  1. Wow....you just beat me to the punch on this one! I'm just gonna go ahead and state the obvious. It seems that this news sends A.J. Green's stock through the roof. Perhaps teams that covet a game-changing wide receiver might have some added motivation to move up a few spots to draft him. This, potentially, could be good news for the Bills. Teams I could see trying to move up would be Cleveland, San Francisco, Washington, & St. Louis.

  2. I was invited on the field to watch pregame warmups a couple years ago. Hardy was suited up. Man he was an imposing looking specimen out there. Just a giant tall, sleek looking guy. I was in awe of his size. I gotta believe if he had any motivation or determination...he could've been something.

More like scrawny? I saw him up close at training camp, and it seemed like a stiff breeze might have sent him tumbling across the field. His legs looked like two baseball bats. LOL!!

  3. He's surprisingly agile and quick for a man of his size. Incredibly strong. I see him as being the 2nd best defensive player in this draft. If you get a chance, watch some video from Alabama's bowl game. He was completely DOMINANT in every aspect of the defensive game.

i could definitely see the bills drafting Peterson this draft. it seems as if the bills always through a curveball for their first pick and this would be an example. however, peterson is skilled and would make an impact in the nfl so im not totally down on this pick if he was selected by us.

    thoughts?

I would not run screaming for the hills, but I certainly would not be happy with this pick. He is a talented defensive back (might be better suited at Safety than cornerback), and an exceptional special teams player. I agree that the Bills tend to do some strange things with their first rounders, often leaving us fans scratching our heads, but I am hoping that Buddy & Co. finally make a logical decision this year in drafting the best available defensive lineman (1. Fairley 2. Dareus 3. Bowers...IMO). Hopefully, as speculated by many, Denver will take Peterson with the #2 pick.

  5. Miller is the only NFL talent graduating. They have underclassmen with potential. Jeff Fuller (son of the 49ers Jeff Fuller) is a great receiver, on par with A.J. Green and Julio Jones. He would be a steal if he declares. Uses his body very well to screen off defenders. Whenever A&M needed a 1st down, Fuller was their guy. He handled Patrick Peterson from LSU pretty well in the Cotton Bowl.

I have been really impressed by Fuller. He did a really nice job against Patrick Peterson. Reminds me a lot of Eric Moulds the way he uses his size and bulk to screen off defenders.

  6. What I have seen of Von Miller is that his motor is not always going ... when he wants to make plays he seems to increse his intensity but frequently he is sitting back if a "big play" is not within sight.

I frankly would be worried about picking him up with the #3 pick.

I agree with this. While watching the bowl game versus LSU, Von seemed to consistently give up on plays which were slightly out of his range. He did not consistently play until the whistle, and quite frankly, looked lazy at times. He clearly has the speed to get around the edge and rush the passer (although this will likely be more challenging in the NFL), but I have serious questions about him in run support. Seems like he would be easily "handled" by opposing offensive tackles, Full Backs, Tight Ends, etc... His challenges versus the run were also very evident during the LSU game.

I just can't see him as a top 5 pick. There are very similar prospects such as Dontay Moch who will likely be available in the 2nd-3rd round range.

  7. Are you kidding me? He clearly got hurt and never missed a play. And what a loser for only accounting for 329 yards & 2 tds to beat the number 2 team in the country for a national championship after a month layoff.

Cam Newton is a little ho. He will never make it in the NFL because he will need to change his tampon every time he takes a decent hit from a blitzing linebacker or defensive back.

  8. Perhaps another element of character, this time in the form of toughness and grit. I wasn't all that impressed with Cam wincing in pain, limping around, and carrying on like he was playing on a broken foot or something. He got hurt during the game, not injured, SUCK IT UP!! You're leading your team in the National Championship game for christ's sake!! Lead by example and show some toughness.

My opinion of him changed greatly after last night. He may have all the athletic talent in the world, but I say no thanks on Cam.

  9. Looked OK but is he any better than Brown? I wouldn't draft any QBs unless Gabbert falls to the 5th or Mallett to the fourth. This year needs to be about Defense and OL/TE.

If either Gabbert or Mallett fell to our pick in the second round, I'm fairly confident that Buddy & Co. would pull the trigger on that one. Not saying that I think we need to draft a QB that high (or at all for that matter), but based on value AND need, I think they would almost have to make that pick.

