  1. Apparently you didnt get the message that Fitz is the current board hero (see formerly: Fred Jackson) and can do no wrong. Therefore it MUST have been ENTIRELY Lee Evans's fault. Who, coincidentally, is now the current board goat because we have another good WR in Stevie Johnson, and Bills fans can only stand one good player at any position.

Get on board to run Lee out of town, while there are still seats left on the bus!

I'm in!! We'll pool our money and purchase billboard space around the city!!

  2. Well said Jdubs!!

It'd be crazy not to be behind Fitz.

And Luck, looks like the real deal, but moot point. We will not be drafting high enough to take Luck anyway. time to move on.

How bout some of those top D-linemen?

I'm glad you brought that up. I would very much like to see them draft Robert Quinn DE form UNC. The guy is an absolute monster. Seriously, watch some film on this guy and you will be sold. He's big and athletic enough to play either DE or OLB in the 3-4. The guy reminds me a lot of Julius Peppers. Sick!! If he had not been suspended this season for a STUPID NCAA violation, he would be a sure-fire top five pick.

  3. You are 100% correct on that INT. That is typical of Evans and so frustrating at the same time. The guy has a lot of talent and can be an all round WR. Until he runs routes over the middle and comes back to the ball and fights for the ball, he will never be in the same league as Andre Reed or Eric Moulds.

I noticed during the Steelers game (which I turned to during a commercial), they commented that Tomlin needles Wallace by calling him a "one trick pony" to try to get more out of him. That aptly describes Lee Evans.

You all are crazy to blame that interception on Lee Evans. Was I the only one who was actually watching the game?? Fitz stared the route down and TOTALLY telegraphed the pass. Never should have thrown the ball. Lee Evans never had a chance to break up the play, as the DB read fitz's eyes and jumped the route. Are you all serious!?

  4. Nick Fairley is real freaking good. He'd be the Bill's version of Richard Seymour on their march back to the promise land. He eats lineman and QBs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Yeah, Fairley is a monster, and would be a great addition to this defense. I also like Marcel Dareus. A lot of people thing pass rushing OLB should be our top priority, but I just don't see us taking one with our first round pick (assuming we are picking in the top 5). I definitely think beefing up our D-line is the top priority.

  5. You can spend your time looking backwards or forwards. I see no point to this thread. The reality is what we have and where we are and judging the 2010 draft right now is folly.

Thanks for the feedback....troll. This thread was created for entertainment purposes only. I was not attempting to judge the 2010 draft, as I very clearly stated in the OP. For me, it was an interesting idea to "re-visit" the draft based upon what we know now about the 2010 draft prospects. I though it might create some interesting discussion...sorry for having wasted your time. So, in the future, if you do not have anything constructive to add to the discussion....then move on to a different thread or create your own.

  6. While I agree hindsight is 20/20, sometimes foresight is too. It really infuriates me when things like this is brought up bc I know that I along with many others wanted Bulaga long before draft day. He was pretty obviously a great prospect and a great fit for Buffalo and what we needed. Now its all “O what could have been if only we had known” Well…. WE DID KNOW!!!! I blame the front office for not adding him like they should have, along with Orakpo/Ngata/Mangold – all of whom were not hindsight picks at all. All of them were pretty blatantly the correct most obvious choice that a vast majority of fans/writers/bloggers/ESPN analysts would have picked.

The Veldheer guy is tough. I could not imagine trying to predict how a lower-level college player adjusts to the NFL. I really cannot blame them for missing on this guy the way I blame them for missing on the Orakpos and Ngatas and Mangolds. That said troupe was a reach on draft day and hasn’t really shown anything to make us think, in hindsight, that he wasn’t a reach. Looking like another fail by the scouts.

Rd 3 I still think John Jerry is/was the right pick, both in hindsight and foresight. He was taken by the Fish immediately after us taking Carrington and has started every game he has been healthy for (apparently he has some mystery illness and he lost a lot of weight and strength). Bowman had some real character issues which is why he fell to the 3rd. Carrington tho cant even make the active roster for a team with the worst DL in the league. In hindsight John Jerry is still a good pick, so is Bowman – But that cant be said about Carrington.

No surprise its looking like the scouts laid a huge egg again. I’ll give it another year before harping on it too much

It's obvious that there have been many glaring "whiffs" by our front office guys. I was scratching my head when we selected Maybin (I wanted Cushing), and I was a dumbfounded when we took Spiller with the number 9 pick. I was not completely sold on Bulaga at #9, however, and was hoping that we would trade down to acquire additional picks. What's more interesting to me are these late-round guys, or small-school prospects, for which none of us had the foresight to predict their success in the NFL.

