  1. U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson in Minneapolis has given the league until 6 p.m. ET Wednesday to resubmit a request for a clarification on her ruling Monday that lifted the lockout. The league previously had filed an expedited motion for a stay. The stay would put Nelson's decision on hold pending further appeals. Nelson also gave the players until 10 a.m. ET Wednesday to respond to the stay request. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81f7b5fe/article/judge-gives-league-a-day-to-refile-ruling-clarification-request?module=HP_headlines
  2. 'Skins eyeing Denver's No. 2 pick, Gabbert If the Broncos' pick is on the table, Washington may be a buyer. The Redskins want to move up, perhaps as high as the Denver Broncos' No. 2 overall pick Thursday, to ensure they land a quarterback in the NFL draft. Several general managers believe the Redskins, who are expected to cut ties with veteran Donovan McNabb, will make the move to land Missouri's Blaine Gabbert. The Redskins have strong reports on Gabbert and University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker, and some inside the organization believe Gabbert is worthy of the No. 1 pick. Gabbert could be available to the Redskins at No. 10, where they are scheduled to pick for now. But there are no assurances, and if Gabbert is a potential franchise quarterback, then Washington's desire to make sure it can secure him will be great. .. 4. Miller is NOT the problem......the entire defensive unit is a finesse puck handling group. you got rid of all your stay at home defenseman in Tallinder, Lydman, Rivet and even Spacek. almost all your forwards are either physically small or play small. this team is NOT built for the playoffs.

  8. “I’m not the commissioner of the National Football League,” Smith said. “He’s the commissioner of the league. And we’re in a world where the owners of the National Football League opted out of a contract that was fine. They went to the Supreme Court to try to stick it to the players and they lost. They tried to keep revenue sharing from happening in 2010 and they lost. A judge ruled that they gamed the TV contracts to lock the players out and they lost. And then they lock the players out and took football from our fans, and yesterday they lost.” http://profootballta...chaos-to-occur/ advantage players.....

  11. The judge also suggests in her opinion that the lockout would do so much damage to so many players that it cannot be allowed to continue. She feels strongly about the damage the lockout will do and is unlikely to issue the stay that would put the lockout back into effect. When judges of the higher court consider the possibility of a stay, they will first consider Nelson's opinion, a detailed and impressive recitation of the situation. Even though a stay is normally the next step in this process, it is far from certain the owners will obtain the stay they seek. My guess -- and I should emphasize that it's only an educated guess -- is that their demand for a stay will fall on deaf ears and the lockout will have ended with Nelson's order Monday. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/news/story?page=munson/110425
  12. Is the ruling to end the lockout a surprise? Yes, it is a bit of a surprise. It certainly is a surprise for the owners. Injunctions are granted only in the most compelling of circumstances. The players were required to show the irreparable harm already described. They were required to show that they would prevail in a full trial later on the issues raised by the lockout. And they were required to show that their plea was in the public interest. It was a tough case to make, but the players managed to do it. advantage players.....
  13. In an 89-page ruling issued Monday, a federal judge in St. Paul, Minn., ordered an end to the NFL lockout. The ruling from Judge Susan Richard Nelson raises significant legal questions about the lockout, the relationship between the owners and the players, and the 2011 season. Here are some of the questions and their answers: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/news/story?page=munson/110425
  14. another unflattering comment on Cam: Former NFL defensive tackle Chris Hovan, who played for the Bucs during Gruden’s time there as head coach, was present for the filming (Gruden/Newton). “I mean, if you look at all the top flight quarterbacks, the Peyton Mannings and Tom Brady, they are so systematic when they play football,” Hovan told WQYK, via JoeBucsFan.com. “They know how to read coverages. The first and second audible or the third audible, where to go when the defense presents looks to them. And I don’t feel in a pressure situation that Cam can make those checks right now. If he was under Jon Gruden, if Jon Gruden was his head coach, he would definitely red shirt. If you are going to put him out there — first of all, Carolina’s offensive line, they pretty much only have Jordan Gross right now. He’s a left tackle and was drafted in the first round. If you put him in there with a suspect offensive line you are going to get the kid killed. Yeah, he can run . . . . but you can only run for so long. They are going to hunt this kid down. I don’t feel he is ready for the NFL level yet. Does he have the intangibles? Athletically, yes he does. But this is just a complex game when you go to the NFL level, especially at the quarterback position. You have to be ready to make those checks at the line of scrimmage. I don’t feel like he is ready for that yet.” http://profootballta...n-film-session/
