GDT: Bills vs. Jets 1st Half Thread

Yep. In a nutshell, that was EJ. Gross -
If Lynn called passes on every down and the Manuel went 64/64 for 625 yards and 6 touchdowns, I would still want him to be off the team.

Why Isn't This An Option? And, I hate to say it...
dubs replied to Chargin' Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't love Taylor, but right now I think he's the best option for the Bills. I hope that changes. But I do think there is reason to believe TT can be better. The offense was pretty good this year. Passing stats were bad, but how much was due to Bills focusing on the running game and how much due to TT's limitations. Hard to say. Both were factors. TT is unconventional for sure, we have to look at his valuable skills that don't show up in the passing stats if we also hold him accountable for the crap numbers. I think I'd like to see them keep TT, let EJ go, bring in a capable backup, continue to groom Cardale, and try and find a diamond in the rough in the draft. with that in mind, I think it makes sense to sit TT this week. He blows out a knee and is out a year and the whole thing is screwed. -

Haha. I heard it at the time and was thinking to myself, what the hell is Murph doing? This caller sounds like a young boy or girl. Was half listening so figured I must have misheard. Guess not. Hah. Too funny. -

Russia would sabotage the Pats and Bills would win the Super Bowl -
I am totally torn on this. On one hand, I am totally unsatisfied with things that I would attribute to the coach. Things like plays coming in late, confusion on defense, stupid challenges (minor) and occasional punts when I would want to see us go for it. Maybe most frustrating is what seems to be the lack of ability to adjust on the fly in game. The ability to make good adjustments after the other team does. With all that said, I am not sure we would get much better if we hired someone else. The league is littered with retreads. I think more than anything we have to solve the QB issue, and I am not sure a new coach would solve it. Ideally, TT figures out how to read defenses and becomes decisive. That's unlikely, so while I think TT is ok, we need to find a new direction there. If we did, then all of a sudden Rex probably becomes a good coach again.

MAKE THE BILLS GREAT AGAIN -
Ironically, the Bills beating Miami might be the second toughest ask. That and the combined ask of all the factors going right. Bills effed it up with the losses at Miami when winning, the gross showing in Baltimore, losing to the Jets, and imploding against the Raiders. Also not stuffing it in against the Seahawks. Chances were definitely there.
-
I was looking for what the exact scenario was, thanks. When I put this in the playoff simulator on ESPN, it didn't work though. It still had Miami getting in as the 9-7 team, only tied with the Bills at 9-7. Head to head would be a wash, obviously. I think division and conference records would be the same (3-3, 6-6). Maybe ESPN is wrong
-
I hear you, don't disagree. But Gronk is a problem for every team in the league. That's why he'd be an HOFer if he stayed healthy. I'm way more concerned about what we can do that will be effective against every team, not just the Pats. That begins and ends with a better QB situation, IMHO. But you're point is well taken. If we did shut down Gronk, let's say, Brady would just find one of any other option to beat us. That's my point about QB
-
The Bills problem is really simple. We don't have a good QB, haven't had one in ages and play in the same division with an all time great QB/Coach. So we have no chance at a division title and usually start the year with two division/conference losses as we try for a Wild Card. In a league where every win matters, it's not hard to see how this drought has happened.

No quick easy fixes unfortunately. That's what's gotten the Bills into this mess. Gotta draft at least one. Maybe two. Worked out pretty well for the Redskins. In fact, I think the Bills best bet is to get a guy like Cousins in the early to middle rounds (not first hopefully not second). A guy who maybe has something that holds him back from a super high grade (height, or elite arm strength) but is smart, accurate, has a quick release, and is fairly mobile. I think that's the recipe for the Bills. Who that is, I have no idea. But that's the model I'd follow. I believe QBs get overvalued on size and strength metrics and undervalued on the less tangible characteristics.

I've seen in three times. It had to be behind woods because the defender was right in front of him. Woods stopped, turned the right way, and it went through his arms. -

It was a perfect throw. Woods needs to make that. -

I'm not sure I've ever seen a worse third and long defense in my life. It's uncanny. -
It can happen. I wouldn't bet a dollar on it, but if the Bills can win out they have a pretty decent chance to get in. The Bronco's last 4 games are brutal. With nothing at QB, they can lose two and probably will be an underdog in at least two of their last four games, maybe 3. @Tennessee New England @KC Oakland

Draft Day II
-
If we had to pick one game to lose, it's probably the Browns that would be best for our chances. Best all the other teams that are in the hunt that we play and improve our strength of win tiebreaker as much as possible (if that's a metric, I think it is but not positive) Edit: yes it is. 4th tiebreaker Head-to-head, if applicable. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four. Strength of victory. Strength of schedule. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. Best net points in conference games. Best net points in all games. Best net touchdowns in all games. Coin toss.