  7. I watched a good chunk of the Raider/Chiefs game. I thought that Veldheer played very well at LT. We really didn't have an opportunity to take him in the second round because the Raiders drafted ahead of us. The same issue applied with our not drafting Bulaga. Where we drafted in the first round Bulaga would not have been good value. The Bills still have some work to upgrade the OL but in the long run Spiller is going to be a playmaker for us.

If you go back on any draft you can always say we should have taken this player over that player. The fairest way to evaluate your draft is to ask if the player taken was worth taking at the spot you took him.

Was Troup or Carrington good value at where they were taken? With Troup I'm not sure. With Carrington I'm get very queasy about that pick.

Veldheer was taken with the Raider's 3rd round pick (#5) so he would have been there for us in round 2. If I recall correctly, Troup was considered a reach, but Carrington was considered a value in the third round. According to some draft pundits, Carrington was the most impressive defensive player at the senior bowl. I still like him a lot, he just needs some work on his technique.

  8. There have been a lot of threads on this message board which have criticized the front office for the 2010 draft class. While I think it's unfair to evaluate a draft class during the first season, I thought it would be fun to look back (knowing what we know now) and re-draft. I only kept one of the Bills' picks. Let me know what you think (please be nice  ), and feel free to post your "hind sight" 2010 draft classes.

Round 1: Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa

-Besides getting abused by Cameron Wake in week 6, Bulaga's play has improved considerably in past weeks. He has earned much praise from around the league, and has solidified himself as the Packer's starting RT moving forward. He also has the versatility to play guard if the Bills decided to move Wood to Center.

Round 2: Jared Veldheer OT Hillsdale

-The Raiders started him at center early on in the season, but since he has moved to starting LT and has been a dominant force. He is big (6'8" - 315), athletic, and excels at both pass protection and run blocking. Many people attribute the success of the Raider's running game to his play at LT.

Round 3: NaVorro Bowman LB Penn State

-He has played well for the 49ers, and has seen an increase amount of playing time next to all-world LB Patrick Willis.

Round 4: Aaron Hernandez TE Miami

    - This one's a no-brainer.

Round 5: Cam Thomas NT UNC

    - The Bills fill their need for a space-eating 3-4 NT in the fifth round with the addition of Thomas. Right now, he is buried in the San Diego depth chart, but could do a good job next to Kyle Williams given his size and decent athleticism. Much better value IMO than Troup in the second round.

Round 6 (pick 1): Arthur Moats DE/LB James Madison

    - I like Moats, and I feel like he has great potential. That's about all I have to say about him.

Round 6 (pick 2): Ted Larsen C/G NC State

    - Originally drafted by the Pats, he was picked up off waivers by Tampa Bay before the start of the season. Due to injuries, he was thrust into the starting line-up at left guard, and has played very well. Many speculate that he has won the starting job over veteran Jeremy Zuttah. He would add some good depth to the interior of our offensive line.

Round 7 (pick 1): Brandon Deaderick DE Alabama

    - Selected in the 7th round by the Pats, he was placed on the inactive list for the first three weeks of the season. He has been in the starting line-up for the past three weeks, however, and has contributed to the Pats improved defensive front. He has been praised for his stout play against the run. Reportedly, he possesses decent athleticism for his size (6'4" - 315), and could play DE in the 3-4 and DT in the 4-3.

Round 7 (pick 2): LaGarrette Blount RB Oregon

    - The guy carries the football like a man possessed. He has decent speed and deceptiveness for a RB his size. I say screw the character issues...we need some nasty players on this team.

  9. Yes, I admit I have no clue the extent of McGee's injury. I have no idea of how much pain he is in. With that said, it's my belief that McGee is soft. He's gotten nicked up a lot the past few seasons and he clearly can not play through or with pain. He's now practiced back to back weeks, last week limited and this week fully, and once again he won't be suiting up today. Missing McGee is a huge problem as it drives Florences playtime way up and he is terrible. When talking to the media on Wednesday you could tell McGee was bracing reporters on the fact that he probably won't play this week, without actually saying it. I said it when it was first reported that McGee got hurt and I'll say it again......it would not surprise me to see the team put him on IR.

I know our secondary has been seen as a stength recently, but it's clear that it's becoming a weakness. McKelvin is okay, but not what you would have wanted out of a high 1st round pick. Brandon Flowers, who i liked more coming out, is becoming a shutdown corner in KC, and McKelvin is average at best. Florence is bad, really bad, IMO. McGee, can't stay healthy and is aging. Whitner is okay in run support and very below average in pass coverage. I'm not liking our situation at CB at all moving forward.