  10. I think that it is very possible that all four of the top defensive players will be on the draft board when we select at number three. Carolina was set on Andrew Luck, especially after the way Jimmy Clausen performed this year. Since Luck is not declaring there is a very good chance that the Panthers select AJ Green with the first overall pick. Steve Smiths performace continues to decline and they need a deep threat in the passing game. Secondly, there is a strong chance that the Denver Broncos go with Patrick Peterson. Champ Bailey has expressed that he is not interested in staying with the Broncos and is looking to transition to safety in attempts to prolong his NFL career. If this scenario takes place then we will have our choice of Nick Fairley, Da'Quan Bowers, Marcell Dareus, or Robert Quinn.

It is not inconceivable that the Panthers could draft AJ Green with the first pick in the draft. I suspect, however, that they will either go with the sexiest defensive lineman available (Bowers or Fairley), or they will draft Cam Newton (a new coaching regime loves a new QB). I agree that there is a strong possibility that the Broncos will draft Peterson, as he could likely be the heir apparent to Champ Bailey. I am hoping that either Fairley or Marcel Dareus slips to us at the #3 spot. Either one of those players will provide a definite boost to our defense.

  11. I was listening this morning to a couple of different shows on the ESPN network and can't remember which show it was but i heard that Kevin Kolb said that he wanted to be a starter on a team not a back up . One of the announcers said that he may put pressure on the Eagles to trade him .

With that and the history of all of the people going from the Bills to the Eagles in past years (Peters , April , Jauron , Bell) i started thinking about some things that had been brought up on BB.com .

On the Thurman Thomas show interview with Chan Gailey i think it was there was mention made of the log jam at WR the Bills may have with Roscoe , Evans , Easley all coming back off injury & then Jones , Nelson , Roosevelt all stepping up and making plays plus the others that managed to stay healthy .

I for one this year have been on the wagon not only because of Lee Evans lack of production but large contract to see if we might be able to trade him for a position that may be in need of up grade or look to the future .

Then i heard what they were saying about Kolb on ESPN & thought BINGO !! the Eagles could use another WR & it's a place that Evans would have a chance to go to the play offs a validate his career & Kolb when put on the field has done some great things !

I don't really like the idea of having to put Fitz on as a back up again seeing the intangibles that he brings to the team but even Gailey himself said that he can't see Fitz being in a different role than our starting QB next year but doesn't rule out any possibilities .

I think it would be better served to have some one a bit more proven in the NFL brought in rather than a rookie . Because let's face it after the last game i think Brohms future in Buffalo is all but over . So we'll have to bring in some one else anyway .

Well there it is in a nut shell , i thought i would put it out there & see if you all thought that the trade would be of equal value for both teams with all considered and just what your thoughts were .

So lay it on me good or bad !! I can take i have to i'm a BIlls fan 4 life !! GO BILLS !!!!

I believe the Eagles are pretty well set at WR with Jackson, Maclin, and Avant. I am fairly certain, however, that the Eagles are in need of some help at cornerback. Perhaps we could offer up Terrence McGee, but I doubt that McGee alone would be sufficient to land a guy like Kevin Kolb. We would probably have to package McGee with one or more draft picks......so.....no thanks.

  12. I prefer to stay 4-3 but if we are going 3-4 then I think we need to do some FA shopping/trading for a true NT.

That Sioli guy from Miami Chan raved about and he did handle Wood in our matchup. But the Ferguson guy he replaced or Shawn Rodgers should be available. Abrau Franklin was tagged last year too. Im sure there are other guys I dont know about too. Come on Buddy drink a rebd bull and dont sleep through free agency please

What about the guy we drafted in the 2nd round last year, Torell Troup, are we giving up on him already? Oh that's right...he's a bust just like Spiller and Carrington. Maybe we can package all three of them in a trade with Cleveland for Shawn Rodgers

  13. Cam Newton is out of this world good. :thumbdown:Now that Luck is out he's gonna go #1. If he's there at 3, they gotta snatch him up. Or trade him for a whole bunch of picks . Either way the dude is great.

I hope he goes first overall to Carolina. That way there is absolutely no way he ends up in buffalo. Fairley or Dareus please!

  14. 1. Nick Fairley DT Auburn

Fairley is a freaking beast. If you've watched Auburn at all this year you know what I'm talking about. The guy is great against the run (he has literally body slammed some RBs this year) but can also get to the QB with either his brute strength or an assortment of pass rush moves. He could play 3-4 DE and move inside and play DT next to KW in our 4 man fronts (I'm assuming we will be running our hybrid 3-4/4-3 next year). Nobody is a sure thing but this guy seems pretty close. On the downside he does lose his cool sometimes and a lot of people consider him a dirty player. I think he would bring some much needed attitude and skill to our defensive front.

