  1. What's up with this Nostradamus like post? Not only can you predict the final score of the game, but you can also predict the individual statistics of the players as well? If this is true, I would like to hire you as my official fantasy consultant. Better yet...maybe you could help me out with a ten-team parlay next week?

  2. Don't know much about him, but from your description he is a project likely at least 3 years away from having an opportunity to play. The Bills are not in a position to use draft picks on projects. Therefore your scenario would have to have them still using a high pick on a QB to start or continue going forward with Fitz hoping this guy pans out in a few years, which is a waste of resources and time. Teams that have veteran developed QBs and not many holes can use valuable picks on projects a la Troy Smith or Dennis Dixon with Baltimore or Pittsburgh. Not the Bills as they currently are.

    What this person wrote.

Look dude, if we are going to take a QB in this year's draft, it damn well better be someone who can come in pretty much right away and be "the guy." We have too many holes to fill via the draft, and we already have a decent backup in Fitz; therefore we certainly will not be selecting 2 quarterbacks. Guys like Tyrod Taylor and Terrell Pryor are talented athletes, but do not have great success as QB's in the NFL. I know, I know, Mike Vick Bla Bla Bla...

We need a strong armed, accurate, quarterback who possesses good pocket presence, leadership, and can scramble a little bit if needed. We do not need an experimental, hybrid QB/WR who can run all over the field, but cannot throw a good ball in the harsh buffalo weather. If we are not able to draft Luck or Mallett with our first pick, I would much rather have a guy like that Devlin kid from Delaware in the 2nd or 3rd round.

  3. Maybe it has more to do w/ the folks who evaluate talent and less to do w/ some sorta "guilt by school choice" issue.

Agreed. Please people...lets stop this madness. I'm tired of reading posts that say things like "west coast quarterbacks suck" or "please no more QB's from Stanford." This type of logic is simple minded and ridiculous. If the guy has talent worthy of our first pick....then lets draft him!! I don't care if he went to Stanford or the North Dakota School for the Blind. Also, I seem to remember a relatively talented QB from Stanford. His name was John Elway, and I think he had a pretty successful career.

  4. Arkansas vs Auburn at 3:30pm features QB Ryan Mallett vs QB Cameron Newton

and the head to head match-up tonight, Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi vs Ohio State DE Cameron Heyward at 7pm

With Stanford off today, you know Buddy is at the Arkansas game, watching Mallett.

Good call on watching Gabe Carimi. I've watched several Wisconsin games this year and have been really impressed with him. Most draft "experts," however, don't view Carimi as an elite OT prospect. In fact, most information I've read projects him as playing RT on Sundays. They say he lacks the athleticism and technique to be a true LT in the NFL. Tonight will be a true test for him, as Heyward is as good as it gets at DE in college football.

I haven't seen much of Newton, but I see that he is flying up draft boards.

  5. A lot of the points, yards, completions, etc. came in "garbage time."

Garbage time starts with 15 minutes left in the first quarter...what's your point? Admit it, Fitz has been one of the only bright spots for the Bills this season. He would make a great mentor for a smart, young QB from Stanford.

  6. So you left out all the successful 1st-rounders and will be surprised you get ripped??

Go to http://www.drafthistory.com/positions/qb.html and look at all the successes and failures at QB in various rounds, then look at other positions in the first round.

The fact is busts abound at all positions, and QB is actually no worse than any other.

Would you prefer we draft the next Aaron Maybin (DE), Eric Flowers (DE), Mike Williams (OT), or Tony Manadarich (OT)?

I believe in building the lines first too, but the truth - when you actually look at the draft history - is that you can screw those picks up too.

The safest 1st-rounders have been TE's, btw, but it's also rare that a TE has been viewed as a round one talent.

Bottom line is that the best move is to not reach at all, take the best player available (within reason considering team needs) and hope your scouting department didn't screw up.

Do please also look at the history of the Super Bowl - just over half the starting QB's were first-rounders.

Good post. I actually wouldn't mind the Bills drafting a QB with their first pick, given of course that the right player is there. If not, then we need to rebuild this team from the inside-out. Draft a monster, QB eating 3-4 defensive end with the first pick.

  7. Go out there and get that incestuous OT Tony Washington!! Why not give him a try? After all, the "expert" scouts felt that he had 2nd 3rd round talent. So he boinked his sister when he was 16. I'd rather have him than that a guy who's idea of entertainment in smashing dog's heads off of trees!!

  8. This "Poz only makes tackles 10 yards downfield" bull **** is ridiculous. Number one, he plays behind the line so that's where most of his tackles are normally going to happen. Number two, our d-line is among the worst in the league and Poz is the only one on our team that cleans up their mess. He is always around the ball and is in the worst possible situation he could be in here in Buffalo.

Agreed....put him behind a defensive line like Baltimore, Minnesota, or Chicago and he's a pro-bowler.

  9. Let's not forget...Whitner has always been a liability in coverage, not just the last couple years. He also is a very inconsistent tackler. I agree with previous posts, however, in that this team has far greater problems than Donte Whitner. There are other players/coaches who deserve a lot more criticism for their poor play (i.e., Cornell Green, Posluszny, George Edwards, Stroud, Maybin, just to name a few).

