Teams usually go lateral because it gives member of the kicking team a chance to take out the guys trying to catch the kick. The straight “suicide onside” where the kicker is trying to recover his own kick is less common. I don’t think the kicking team has to wait 10 yards before hitting an opposing player. They can’t touch the ball before it travels 10 yards but that’s it.

Well he finished the game, so that’s a good sign. -

What? Elam was horrible today. -
That’s the gift that keeps on giving the whole year long.

It’s strange for a team that values “measureables” so much. I get going small and fast at linebacker, but if there’s one position where they need size, it’s defensive tackle.

Cowboys OLB DeMarvion Overshown - torn ACL, MCL, PCL

That doesn’t sound good. Wow. -
The Sabres had the best goalie in the league, maybe of all time- the NHL MVP, and couldn’t win even one Stanley Cup. Now it seems that history is repeating itself with the Bills and Allen.

Doesn’t surprise me at all. Like when Von Miller was really struggling last season but they trotted him out there over and over anyway. They are playing the long game and hoping he finds his form for the playoffs.

It’s not an enigma at all. McDermott is good at organizational leadership and team building but bad at game day management.
-
The Lions have a way better OL than the Rams and the Bills don’t like to blitz because their DBs are weak in man coverage, so I’m not sure I see how this happens.

You just noticed that? This game caused me major PTSD from the last 4 playoff losses. It’s a theme against the top offenses at this point.

Classic Rapp.

If that hasn’t happened by now, it never will.

When you’re down by three scores in the second half, you aren’t trying to run out the clock. You are trying to score asap, which is what they were doing. The TOP discrepancy was mostly caused by the defense as the Bills had to abandon both the run and the short passing game to have a chance.

His opinion of the Bills offensive line not controlling the line of scrimmage is a little crazy, IMO. They allowed zero sacks and the Bills averaged nearly 9 yards per play. They ran the ball for over 4 yards per carry and scored 42 points. I mean, what does he want? “We could’ve run the ball better with our running backs…” come on.

It’s like Eberflus defending his end of game play calling. It’s like they never want to admit a mistake.

McD will be the scapegoat to hide the real issue this week

I honestly thought the defense was better last season with McDermott calling the plays. More aggressive and more effective when blitzing. This defense looks a lot like Leslie Frazier’s. -

Too bad the Rams didn’t just “tip their cap” to Allen. -

I have complete confidence in the Bills offense, if healthy, vs any opponent and in any situation. The defense, however, is another story.. -
It's looking like both Kincaid and Coleman will be out again today...

Why bother playing him then? Just rest him until the playoffs. -
I’m mixed on this. With Edwards leaving, the Bills need someone else at safety and Hyde is the obvious choice given his knowledge of the defense. Hyde is a leader but he isn’t the player he was. Even so, I’m sure there will be a lot of internal pressure (and external pressure based on this thread 😄) to replace Hamlin with Hyde and I think that has the potential to be divisive within the team. I guess we’ll see how it’s handled. I seriously doubt Hyde came out of retirement to be a practice squad player. I think he’s going to want to play once he’s in shape, regardless of injuries.

McDermott’s Post Game speech deserves its own thread

McD didn’t coin that phrase.