I think it's a bit unfair to say that our secondary has become a weakness on this team. While our safety play has left much to be desired, our corner play has not been all that bad. I think the "subpar" performance by our secondary is more of a reflection of how bad our run defense is. The corners and safeties are relied upon more in run support, and thus they are more apt to get burned in coverage.

I do agree, however, that McGee is soft. He always seems to be limping around with nagging injuries. I think we have enough depth in our secondary that we could trade him in the offseason. He has built up enough of a reputation around the league to be worth something on the market. If we bundled McGee and maybe our fourth round pick from Seattle, perhaps we could get a late-second or an early third round pick for him. IMO...we have enough depth at CB that we wouldn't miss him much. Also, with the addition of Spiller, we don't use him on special teams anymore.

I'm for an all-out roster purge. Get as much compensation as we possibly can, and then dump the rest of the dead weight....starting with Kelsay, McCargo, and Maybin.

  10. There is a poll on Rochester DC about who would you like at QB next year and Brohm is leading :oops::blink: Are you friggin kidding me Fitz is way better than Brom and if he continues his play this way he will be the franchise. Any one voting for Brohm is an idiot :wallbash::thumbdown:<_<<_<:censored:

    http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20101029/SPORTS03/10290332/tbd

I don't think we have enough evidence to say that Brohm is better than Fitz or vice versa. I agree, however, that given Fitz's recent performance, the D & C poll findings are ridiculous. Furthermore, the person who created the poll is an idiot.

  11. Interesting.

You can't really badmouth TO's skill level considering the monster numbers he is putting up this year in Cincinnati. I agree with you in that TO's performance last year was likely an aberration, and was more more due to the offense he was playing in.

It's amazing, the impact that a good scheme and good coaching can have on a player's performance.

  12. It takes a brave, bold man to make a prediction that goes around the Bills around here. Just be prepared for a firestorm if your prediction doesn't turn out to be correct.

NaPolian....actually I was shocked to discover that this thread was not created by you, as you seem to be the "king of the trolls" on this message board. I actually enjoy your threads, however, as they make for interesting, and sometimes heated, discussion.

    No disrespect intended. Just sayin....

My prediction, for what it's worth....Chiefs 34 Bills 24. Another respectable offensive performance pauperized by our soft defense and inept defensive coaching. The Fitz train keeps rollin!!!

  13. You smile over losses?

Nelson losing that game is a positive thing, this is a positive thread. The team only gets better if it can obtain an elite-level franchise QB, and this game was another step in that direction. If you smile at losses and smile at wins, you might as well just accept that losing this year helps the team in the future, because it does.

Yes, when my favorite team is winless and hasn't shown a glimpse of progress over the first five games, I get excited when I see our quarterback throw for over 350 yards. Is that so terrible? We played a very good football team tough, on the road, and there is no cause for optimism? I have accepted that losing this year will benefit this team in the future, but I refuse to approach every week with the hope that we get smeared all over the field. That is a "loserish" mentality.

You think this is a positive thread? Chiding one of our offensive players for being "the MVP" because he had the ball stripped out of his hands by Ray Lewis at the end of the game....that's positive? That's unnecessarily sarcastic and negative if you ask me. Go ahead and hope that the Bills go 0-16 this season....you are not a real fan.

  14. If you think other teams aren't going to be looking QB after this season, you are mistaken.

    Satan  ?

Jeez...I am getting so tired of reading your gloom and doom threads. The Bills actually put together a half-way decent game, giving the fans something to smile about, and you immediately post a negative thread about Shawn Nelson losing the game for us. Reading your posts make me want to go find a ledge somewhere and take a swan dive into the pavement. Please do all of us a favor. Throw your computer out the window, and go back to torturing animals or whatever it is you do when you are not spreading filth on the message boards. You should be ashamed of yourself.

  15. I extend Florence and Puz. Florence has been solid for us and I slide Puz to his more natural LOLB position. I think Scott or Wilson can do just as much as Whitner on the field, if not more.

Agreed, extend poz and move him to OLB. Then draft a stud MLB that can actually shed blocks and effectively stop the run.

Extend Florence, and then trade Terrence McGee to the highest bidder. He must have some value on the trade market, and we have a great deal of depth at CB. Get rid of him before he loses his value, and build through the draft (alla the pats).

Get rid of Whitner any way possible. Package him in a trade or just release him. I have seen enough of him to realize that he sucks in coverage and is inconsistent playing the run. George Wilson is a better option in the interim.

