Well.... first off, welker won't be a huge problem this season since he will be hampered by his injury and should miss some good playing time. And any QB we took was going to take at least one year to groom, and probably more. So there was NO QB that could win for us now in the draft (most likely) so drafting one was very urgant since this QB class was so.... underwelming. People can say we should have drafted clausen in the 2nd round because all these pundits say he is the 2nd best QB in the draft.... well, we have a QB on our roster that was picked in the 2nd round just 2 years ago..... so one would assume he is more developed than clausen with the same upside. So.... not picking a QB until later wasn't a big deal since there really wasn't a good option.
and LT in the 6th? pretty sure we took one in the 5th. Although that position is dishearting, I went into the draft with the mindset that we equally needed a LT as much as a NT, and I had a 99% feeling we weren't getting both and picks 1 and 2. So I wasn't too disappointed when we grabbed an NT and not an LT within the first two picks. But I was pleased that an NT was picked, and a lot of the picks did address the "trenches" that people always say is the end all and be all of football.
Fact is, we did address the trenches (mostly on the defensive side) and we got a lot of players that seem to be low risk as in work ethic and talent, which I like. Was the spillar pick a luxury one? probably. but if he plays really well and improves that passing game a lot, I won't complain. If he sucks, I will just shake my head as usual at this organization. I just can't say the spillar move, or any of the other ones were bad until I see the results. I can't say the picks are bad just because they didn't match up to what I prefered.
And as far as QB goes..... I really don't have a huge problem with levi brown.
We can complain all we want and wish we were more like NE. But if the Bills drafted a punter in the 5th round like NE did, even if we didn't have a punter, this board would have gone nuts.
This class was underwhelming? Bradford, Clausen, McCoy, Tebow, Pike, Lefevour didn't do well in college ball?

that's fine. and that's your right, JohnC.
i learned last year not to get drawn in too far into discussions regarding Ralph Wilson, because the points i make about him seem to be taken out of context from what i'm actually trying to say.
there's a lot of blind passion raging against Mr. Wilson. and while he is open to criticism, i find that many seem to take it far too personally.
the trouble, in the end, is that Mr. Wilson's tenure as owner is a mixed bag. for those who don't like him, seem to overlook the fact that he's not relocated the franchise, and yet call him a money-grubber. for those who question his commitment to winning, well, that's somewhat open to debate based on my conversations with him. but i'll not get into that because that's an argument not worth fighting, and i'll leave people to their grudges (and i know i'm going to catch heat for that one).
in the end, if people don't like Mr. Wilson and want to send him a message, don't support the team. don't buy season tickets. Mr. Wilson is sensitive to the team's fans. and an empty Ralph Wilson Stadium would send a clear message. the fact that that's not happened leads me to believe that the fans of this team are overly loyal, blind or as apathetic as they claim Mr. Wilson to be.
jw
Where was Ralph going to move the team to? Why would he do so if his situation in Buffalo is so financially favorable. Many people toss this out there as their main defense of Ralph--that he didn't sell/move the team. It's weak. Ralph knows how money is made.

I guess I'm not following:
Do I think that it was wrong for the Dolphins to leak this? No worse that Dez leaking the question originally.
Do I think that the Dolphins are trying to save face? Possibly. I invision a scenario where Jeff was told by the NFL or by the Dolphins to issue his apology. He did what he was told, issued the apology and moved on. His co-workers thought he got the shaft, and came out to support him.
Do I think that it's possible that Dez Bryant is now lieing to save face. Possibly. He did lie to the NCAA in an attempt to save himself.
How come no one asked him if he ever f*cked his sister??
Anyway, the obvious question is "what if Bryant said--'yes, my mother was a prostitute'"? How does that have any bearing on any team "giving him millions of dollars", as several goofballs have suggested?
-
Why are you bringing up random offensive statistics?
The point is that teams in the NFL use more than 1 RB. The days of 1 grinder RB are long gone.
If you want to talk playoffs.