I think the fan outrage directed toward Whitner stems from the fact that he was the #8 overall pick in the draft, coupled with the fact that he is such a jackass with his incessant tweets and outrageous predictions. I get that.

  10. Shoelace will get absolutely CRUSHED IN THE NFL. He's nice don't get me wrong, but all that little man speed is no good in the big leagues. Oh and BAMA JUST LOST TO S. CAROLINA. OSU WOULD HANDS DOWN BEAT ANY SEC CONFERENCE TEAM. TRUST. West coast QB's are a !@#$in waste! Look at our former beloved QB in edwards. What a stud! Give me a !@#$ing break.

I'd take Aaron Rodgers. You're crazy if you think Terrell Pryor is going to be a good QB in the NFL. Backup or change of pace gadget player at best (makes me think of Brad Smith). Yes he's athletic, but he is not a good passer. He has arm strength, but he is inconsistent with his accuracy. NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. There's no talent difference between the Giants and Bills? Are you being serious?

Kenny Phillips and Antrell Rolle to Whitner and Byrd?

Justin Tuck, Kiwanuka, Umenyiura, and Pierre Paul to what? Chris Canty? You think there's no talent difference? You gotta be kidding me.

Yes, I'm being completely serious. My point was that good coaching and a good defensive scheme can transfer a group of average to slightly above-average defensive players into a solid defense. How else can you account for the improvement in the Giants defense this year? Yes, they added Pierre Paul, but otherwise what is the difference? Perry Fewell. If you can't tell the difference between the Giant's defense this year, and their defense last year, watch a couple games.

  12. Big difference in talent level between the Giants and the Bills. His defense was not very good last year in Buffalo either.

I disagree that there is a big talent difference between the Giants and Bills on Defensive...where the difference lies IMO is in the scheme and the coaching. Buffalo clearly does not have the personnel to implement the 3-4 defense, and they do not appear to be very well coached.

    Defensive Rankings

    NY Giants

    2009

    13th total

    15th pass

    14th rush

    2010

    1st overall

    1st pass

    10th rush

The stats tell the story. I don't think I need to post the Bills defensive statistics, as you can probable speculate that we are much worse off than we were last year.

  13. The more I look, is there even an OT worthy of a #1 overall?

The answer to that question will be revealed as the draft draws closer. Based on preliminary evaluations by "NFL draft experts," there does not appear to be an OT worthy of the #1 overall pick. I am in agreement with the fans who want the Bills to draft a QB with their 1st round pick. I am not convinced, however, that the Bills' next "franchise" QB is going to be available in this draft. Why waste a high first round draft pick on a QB if you are not certain that that player has the skill set to be a top QB in the NFL. I don't think that Locker or Mallett are worthy of a top-three draft pick, and I still have my concerns about Andrew Luck (although he appears to be the best option). If the right QB isn't there, and there are no worthwhile OT's, then I think it's a no-brainer...select the best 3-4 DE available.

  14. Occasionally when my wife and I take our two dogs to the dog park, there is a familiar Chihuahua there. He is small and vocal -- he yips and yips, and as the other dogs run and wrestle and play, you can tell that all the little Chihuahua wants, all he desires in the world, is just to be able to play with the big dogs.

But he is never going to be any stronger or tougher or faster than he is. And he is never going to exhibit the bravery or intelligence necessary to overcome that. He is never going to get their attention. He is never going to be anything but a casual nuisance to them. So he just sits there, and yips and yips and yips, like a vile little half-rodent, hoping that he can make up for what he lacks in doggyness with diminutive yipping.

Donte Whitner is a Chihuahua. Not nearly as good as he wants to be, and endlessly trying to make up for it with noise.

    Good fable!!

Ever hear the one about the dog with the nice juicy steak in his mouth?? He was walking over a bridge on his way to the dog park, and just happened to glance over the edge to see his reflection in the river below. Well...as he looked closer, the steak in his reflection looked much bigger and juicier than his. He was jealous of this other dog who looked strikingly similar to himself. After staring at his reflection for a bit, the dog decided to drop his steak and grab the one in his reflection. Well...that dumb dog lost his juicy steak as it sank to the bottom of the river, and he soon realized that the steak in the reflection was not real.

Moral of the story....Donte Whitner sucks.

  15. I'm not convinced that we absolutely need to go QB with our first pick in the 2011 draft, particularly if Andrew Luck doesn't declare. I would be just as happy taking the best LT available. Either Derek Sherrod from Miss. State or Joseph Barksdale from LSU would do just fine. I watched the LSU - Tennessee game last Saturday, and was really impressed with Barksdale. The guy's a freakin beast!!

I know people will say that these guys might be a reach with the 1 or 2 pick, but screw that. We need to shore up our offensive line before we do anything else. The last thing this team needs is to draft a young, talented quarterback and have him get destroyed every Sunday.

  16. McKelvin is or is close to being a shut down corner. I'm sorry to say but McGee is past his prime and with this nagging knee injury will never be a shut down corner again. When he did have those skills we ran the tampa2 which never fully took advantage of them. I think Florence and McKelvin are our best man corners.

McKelvin could be great in time...but he is no where near an elite CB yet. McGee has proven through his play on the field this season that he is by far the best CB on the roster. JMO