    2. Aldon Smith DE Mizzou

Yeah this is a homer pick but its a legit one. Word around Columbia, MO is Aldon Smith will be declaring for the 2011 draft. This guy is a freak, he's a poor man's Bowers as he isn't quite as stout against the run but is every bit of the pass rusher Bowers is (thats right I just said that). Again, I'm assuming we are going to continue to run a hybrid defense and he would add some much needed pass rush in passing situations. Aldon was slowed this year by fracturing his tibia but came back after three games and is now 100% healthy. If he were to stay in school he could potentially be a top 10 pick in 2012. Even so its very possible after the combine he'll vault into the second half of the first round but for now I think there is a chance he'll be around in the second and could be a huge pick for the Bills.

Here is what draftcountdown.com's Scott Wright wrote about Smith:

    3. Colin McCarthy ILB Miami

McCarthy is a tackling machine who is very stout in the Middle and plays with great instincts. He's not a great athlete but he should be one of the safer picks at LB in this years draft. The guy makes up for a lot of his athletic short-comings with his great instincts. Kind of reminds me of Brandon Spikes who the Pats drafted last year.

    4. Rashad Carmichael CB Va Tech

Super Athletic corner with great ball skills. Can lose focus at times.

    4. John Moffit OG Wisc

Big Strong Guard who has had a great year blocking for Wisconsin's potent rushing attack. Could possibly move outside to RT but will more than likely compete for the RG spot or at worst provide great depth to line.

    5. Roy Helu RB Neb

Tough Runner with good power and burst. Doesn't have elite speed but would be good insurance policy if something were to happen to Fred.

    6.Chris Hairston OT Clemson

Athletic enough to play either Tackle position. Probably better suited for RT, has had some knee problems.

    7. Andre Smith TE Va Tech

Good Blocking TE with some athletic ability.

    Flame Away!

Love the Fairley, Carmichael, & Moffit picks....the rest....meh?

One thing about the Moffit pick though....doesn't he play left guard? How difficult would it be for him to transition to RG? I can see his potential to move to RT.

  15. I've seen a lot of talk about DeMarcus Love as an OT option for us in the 2nd. I didn't watch him closely on every play, but it seemed like Heyward got the better of him a few times, and Mallet was often under pressure. Love also had one false start. One interesting thing - he moved back and forth from LT to RT. I thought he was off the field a couple of times and then realized he had moved to the right side. Moving a tackle from side to side is something I haven't noticed very often.

You know...for some reason I didn't make the connection until reading your post. Yeah, DeMarcus Love got absolutely abused by Cam Heyward last night. Don't know if Love just had a bad night, or if Cam just had a terrific night. Probably a little of both. I have watched several Arkansas games this season, and have always been impressed with Love's play. I also found it a bit "curious" that he was shifted back and forth from the left side to the right side. Wonder why this was done?

  16. That's funny...I had almost the opposite impression. While I wasn't overly impressed with Mallett, he really does throw a nice ball. I can't remember exactly how many balls were dropped by his receivers, but it was pretty ugly. One costly drop in particular was on the 1st or 2nd play of the game...it was a 20-30 yard frozen rope from Mallett that hit the receiver right on the hands...should have been a TD.

One negative I noticed about Mallett was that, when he was under pressure (which was most of the game), he tends to throw the ball off his back foot. Seems that he really isn't comfortable hanging in the pocket and making a good throw when he knows he's going to take a hit. Saw a few plays where his form was really ugly, and his passes on those plays went right to the receiver's shoe strings.

DJ Williams didn't really impress me at all. Granted, he did catch a TD pass, and showed great effort to get the ball into the end zone. He is undersized and a horrible blocker. He was often lined up on the left side to help the LT with Cam Heyward, and was thrown around like a rag doll. He might be a decent pass receiver and a good character guy, but IMO he has a long way to go before he is a good TE in the pro's.

BTW...Heyward was a beast last night. Buddy and Chan might want to take a long look at this guy, as he might be available when we pick in the 2nd round.

  17. I have a feeling that Denver will take Patrick Peterson. Especially if Champ Bailey decides to hang up the cleats. There is no way that Carolina does not take luck if he declares. That leaves Buffalo with option to choose the best defensive player on the board. Hello Marcel Dareus or Nick Fairley!!