Indianapolis Colts - 2RB
New Orleans Saints -3RB
San Diego Chargers -2RB
Minnesota Vikings - 2RB
New England Patriots - 3RB
Dallas Cowboys -3RB
Cincinnati Bengals -1.5 RB
Arizona Cardinals -2RB
New York Jets 3RB
Green Bay Packers -1 RB
Baltimore Ravens -3RB
Philadelphia Eagles -2RB
No one is asking you, it is a fact. So thanks, you can keep your thanks to your self.
Yes, I see that you have pointed out that every team in the league (even the Bills!) has 2 or more RBs.
Random offensive stats?? Is that a joke? You're the one who claimed that the league's "future" was in such teams as the Bucs, the Skins, Jags, etc (I thought THAT was your joke)...because they had multiple RBs. I'm just pointing out that without a strong passing game, it doesn't matter how many RBs split the carries---the team will scuk, in general.
The present/future of the league lies with teams like Indy and NO, not the dogs you listed.
-
It's just a prediction.
What was your prediction last year?
-
You don't trade 1st or second round picks for used RB's who aren't elite and have off field issues.
Sorry, Lynch is either going to be here, or he is going to get us very minimal in return.
Exactly.
Who trades a first for a RB?? When was this done last? Ricky? Walker? Dickerson? Lynch isn't nearly as good.
-
This is the future of the NFL a la Cowgirls, Jag, Bucks, Vikings, Jets, Deadskins, Giants, Eagles, etc etc
The "future of the NFL" is modeled on the Jags, Bucs, Skins, Giants??
Of the top 10 passing teams last year, 8 made the playoffs. The other two missed out with identical records to a few that made it.
Of the top 10 rushing teams, only 5 made the playoffs. Only one playoff team was in the top 4 rushing.
No thanks, Skins, Giants (how's that working out?), Bucs (??), and Jags....
-
I was speaking with an NFL exec of another franchise and he gave me some insight on why it was actually better for Lynch not to be traded. If the Bills had traded him on draft day, we may have gotten a 3rd or 4th at best. However, if a premier back in the league gets hurt during training camp, preseason or early in the season, he would be highly sought after and would be worth a 1st or 2nd plus. Given the number of quality backs with not so quality backups, this may have been the right move to make.
You had me right up to there.....

That's a complete load of crap. No wonder you didn't bother with specifics to back up your argument. There aren't any.
"Due to the nature of the crime and Washington’s status as a juvenile, records specifically related to the crime itself could not be obtained in requests made to both the Texas Department of Public Safety and the New Orleans Police Department. But if this had been "sexual assault," Washington’s report on the sex-offender registry would have listed a different offense. "
Guess that's not a fact, hunh?
Your basic argument here is that you probably know much more about what went on here, having read an article or two on the internet, than does a coach who has spent years working with him, or his sister, who maintains a good non-sexual relationship with him.
In other words, despite the fact that nobody involved with the case in any way, from the police on down, has given the slightest inkling or mention of the fact that might not have been non-consensual, despite all that, and despite the fact that your entire knowledge of this comes from the internet, you're guessing that it may have been non-consensual.
That's pathetic.
Facts? How's this, from the article:
"For Washington to enter Thomsen’s program, he had to pass through five levels of clearance, which the school considers protocol any time an at-risk student seeks admittance. He first needed approval from Thomsen, then the athletic director, the dean of student affairs, the chief of police and finally the president of the school.
“The biggest concern I had was, ‘Is he going to be a threat to the community?’” Thomsen said.
"After a thorough investigation, the school agreed to accept him. 'Even the chief of police thought Tony was a low risk,' Thomsen said. "
So they were required to talk to the chief of police, who said he thought Tony was a low risk. And you figure that that probably means that this was non-consensual, and you won't believe otherwise until we can prove it even though the records were sealed.
You know, you're right, I can't prove it. I also can't prove that he, or you, have never committed a murder. But until someone in a position of authority gives at least a slight indication of it, I'm willing to believe it. Just because we can't prove it is no reason whatsoever that you, who can't find the slightest bit of an indication that it's true, should be putting it out there as a possibility.
We don't only know what the perp has told us. We know that the chief of police has told Abilene Christian, we know that nobody involved has introduced the slightest doubt, and we know that if it had been assault, his listing on the sex offenders database would have been different.
You're clearly the one who didn't read the article.
Where is the slightest indication that it was NOT consensual? Until you find something not based on message board doubters, your argument is simply malicious speculation.
