ROCKPILE REVIEW - Bills Roll Over WFT
chris heff replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Josh Allen on 97 yard drive to start second half, “A long drive, it takes the wind out of their sails, for sure,” didn’t he get that wrong? Isn’t it “sail out of their winds”? -
So should I be as worried about Davis Mills as some on this site told me to worry about Taylor Heineke?

So some college kid says he knows about falsified tax returns you think everyone from Long Island cheets on their taxes? Quite the leap. I have lived on Long Island, no one ever told me to pronounce it that way, nor did most Long Islanders pronounce it that way. You may recall that your original premise was that students at SUNY Buffalo from Long Island were attending UB because their “rich parents were too cheep to send them to private schools”. Rich and cheep is an anti-Semitic trope and it has been for centuries. That and your stereotyping pronunciation lead me to the ant-Semitic conclusion, I stand by that. Who is the “them” that I cheerlead? Do you mean “those people”?

Oh no not Fox! -
I lived on Long Island for years, no one ever suggested I pronounce it that way and furthermore most of them didn’t pronounce it that way, even the Italian ones. In the original post that you admittedly didn’t read in its entirety, the poster objected to students from LI attending UB. His premise, as he mocked the accent, was that their rich and cheep parents should send them to private schools. “Rich and cheep” is an anti Semitic trope, centuries old, Shakespeare wrote a whole play about in the sixteenth century and it was probably centuries old then. If the original used that accent and the implied that the students from LI had a horse’s head cut off and put in the Dean’s bed, then he would have been talking about Italians.
-
No not all it depends on where you are. The original poster objects to students from Long Island because their parents are rich and cheep. Rich and cheep is a Jewish stereotype and has been for centuries, the Irish and Italians have their own stereotypes, which is not rich and cheep. When you combine rich and cheep with that particular accent who do you conclude he is writing about?
-
Did you read his entire post? He also says everyone from Long Island is rich and cheep at best that statement is stereotyping at worst it is a racial trope. I lived on Long Island and no not everyone is Jewish, but that particular accent both you and the original poster mimicked would be stereotyping a NYC area Jewish American accent. You took Social Studies in 11th and 12th grade? The Franciscan nuns taught me Social Studies in 5th and 6th grade. If I recall correctly Social Studies combined geography with culture, I don’t remember it ridiculing regional accents.

Granted I just Googled “do downtown stadiums help city economy” not one article or study came up that specifically states that. Plenty that said stadiums no matter where they are don’t really help the economy. One article about new arena in Sacramento has helped downtown, but an arena is different that a stadium.

I haven’t lived in Buffalo for fifty years. I remember when I was was a kid downtown was vibrant. There were restaurants, retail stores, department stores and theaters. Went there a lot, my father’s office was in the Marine Midland Building. It died a slow death starting in the 1960s. In my last few visits we stayed at the Marriott Canal Side. I was shocked (pleasantly so) to see people enjoying the Buffalo River, kids swimming in it. I believe it was cleaned up with public funding. I drove down Fruman (sorry if I got that wrong) on the outer harbor, agin surprised, people enjoying themselves. The middle harbor (don’t know if that’s what it’s called) and the inner harbor need a lot more work, but it could be great. Are any of those factories or grain elevators functioning? If not get rid of them, find some other use. I haven’t been to Orchard Park in years, haven’t been to the stadium in years. I know people are emotionally invested in that location, however it became the location by default. The money, the infrastructure, the emotional attachment is a lot to overcome. If something isn’t growing it’s dying. I fear that if the State, the Pegulas and the community take the path of least resistance it will just maintain the status quo. There are two things people hate, change and the way things are. Success comes from being bold not safe. I’d love to see downtown Buffalo vibrant again for those that love that city, whether that be a resident or a visitor.

Wow Bills Fans, it's been ten years already since....

Didn’t the wheels come off after that? -
Never really was a Kiko fan, you know I left out the one about McCoy throwing a woman off a moving “party bus”, an Eagles fan friend reminded me of that incident, but you keep telling yourself what a great guy McCoy was. Oh and OJ didn’t do it.
-
Yeah McCoy is a swell guy. Who among us hasn’t abused restaurant employees and left a $.20 tip? Going to a strip club with some thugs who get into a fight with off duty cops shows pretty good judgment. Then there was the ex-girlfriend that he couldn’t get rid of who coincidentally gets roughed up and robbed. I think he should go up on the wall.

Did you read the whole article? Addresses that in second to last paragraph. ”Allen, though, hasn’t made entirely right decisions so far. After losing to Pittsburgh in Week 1, he suggested he was struggling with his footwork, and despite rebounding to thrash Miami in Week 2, Allen still committed what Pro Football Focus calls turnover-worthy plays — involving poor ball security or passes that have a strong chance of being intercepted — on a career-high 10.8 percent of his snaps.” -

Any Buffalo Bills bars in Long Island/Hamptons NY????
chris heff replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Out of curiosity I googled sports bars East Hampton, as I suspected nothing out there. A couple of places I know in South Hampton, Fellingham’s Restaurant and Sports Bar, the place is tiny have no idea how many TVs and Southampton Public House, again have no idea how many TVs. I’d call them and ask if they will have Bills game on. There is a Buffalo Wild Wings in Riverhead, they would definitely have the game on. If you look at the schedule Giants play at 1:00, definitely will be on on both places in Southampton, Jets play at 4:00. If these places can show at least two games most likely second game at 1:00 would seem to be Bills vs WFT.