  16. You are correct...there are exceptions to my point. The Rams are a good example of this, as they have improved tremendously, it seems, just by the addition of Sam Bradford. Reverting to my main point, however, it is unfair to judge a draft class after just 5 games!! Particularly when the young players are being drafted by the "train wreck" that is the Buffalo Bills organization.

The addition of an excellent QB may be the catalyst that this team needs, and that is likely to happen via the 2011 draft. A good QB, coupled with some upgrades along the offensive line and defensive front 7, and we could have a much improved team next season. Then, you begin to see these rookies play up to their potential. Certainly, Spiller will flourish once he is given some room to run (and the carries). Torell Troup, given some help from his supporting cast, begins to demonstrate the run stopping ability that he was drafted for. Also, now with a good QB who has some time to throw, Evans, Parrish, Johnson, and our rookies Marcus Easley and David Nelson are able to make some big plays.

It's all relative I guess....I'm just not ready to throw in the towel. Not yet. I was a Bills fan back when they sucked, and I will continue to support them and remain optimistic despite their current suckitude.

  17. I hear what you are saying.

But, this sort of thinking is outmoded in today's NFL. There are beaucoup counter-examples of rookies contributing to their teams very early in their careers over the last several seasons.

The NFL has changed. Players' careers are shorter than they have ever been. Teams use the draft to re-load their rosters every year. Even perennially solid teams like the Patriots, Colts, and Chargers re-load their line-ups through the draft. Not every rookie may produce at a superstar level, obviously, but many teams get good production out of many rookies and 2nd year players.

True, but you must realize that many of these rookies who are "immediate impact players" are drafted by teams who already have a solid core of players to build around. Just look at the teams you mentioned...the Pats, Colts, and Chargers. These teams already have solid players in place which makes it easier for a rookie to make the transition, and thereby flourish in the NFL. They do not have to rebuild....they just reload. Unfortunately, players who are drafted by the Bills do not have this same luxury.

  18. Well, the draft class in its entirety isn't producing anything. Torbor just got benched.

How about the coaching decision? The staff is knocking it out of the park so far.

But why limit ourselves simply to moves Nix did make, which were minimal and vacuous in effect. How about the non-moves, like putting all his eggs in the Trent Edwards basket. Thinking they could switch to a 3-4 defense without the players. Riding the "3 backs" propaganda express and then just taking a 4th rounder because any old draft pick is just good as another and it's hard to remember all those phone numbers in the NFL.

In all fairness to the current decision makers, it is not fair to judge the 2010 draft class after only 5 games. Do you actually think that Buddy and Company were drafting players with the intention of making the playoffs this year? This is a work in progress, and they selected players who fit into their master plan. While I don't necessarily agree with all of the picks (i.e., reached on Troup, waited to long to address OT, etc...), I think they did a decent job adding players who will fit into the "rebuilding stage" of this franchise.

Rookies who excel in their first year are the exception to the rule. Typically it takes some time for these players to develop.

What I do agree with in this post is the "non-moves" during the free agency periods. Really!! They we only able to get a 4th and a conditional pick for Lynch? Their answer to our offensive line woes was picking up Cornell Green? Why didn't they add a veteran QB (i.e., Mark Brunell) in the offseason? These are the things that make me disgruntled, and before this season I was relatively gruntled.

  19. It's tough to be the captain of a sinking ship. I think it's a bit premature to call Buddy, Chan, & company a failure. They inherited a decade of poor personnel decisions, and are in the process of switching offensive and defensive paradigms without the proper personnel. Even if Bill Cowher was hired as head coach, and Jesus himself as the new GM, I still think fan expectations for this year's team would be tempered. Give them some time.

Oh, and by the way, to say that Dick Jauron  is looking good right now is just plane silly. Worst head coach ever IMO.

  20. True enough, Ramius, but if that chance yields a Ryan Leaf, it sets you back more than being in that 5-7 win range does, IMO.

As an aside, there was an interesting recent SI article about the Lions and Rams as teams that have been in that top 5 realm for awhile. They are paying Peyton Manning money to very unproven guys and being asked to do this on a yearly basis. It might work out with good drafting, but if it doesn't, being up at the top of the draft can be crippling. That's a good reason for the rookie wage scale to change with this next CBA.

You can't win if you don't have a horse in the race buddy!! Yeah, there is a chance that a sure fire franchise QB pick could yield a dud like Ryan Leaf, but if "the guy" is there you need to take a chance on him. Ultimately, it all comes down to our talent evaluators (scary prospect I know). If that franchise QB is not there, then you go with the best player at a position of need (i.e., 3-4 DE).

    Andrew Luck or bust!!!