My point, which you still are either pretending to miss or just can't follow is that ALL information in that article is predicated on the perpetrator's own statement to everyone involved. His claims are the only one's considered. I'm just suggesting to you the possibility that this huge man may have forced himself upon his sister in a nonconsensual way. No coach, police chief or other knows---nor do you. Not one of those people in your reference ever spoke to the victim.
.
As for the coach or coaches you refer to, NONE knew the kid for "years working with him". They both had just met this huge athlete and thought how they had to have him on their team.
So, yeah, believe it or not, I am "guessing that it may have been non-consensual". You are incapable of considering the possibility???
It is not hard for me (very hard for you) to think of several reason's why his sister would not want her brother to be imprisoned. You can't. What were Big BEns' accuser's first answers to the questions "did he rape you" and "did you have sex with him"? I'll help you: "no" and "I don't think so". Stories change based on the thought process of the victim and what she is willing to endure.
You would also likely find it impossible to believe that women stay in relationships after being abused by men also--crazy speculation, huh?
Again, everything flows forth from what the guy has told everyone---it doesn't matter how many people he tells it to. They will believe it or not based on what's in it for them.

I am assuming that Chan Gailey is a better offensive coordinator than Alex Van Pelt which is a safe assumption coming from a guy who took his teams to the playoffs with Kordell Stewart and Quincy Carter as quarterback. Ignorance is bliss at this point for mostly everybody but Spiller is someone that coordinators have to watch.
Here's CG's resume as OC:
In Pitts '96---15th overall offense/27th passing offense. In '97---17th ranked offense, 26th in passing. His tenure as OC fortuitously happened to overlap with Bettis's best seasons. He used Stewart as an option QB.
In Miami '00---26th ranked offense/27th in passing. In '01---21st offense/19th in passing.
His passing game in Dallas didn't completely suck because he had a still-breathing Aikman.
Unless Carter was a stowaway on a bus, CG never took Carter to the playoffs with him. Maybe you're confusing Gailey with Bill Parcells. I'm sure you're the first to do so.
When it comes to the legend of "CG--QB guru", for many (certainly not "mostly everybody", I hope), "Ignorance is bliss at this point".
-
I think that Gailey is siting back and looking at his weapons with a big smile! With Spiller and Jackson as a one two punch the team has unlimitted possiblities. T.O. was OK last year but I think our offense was predictable because once Lynch came back there was no screen option unless Fred was in the backfield! Face it Lynch is not a good receiver and that is his biggest weakness. With two backs that can catch I think the tight end routes will be open all day! Much like it was at the beginning of last year before Lynch came back and had to get his touches. I think this will free up Nelson who is a great talent. I say 60 catches 10 TD's!!!
So, Nelson is going to displace Gates, Clark or Miller as one of the best TE's in the AFC?
No receiver on the Bills had 60 cathces last year.

Hernandez responds today that it was one failed test, not multiple. And that failure was back in 2008.
Further,
Ooops---facts!!
This thread can now be eliminated for the sake of the OP.

Chris Brown of BB.com is now getting his news from espn rumor central. This is in regards to the bills being interested in Flozell Adams. This is pretty pathetic reporting, he seems to be getting worst with age. Does he have no connections with the front office or is he just being lazy? Lately I think the singer might have better info about the bills.
He works for the front office.
Small point.
-
Asking does not equal accusing.
I might not ask them the question, but I'll find out the answer before I hire someone and pay them 10s of millions of dollars given his known past.
Why does your paying him millions of dollars hinge on whether his mother was a prostitute.
Can't wait for this answer!!
-
"I'm sure they'd be willing to take whatever at this point," a personnel director for a National Football League team said Friday. "They've got too many guys and they're trying to move him, but I don't know if there's much activity. He just doesn't want to be there. Just not a good situation."
Could it just possibly be that the unidentified personnel director works for the Packers and is trying to deflate Lynch's value? Nah, that couldn't possibly be.
You're right--it couldn't be. The Bills already have a price in mind and no one has met it. Stories like this aren't going to change Nix's price or the offers made by other teams. The "deflation" theory makes no sense.
-
Again, where has anybody not from this board said that?
