What if American football used soccer-style rules?
CodeMonkey replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I suppose if your view was limited to within the borders of the US that might be true. But for example, if you look at the 10 highest paid athletes in the world in 2013 (didn't see a 2014 list) you would see that there were 2 tackle football players, 2 basketball players, and 3 football (soccer) players. http://www.sportsbreak.com/sports/10-highest-paid-athletes-in-2013/ It would to a vegetarian or vegan. It's all subjective. -

Had one of those teaching "don't let this happen to you" moments with my now 15 year old son when we was probably 10 or 11 or so as well. In lot 1, a guy leaning over the guardrail to the service road heaving his guts out. Staggered away from the guardrail and started drinking more. He still brings it up occasionally as well. Those kind of things have a big impact seeing it in real life instead of someone telling you about it. -

Did you watch the Mexico Croatia match last night? Two textbook handling instances that were so obvious they could be used for referee training and neither was called. Crazy. -
Exactly. Or Harbaugh. My fear is BellyCheat gets Spiller because you know that !@#$er would figure out a way as well.
-
His overall numbers are very impressive to be sure. But he is a all or nothing back. The occasional big runs surrounded by a bunch of no gain or loss carries. The average still looks good on his stat sheet, but puts the defense on the field a lot with all the 3 and outs from his other carries. If Marrone can figure out a way to maximize Spillers big runs while minimizing all of his no gains then, and only then, will Spiller not be an overall liability in my opinion. And if Marrone can do that, then the league will definitely have to look out for the Bills.
-
That is my issue with Spiller as well. Give me a back who consistently runs for 4 or 5 yards every time he touches the ball any day. That moves the chains. Backs like Spiller look good on highlight reels however. Not Spillers fault, it's just the way of the waterbug.

I wasn't there, but this woman generally is not prone to exaggeration and is pretty level headed. I agree with you in general about good natured ribbing between adults like you described. I would however, not expect male adults to be doing that to a woman with her kids unless they knew the woman. -

I agree and also feel that the trouble makers are in the vast minority of those in attendance. But as an example I know a woman who had the misfortune to grow up in CT as a Boston sports team fan. She took her young sons to a Bills Pats* game with the kids in their Pats* jerseys. The kids, probably aged 10 +/- 2 years, were verbally abused and physically harassed both in a stadium lot and inside the stadium to the point she had to leave the game early fearing for her kids safety. Yes I know it's best not to wear an away jersey. But there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behavior. It leads people to believe that the average intelligence of a Bills fan is somewhere in the extremely low (moron) level or lower. There could be 69,999 decent people at a Bills game, but unfortunately it only takes one major league loser to ruin it for quite a few people unlucky enough to come across him/her. Sadly, there is no shortage of such losers at any given Bills game. I can't imagine anyone here is one of these losers, but I would love to hear from one why they do it. Minus the "I was drunk" bull **** of course. -
If minimal money was guaranteed, perhaps

Fred Jackson. But I doubt he has stayed awake nights worrying about the Bills offense at all in recent years. His sleepless nights have probably been about the lack of healthy talent on his offense.

Can we trust Roger Goodell?

Maybe, who knows. One thing I do know is it would be fun being part of one of these groups though huh. -

So you are not sure what message Goodell was sending by having lunch with JBJ. But it was a bad idea that he did it. So i guess if Goodell did have a sneaky motive in mind, he didn't do a very good job getting his point across ... whatever that point was. -

That boils this entire topic down to 1 sentence. Some feel as you do, and others do not. -

Bush league? It is my understanding that people who deal in billion dollar acquisitions frequently have lunch/dinner meetings. They were not meeting in the shadows discussing how to !@#$ over Bills fans. Simply business as usual. Well now that you mention it. Please sell to Pegula and make sure he signs a 100 year "iron clad" deal to stay in WNY. Thank you. -

In that case I retract it Unless of course they both had wings for lunch. In which case it's on like a mofo! -

Probably because JBJ asked for one, for whatever reason. All opinions are welcome, mine is that this lunch meeting is 100% a non issue. -

I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that Goodell worked for the owners, not the other way around (for example he is the CEO and the owners are the board of directors). And I would imagine the owners take his advice very seriously or he would not have been appointed commissioner. But I'm not sure how any of that is relevant to him having a lunch meeting with JBJ or Pegula or anyone else. -

Probably as soon as Mr. Pegula requests one. -

So what's the problem here? That Goodell had lunch with JBJ? Goodell is the NFL commissioner and as such having meetings with potential owners is part of his job. It is not his decision as to who the next owner of the Bills will be. Non-issue. -

That's about the best, most concise explanation I have seen about this (but I suspect you meant collision, not collusion .. unless you meant the Pats* ). The worst one I think though is "hand ball" (handling). I see players even in the world cup matches wanting this call even if the player has his arms down at his side and the ball happens to bounce up and hit his arm. At the youth club level it is far worse. if you attempt to explain the actual rule to a soccer Mom she looks at you like you are crazy. -

Even if I thought you were lying, the bolded part seals it that you are indeed speaking the truth
