre and others; especially those who have run the west coast; who have been successful. I personally hate the title of TE being a check down qb because if that is what you have to do then do it. Also, you can't have four qbs going into training camp with the time equally split between them because no one will be ready. You've done your due dilligence but the cost of that is timing amongst your receivers and the qb and an overall readiness of the first unit. There have been many people who have said that Edwards should not be compared to Montana and you are absolutely correct. -

Laughable. Hey brilliance, there is a finite period of time between today and opening day against the dolphins. Can you take that time and equally divide it by four and hope that you find the guy you are looking for while at the same time allowing the rest of the offense that is, by the way learning a new offense, time to gel. There is no choice to pick a qb prior to training camp so that that particular qb can get the reps with the first team that has a makeshift offensive line, and questions at receiver. If you don't like Edwards than fine, but he may be the lesser of all the evils and this captain checkdown stuff, which announced the thread but is not the main theme of it, is a bunch of crap. Also, if there is anything that he has it is accuracy. Hate to beat a dead horse but the pass to Reed between the Wash defenders to get in field goal range was not bad. It is my opinion that he should start and the sooner that decision is made the better off the team is. -
Didn't Joe Montana win a superbowl

Did you read the bullet points. If you are in the Buffalo region, Edwards has been strongly criticized for being a checkdown quarterback even when his completion percentages are high. Edwards is in no way comparable to Montana but the concept of checking down is not such a terrible thing because some of the best qbs have had to do that and have been successful. The Bills need to pick a qb sooner than later. -
Didn't Joe Montana win a superbowl

My thoughts may have been a bit vague but it was more within the idea of a west coast offensive and not so much Montana. Touche'. -
Didn't Joe Montana win a superbowl by being a "captain checkdown". Some reasons to name Edwards the starter now: 1. He has more experience than the other quarterbacks 2. A new offensive system requires more reps and allows timing with the receivers 3. He is more accurate than the other three 4. Takes away the tension surrounding the team regarding this question of who will start. (supplement) 5. He can scramble, has some quickness and appears stronger. 6. There aren't enough preseason games to give valid assessments. 7. Being a checkdown qb was a large piece of the west coast offense. 8. If its Fitz or Edwards, I go with Edwards and neither Brown nor Brohm are ready. Bring it.

Was Schobel that good?
Logical Reasoning replied to Logical Reasoning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A dachshund is a dog right? Don't make stupid remarks like that. Why was he as smart as any player on the field? Who was he as smart as and smarter than? -
The guy was fast off the edge and I can still see him intercepting the Brady throw and running in for a touchdown last year in the first game and it could be that he was on teams that were not real good for an entire decade. I, however, don't feel as if he was that great. I never heard of him being a great leader in the lockerroom, his sacks weren't exactly timely or clutch, and it seemed like he was injured quite a bit especially during the last two or three years. He was a solid Bill and played hard when he was in there but this does not seem like as big a loss as the media is making it. Hope I don't have to eat these words.

Did anyone hear me on Shredd and Ragan?

Yes. Didn't really get the Catholic/Protestant thing but got the overall pride thing. Didn't exactly get what you are sending to America. Sounded a bit obscene. -

Your points are not invalid, but my point is that the Bills have not gotten worse this past offseason as far as talent and their coaching is better and coaching has relevance. Gailey tells it like it is and there is a genuine separation between him and the players and he gets the Xs and Os and is willing to be accountable at least offensively. And your captain checkdown stuff is bologna and frankly quite old. We have three fair quarterbacks and a rookie who will not get cut which means that doing things the coaches don't want you to do will get you cut and quickly. Also, so what if the defensive schemes are different. The scheme should fit the players and not vice versa. Our offensive line and receivers are not strong and I'll give you that one, but how many teams are completely set in all phases of their team. Accept some weaknesses and hopefully the coaches can hide them somewhat and I would suggest seeing someone for your depression. -
If you have been a Bills fan for the past five to seven years, you have heard of defensive players from the Jets, Pats and Dolphins note that the Bills offense was fairly predictable. I almost recall Bruschi saying that he knew exactly where the Bills were going and the play they called. If Gailey is the slightest bit more clever than the other coordinators, which I believe he is, we should be much better off than we have been. It is way too early to make predictions but the Bills are some 'slight improvements' away from a playoff spot. To those of you who say that this post is typical foreshadowed optimism, you have hit the nail on the head, but two or three reversed plays that go with the Bills, some healthy players and seven and nine can become nine and seven and then you have to arguably win one more to be in.

I fully understand that an open competition is the best way to go regarding the quarterback situation. However, the implementation of a new offense and the impact of timing between the receiver and the starter should deter any desire to make this "open competition" last into training camp. The language, the formations per Trent, and players themselves are different which tells me that the starter needs to play with the first unit as much as possible. Can Trent become a better quarterback with a new coach and a new playbook and schemes? Can Fitz who is in his third offense in three years do a better job than the job he did last year? Can Levi shock the world because if he can't, he should make the team but not be nothing better than third string? Can Brohm be the guy everyone thought he could be coming out of college? At least one of these guys is going to have to go and if Levi puts up any bit of potential, he makes the team which leaves us with three. No kid gloves here. Let someone go and move forward. It has been said that having two starting quarterbacks means you don't have any. Where does that put the Bills. Don't make a stupid decision, but make it sooner than later. If it is that hard to make it, then it really doesn't matter who is cut really.

Where did we really reach?
Logical Reasoning replied to Throwback Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Troupe, Carrington and Easley were reaches. Not one one these players played against major division one competition consistently. I am not saying they are going to play poorly because I don't think that will be the case, but from a lay persons perspective, Troupe was second team conference in a poor conference, Carrington was solid in a very poor conference, and Easley did not start fully during his senior season. They may turn out fine, but there are question marks where there were other players at posiions they played that were taken behind them with less questions. -
We aren't the dumbest, but a player will eventually end up with negative feedback of the squeaky wheel thing.

Rules for not renewing
Logical Reasoning replied to Logical Reasoning's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You participate on a website exclusively focussed on the news of the Buffalo Bills but you believe that "The Bills are an embarassment to Buffalo" and "Bills football is nothing more that a social drinking festival". You are either not saying what you truly believe which would mean you are telling a lie for effect or you need very serious professional counseling. -

Your sensitivity serves you well because my post was specifically directed in response to you and three grand is alot of dough. No question about that. But accept these facts that many may argue with. You are not as big of a fan now that you have the option to buy season tickets, you've been doing it, and now you aren't because your emotional investments have not paid you the dividends you were expecting. Second, like I noted bragging about it on a Bills forum blog is not cool. It is a free country and you can get mad when Royal takes a giant step out of the end zone or any other of many stupid plays by players and coaches but don't bite the hand that feeds you. But a real fan sticks with the team when the team is going good and bad. It is real easy to be a fan when the team is winning. You and others like you aren't as good as you used to be. Don't worry though. There is always someone to take your place.