Colon said so in his report to the police. He said they left the first bar and the women folowed them to the second.
-
Nope. He's still got a ways to go before being pounded down to the bottom of the barrel. It ain't easy being the pro athlete public enemy #1, but the Tiger story is played so we needed someone new.
Where are all the guys who not long ago were crying that "the Media" was "ignoring" the Big Ben "assualt" story? That ESPN was spiking stories on this topic?
-
Like, mellow out, dude. What he said was all from the news accounts. That's why he knows it. They have a good non-sexual relationship to this day. That's why he knows it.
Do some research before you go off. Yeah, it's something that makes us all feel queasy, but you still need to do research before you accuse a guy of making stuff up. He didn't.
Since nobody has dealt with the facts in this thread, here is a place to find a few:
http://www.sportsfanlive.com/sflreports/en...usive_lineman_s
A few excerpts:
"In May 2003, Washington was convicted of having sex with a relative that multiple NFL and college sources say was his 15-year old biological sister. The act was consensual, according to his college coaches and two NFL scouts, who spoke to him about the incident. The sister does not wish to speak publicly on the case, according to Washington’s agent, who added that the siblings are now on good terms and talk often. "
--
"... Everything else, including his home, was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
“'Katrina was a total disruption of his life and his high school career,' said Sartain, a coaching veteran of 26 years and father of two, who now heads up the football program at East Texas Baptist University. "
--
"The product of what Sartain calls a 'dysfunctional' family, Washington arrived in Athens, Texas, with emotional needs that had long been neglected. 'I don’t want to say he was emotionally "crippled," but with that traumatic time in his life, he skipped a phase, so to speak, in his emotional development,' the coach said."
--
“'The biggest concern I had was, "Is he going to be a threat to the community?"’ Thomsen said.
"After a thorough investigation, the school agreed to accept him. 'Even the chief of police thought Tony was a low risk,' Thomsen said. "
--
I'm not going to switch all the quotation marks on this next bit, I'll just paste it it. Sorry ...:
“I don’t want to cry ‘victim’ and he never has, per se, but I really believe that he was a 16-year-old victim of his own environment,” Sartain said. “It’s unfortunate that the counsel that he got at the time led him to have this label on him the rest of his life.”
It’s a label he couldn’t escape in his hometown of New Orleans, where as a high school student, he bagged groceries at Save-a-Lot until 5 a.m., went directly to school, then practice, then back to work. He couldn’t escape it when he came to Athens, Texas, and had his name printed in the local newspaper as part of the required community notification of his status.
But if he truly wanted to run from his past, he would have given up long ago. Instead, he’s choosing to face it, something Sartain hopes people will appreciate.
“I find it hard to believe that people cannot realize the resolve, the perseverance, the character and determination that this young man has had to get where he is,” Sartain said.
Thomsen points to the fact that his former player has had no run-ins with the law since his offense seven years ago.
“I have no fear in my mind of anything like that happening with Tony again,” Thomsen said. “I wouldn’t have brought him here if I had that fear. And I have no reservations about anything like that happening again in his future.”
The fact that the offense was committed as a juvenile means the odds are in his favor. According to a report published by the National Center on Sexual Behavior of Youth, adolescent sex offenders have a 5 percent to 14 percent chance of sexual re-offenses.
Dr. Fred Berlin, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and founder of the Sexual Disorders Clinic, believes that unlike adult offenders, juveniles are “highly treatable” and “rarely go on to become adult offenders.”
--
And:
“I’m not so much concerned with the incident. It happened seven years ago,” the scout said. “But I am concerned with his maturity level. He’s going to walk into an NFL locker room where it’s tough enough being a rookie, but this – this takes it to a whole new level. And I worry about how the media in whatever market his team is in is going to take this.”
Thomsen disagrees with the assessment that his former player is “immature,” saying he was a model citizen, and “never had any off-the-field incident or any problems whatsoever” at Abilene Christian.
Rather than preparing for the Combine at one of the trendy high-end training facilities, Washington chose to work out privately with former Ohio State linebacker Anthony Schlegal, who was the campus president for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“He’s surrounding himself with good people,” Thomsen said. “He wants to succeed. And that’s what he needs.”