With regard to the OP....I don't think there are any advantages to picking 3rd as opposed to picking 2nd overall. Ralph will be able to pay a little less money than he would to the 2nd overall pick, but who really cares about that besides ol' Ralphie?

  18. So cut cut cut.

Cut Evans, cut Stroud... So we can use the money elsewhere. HAHAHAHAH... We really broke the bank last year. Oh wait.

Bills have whacked money and dumped salary by getting rid of players. Name the big time player we brought in to replace any of the guys we got rid of? The Bills were 25 million under the supposed cap. Do you think the Bills are going to open the check book up and sign some players? NO! Keep dreaming. It is not going to happen. So wave good bye to Donte Whitner. 25 years old. Because why? Because "WE" can save 2 million dollars that we wont spend anywhere else. Is Whitner amazing? No. Is he solid. Yes. How many holes do the fans want to create? This strategy of creating holes by dumping players has worked so well we will be drafting 3rd. congrats! So yeah. Lets cut Evans, let Donte leave... So we can draft a defensive back or Wide Receiver. Still have the same crap front 7 and the same crap offensive line. Still have the same mediocre QB. But yeah. Lets whack away and cut the few half decent players we have. We have so many to begin with. Oh wait. Thats right. New England and the Jets just embarassed us. Espn announcers laughing at us for that performance yesterday on SportCenter. They didnt need Sanchez. They didnt need Sanchez to play becasue they knew their backups would destroy the Buffalo Bills.

So the saving money to spend later strategy is a joke. Cheer for another team that actually employs that strategy if you are going to keep saying I would rather save the money. First of all. It is not your money. Is Ralph going to write you a check to go buy some drapes at Walmart? No. Sorry.. Is Ralph going to lower your tix prices because he spent less? Nope. Saved 25 million and had you guys cheering him on.

So can we leave Lee Evans alone and maybe embrace Donte Whitner. Unline most of the rest of the players in the NFL they actually want to play in Buffalo. They are actually wanting to stay and try and right the ship. They are not the Superstars that you want them to be. They are good football players and like I mentioned. We dont have very many good football players.

First of all...I don't remember reading any posts that suggested we cut Lee Evans. There has been some trade speculation, but no talk of cutting him to my knowledge. Personally, I would entertain any trade offers at this point, regardless of the player. The Whitner issue is a different story. He has been an average player in the NFL, and wants to be paid like he is one of the better safeties in the league. If he is not willing to be a little more realistic with his asking price, then we have George Wilson waiting in the wings to take over his position. I don't see much of a drop-off in talent there. So you can "embrace" all of the players that you want. I will be in favor of cutting/trading any player who does not fit into our future plans.

Keep Kelsay. He's better than the guys behind him, cut the guys behind him, and sign/draft a guy to put in front of him.

You people wanting to get rid of all of our ok players instead of all of our bad players are absolutely nutty.

Keep the solid guys, get rid of the bad guys, put good guys in front of the solid guys. Depth is very important.

Dude...Kelsey is terrible. Horrible in coverage, horrible against the run, cannot shed blocks. Did you actually watch him play this season? We can bring in players via free agency or the draft to add depth to our linebacker corps. Why keep the dead weight?

  19. While I've bashed Kelsay numerous times over the years, he's a far better player at DE than he was in experiment to have him play OLB. Overpaid? Maybe, but not one to be cut unless half the roster or more is let go, and that would be capitulation.

Kelsey was a horrible 3-4 OLB, and was only an average 4-3 DE (let's be honest). He's a good locker room guy, but that alone will not help us to improve the league's worst rush defense. If we stick with the 3-4 defense, he has no place being on this team.

If I'm not mistaken, his huge contract did not include a lot of guaranteed money (around 2 million I believe), so cutting him would not be a financial disaster for the Bills.

  20. but if you look at the teams drafting behind us: Cinci will be looking for a QB depending on how they handle palmer. DC will be looking for a QB if they cut mcnabb (most likely will happen) arizona is looking for a QB so is San Fran and Tennessee. I think it would be too risky is we waited to long. Because the QB with possibly enough talent to help us are Newton Luck Locker maybe mallet and maybe moore in 2012.... But if Luck is taken... Newton is our only hope

That's a sad statement. If the teams picking behind us really covet Newton...I say let's trade down with the highest bidder. Certainly Washington would be a good candidate given their track record.
