  1. Well, I'm gonna be a little crazy and say I'm excited to see the OL this week against Cleveland. The Browns have 2 huge monsters at DT with one of them being a 3 time ProBowler (Rodgers). I'm very excited to see Wood in the Center spot and some Wang in at RG a little. If anyone else here is like me, you have actually been a little suprised and maybe a little pleases with the play of SOME of our OL this year. Bell seems to be playing decent and getting a hold on the position a little more, Levitre has held his own at LG, Hangartner has played decent at C, and Wood has been really good at RG. The RT position is a def need for us in the offseason, however with the exception of RT I'd be ok with going another year with what we have. Give these guys more time together to gel and I think were alright.

This week may mark the beginning if some changes that I can't wait to see. Wood stepping in at C, and Wang playing at RG. With all else the same, I think you might see this line starting next season, and I think this Sunday will be the spark for it all. Can't wait to see these guys play.

    2011 OL

    LT- Bell

    LG- Levitre

    C- Wood/Handgartner

    RG- Wang/Handgartner

RT- FA/Draft choice from round 1-3

I also like the idea of seeing what these new players can do, but my expectations are tempered with regard to Wang at RG. He may prove to be a good backup G/OT next season, but I think Urbik (once healthy) is our best option at RG. I'm really interested to see how Wood plays at center. His performance down the stretch could have great implications on our draft/free agency strategy. Bell - Levitre - Wood - Urbik - Love/Carimi

  2. BRAVO!!!

It's very heartening to see some new posters here like yourself and Steampunk who are really bright, have perspective, and a good sense of humor.

I hope both of you guys post a lot more. We can really use it here.

Agree with the good sense of humor part, but how can someone (Bills9999) say for certain the Aaron Maybin is an "Ectomorph" or whatever it's called? Furthermore, what evidence exists to suggest that "ectomorphs" can't be successful rush OLB's in the NFL? Interesting link to the information about human anatomy, but how is this noteworthy information?

  3. Maybin can't "change" is body type, he can only make the most of what he was born with. There are three basic body types, and you can be a combination of the three

    1. Endomorph- Wide hips, low center of gravity, slow metabolism easy to gain fat and muscle. Offesive linemen and interior defensive linemen lean toward this body type

    2. Mesomorph- Broad shoulders, athletic, easily gain muscle and fat. These guys are the LB's, speed DE's, RB's and just about all skill positions.

    3. Ectomorphs- Thin, weak and fragile with high metabolisms who struggle to put on fat and muscle. There are very few ectomorphs in the NFL and those who are are wide receivers or kickers. Ectomorphs tend to be vollyball players, distance runners, hairdressers and interior designers.

Maybin is an ectomorph and there nothing he can do to change that no matter how much he pumps up his lats

    http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/body-types-ectomorph-mesomorph-endomorph.html

Are you for real?? LOL!! Isn't ectomorph that slimy green ghost from the Ghostbusters movies?

  4. Too many holes at LB to fill, but up front we don't look all that bad.

Could we be going back to the 4-3? One or two 4-3 linebackers from FA could seal the cracks nicely.

How does this look for a six man rotation: Kelsay, Dwan, Troup, Williams, Carrington, Clayborne Robert Quinn  ?

They give you a some good base and situational looks from the 4-3, IHMO.

Just one minor change. Clayborn would be better suited to play DT in the 4-3. We would have that position pretty much locked down with our current players.

  5. Remember that post recently, where The Bills are known to avoid Longhorn players (due to Mike Williams), and the Redskins knew Orakpo would still be there after the Bills picked.

Do you suppose the Bills are still shying away from UTexas players?

It's a pretty stupid policy, lumping all Longhorns into the same category just because you are unable to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I wonder which braintrust member instituted that policy.

That's all silly speculation. To condemn an entire college program due to one bad draft pick is insanity. Remember where Trent Edwards went to college? Should we avoid drafting Luck (if we had the chance) just because he played at Stanford? Furthermore, should we dismiss all Penn State prospects just because of Aaron Maybin?

If the player has talent, and the front office likes him, then they will draft him regardless of where he went to school.

  6. I agree with everything you posted besides the statement in bold. I am not certain, but I suspect you would discover that the overwhelming majority of "elite left tackles" in the NFL (past and present) were not top 5 picks in the draft. The problem is...who do we include in this group of elite LT's?

I'm going to do some research....

    Joe Thomas - 3rd pick overall 2007

    Ryan Clady - 12th pick overall 2008

    Jake Long - 1st pick overall 2008

    Michael Oher - 23rd pick overall 2009

    D'Brickashaw Ferguson - 4th pick overall 2006

    Jordan Gross - 8th pick overall 2003

    Matt Light - 2nd round pick 2001

    Marcus McNeill - 2nd round pick 2006

    Going back a bit further...

    Walter Jones - 6th pick overall 1997

    Jonathan Ogden - 4th pick overall 1996

    Orlando Pace - 1st pick overall 1997

    Flozell Adams - 2nd round pick 1998

    Jon Runyan - 4th round pick 1996

    Tra Thomas - 11th overall pick 1998

    Going way back...

    Anthony Munoz - 3rd pick overall 1980

    Art Shell - 3rd round pick 1968

    Jackie Slater - 3rd round pick 1976

    Ron Yary - 1st overall pick 1968

I guess you may have a legitimate argument that many elite LT's (especially within the past 10 years) have been top 5 picks. Otherwise, I think it's basically just luck of the draw. Certainly, elite left tackles have been drafted in the later rounds. You never know.