Washington’s choice of agent is also telling. Vann McElroy is not only a former NFL safety who won a Super Bowl with the Raiders, but he is also the son of a pastor.
“We didn’t put people like Anthony Schlegel in Tony’s life,” McElroy told SportsFanLive.com. “He reached out to them. He chose to go to Abilene Christian. To me that says a lot.”

It's a good long interesting article. And after you read it, you won't be guessing about what happened.
I read that article when someone here posted it weeks ago. It further erodes your argument---if you read it closely, you would NEVER have used it to respond to my post. In fact the only fact is contained in the first sentence.
The ONLY claim published in that "fact filled" article that the sex was "consensual" was according to his college coaches and two NFL scouts, who spoke to him about the incident. in fact, the only credible claim can come from the victim--his sister and as your reference CLEARLY states: "The sister does not wish to speak publicly on the case" (regardless of what their relationship is today).
His coach and a few scouts tell us all about the events and that's enough for you??
Look, I never said the guy made it up----just that is ridiculous for you, me, or coaches and scouts (who have vested interests in this kid's success as a football player) to claim we know that this was "passionate, consensual" incest. We only know what the perp has told us. You can believe him or not--but you can't state it as fact.
That was kind of my point. You should really read your references before you post them in your defense.
And this talk of "blackballing" is nonsense. So far, all 32 teams have clearly concluded that he just isn't that good a prospect to counter the bad publicity. They are free to come to that conclusion indepently. To claim otherwise is nuts.
-
Exactly.
Doesn't matter---CG is going to be HC, OC and, of course, DC.
See? It really doesn't matter!
-
Tony's transgression was repugnant but it was mutual consent. Big Ben's are acts of aggression against defenseless women.
Tony made one mistake, Ben has been accused twice.
Tony was underage, Ben is an adult.
Tony's was an act of passion. Ben's was premeditated and occurred with concurrence and enforcement by his police body guards. It was also illegal imprisonment.
Ben has done this before, you can bank on it. That it is not the first time it ever happened and follows a pattern of systemic rape.
I believe Ben's accusers.
"She said no" should ring out at every stadium all year long.
The Pittsburgh rapist should be out of the league and in jail.
There is no way Gooddell suspends the bast@rd if he had any doubt about this.
Time for you sorry-@ssed jock lovers to stand up and be counted.
Mutual consent?? An act of passion??---holy sh**T!!!
How do you know this?? His sister consented to having her BIG bro have sex with her when she was 15 (and it started and ended right there?)? You must come from "Tony"'s home town!
You believe BR's first accuser when it is clear that she perpetrated a fraud against the state where she filed charges and is in the process of doing the same in civil court? And you believe her? It is clear you have no familiarity with the facts of that case.
You arer free to believe what you want, but you can't attempt to convince others to agree with you if you chose ignore what disturbs your view of reality.
-
Did Brown just say that 3 of our picks struggled to establish themselves on the rosters of low profile schools?
And we spent a 4th on a guy who had to work his way onto the field by his senior year at...... UConn?
The Bills should really proof his stuff before they print it.
-
You forgot that most of the Team was on IR last year. Buddy thinks we are not far off, I believe him.
.
If we could have scored against NO that game was winnable.
The Jacksonville game was winnable as well. Needed more points.
______ game was winnable. Just needed more points.
-
Nope, didn't know about him until the OP mentioned him. Because he wasn't a highly-touted prospect/top-5 at this position, unlike JP back in 2004. It's not hard to know about the Leinarts and Clausens.
No, doc, it's not hard to know about QBs at schools we all get to see for free on TV nearly every week during the college season. Glad you have finally conceded this obvious point.
Oh, wait--it was BLESTO that hipped you to JP. A bunch of entry level scouts combing through the lesser known schools' junior classes. Their assessment of JPL (as good as Rivers, Manning) was proven absurd. Until you read that, you knew not of him.
You should have been a little more skeptical.
-
WEO - link? You should thank the OP of that thread for pointing out the existence of Brown before the Bills drafted him.
Oh, I do. As with the OP--I wasn't familiar with this guy's work when he posted. No doubt tou will claim to have known all about him---having watched a ton of Tulane...oops, I mean Troy games.