Even if we pick the top LT in the draft we'll be picking him about 20 slots too high. So guess what folks..........IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!! Carimi or Love in the 2nd and we'll be fine.

God I hope one of those two slips to us in the 2nd round. With this weak OT draft class, does anyone think that Carimi or Love will fall this far? I don't really see it happening.

  7. The problem that nobody is talking about here is that elite Left Tackles are just too hard to find......when they do come along they tend to be top 5 picks in the NFL draft....and even then you might end up being the tackle that the raiders drafted a while back who was supposed to be the next Anthony Munoz

Suggs, Peppers, Mathews.....that is a heck of a list to be holding your own against....and keep in mind that Bell has probably NOT REACHED HIS CEILING.....he is still raw....still hasn't played a lot of football....and still improving.

What we should be doing is improving the Right Tackle position....moving Wood back to his natural position.......and putting a blocking TE on the field that can catch....that will go a long way into improving line play.

I still like Urbik even though he is done for the season

    Bell

    Levitre

    Wood

    Urbik

    Love

I'm going to do some research....

  8. Davis will be 33 next season and has missed plenty of games in 09-10. I'd draft LB heavy, if they weren't so poor at QB, OT, TE, and now perhaps CB.

Davis is on the downside of his career, but was a decent LB when he was healthy this year. I disagree that they are "poor" at QB and CB, however, I agree with your evaluation of our talent at OT and TE. Definitely need to address those areas in the offseason; probably spending a 2nd or 3rd round pick on an OT. Hopefully they can address TE through free agency.

  9. Coming off a major knee injury last year D. Bell has been solid. He's quick and moves well. Sonetimes he looks all pro leading a run block then other plays he looks pretty average. He's healing, learning and improving. He had a long day against Allen but who hasn't? It's way too early to say he's not the guy. I don't get the posters who blithely say move him to RT. He's not a power guy like an RT. He's a natural LT that I think will be damn good. See how long he'd last on the FA market.

Very good point that is often overlooked by the "we desperately need a LT" crowd. D. Bell is a natural left tackle. It would not be to our advantage to move him to RT. Our best option is to draft a RT prospect in round 2 or 3. We have depth in the interior of the line, especially with the solid play of Urbik. I would love to see this:

    LT Bell

    LG Levitre

    C Wood

    RG Urbik

    RT Gabe Carimi

Hangartner, Wrotto, Howard, Wang, and a draft pick or two for depth. IMO...that could be a sick offensive line.

  10. So what if we have to give up next years number one as well. If Luck comes out and we are sitting at number 2 or 3, why not trade up to get him. Yeah we will give up some draft picks, but who cares. We don't have a very good history at drafting in the first round anyway. take that option away, get the best available player in college football this year, and hope we hit on some more late round talent like Stevie, Jason Peters or Kyle Williams.

No way. Take the best defensive player available. There are some absolute beasts in this draft class. We have no guarantee that Luck is going to be the next Peyton Manning, and we have way too many needs on this team to be trading away early round picks.

  11. Now Johnny...that was mean. Go sit in the corner & think about yourself. When you decide you can play well with others, you can come back to your desk.

Sorry Mr. Enuf.....never really played well with others. When I recognize an arrogant douche, I tend to call them an arrogant douche. Character flaw I suppose 0:)

  12. Enough of watching this patch-ed up FA OL at the T slots. Draft 6'7" monster Costanzo from BC and solve this issue once and for all. Bell is too weak to be a real solid guy. Move him to the right side if he can get stronger but this Costanzo kid is a monster in running and a great pass blocker. Our worries would end from the blind side of Fitz if he is teamed up with Levitre. Move Wood to C and we woul dbe soild there. Juts solve the right side next, maybe thru Free agency or other picks.

Did you see Castonzo get abused by Robert Quinn last season? I wouldn't take the guy with our first pick, but maybe if he slid to our pick in the second round. I don't see that happening.

  13. This is much more likely to be McDrainBramage. Notice no letters were harmed in the making of that post, plus the poster's name is Whodat.

You're a tool. So Leodis is not the most cerebral player on the Bills roster. Who died and made you the king of everything intellectual? Then you go on to criticize the poster's name? Get a life.

  14. Considering that much of the team is the same as last years... I can't exactly cheer for Chan considering the team has gotten worse this year vs better. I do like him, I like his attitude, and I like what he's done with the offense.... but absolutely none of that matters when the team has gotten worse (unless, by some miracle, we win the last 4 games of the year).

Do you remember last weekend when an overpowered, outclassed Bills team fought and clawed against the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers? How about hard fought losses against division leading teams like Chicago, Baltimore, and Kansas City? I know, I know...we lost those games and we are 2-10. I think it's pretty clear, however, that we are a better team than last year. Despite the adversity, this team plays with grit, determination, and pride. I have not been this proud of a Bills team in many years. It was one game...and we had a bad one. Get over it.

If you can't handle it....I'm sure there is still room on the Patriots or Jets bandwagon.

  15. Yup.

It doesn't matter who we pick.... no matter who they are, they will be a loser. The only success a player can hope to have if we draft them, is if we get rid of them and he goes to play in the UFL.

Jeez...I think I'll go suck on my exhaust pipe for a while, maybe take a swan dive off the garage roof
