  1. So far, dead average: 25-25 in college, 15-17 in the NFL. Although the sample size is small- only 6 seasons total of head coaching experience- which may be a concern in itself. There's nothing in his record that says he's a top guy. You'd have to sense something in his character or in an interview to put your faith in him, IMO. Maybe somebody will.
  2. He has a strong marketing department. Flash over substance.
  3. He'd be twice the hire Mularkey is. Good luck.
  4. “If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it. If anything goes really good, then you did it. That’s all it takes to get people to win football games for you.” “The first time you quit, it’s hard. The second time, it gets easier. The third time, you don’t even have to think about it.” “If you want to coach you have three rules to follow to win. One, surround yourself with people who can’t live without football. I’ve had a lot of them. Two, be able to recognize winners. They come in all forms. And, three, have a plan for everything. A plan for practice, a plan for the game. A plan for being ahead, and a plan for being behind 20-0 at half, with your quarterback hurt and the phones dead, with it raining cats and dogs and no rain gear because the equipment man left it at home.” - Bear Bryant
  5. "We can't stop the run or the pass. Otherwise we're in great shape."
  6. Carson was the best. I remember when Dean Martin was on and he corrected Johnny's grammar, telling he that "he had a dangling participle", Carson responded that he'd wear a long rain coat and no one would notice. One of my personal favorites. Mike was surprisingly wise. I also always remember that he said one of the things he learned in his career was that as hard as he was working every day in the gym training and getting ready for fights, there were other people working just as hard to come up with ways to separate him from his money. A very cynical view but probably right on. Interesting. I thought Eruzzione said is was before the game as well.
  7. I think the best thing about Brooks's speech is that was all he said. What else was there to say really?
  8. I'm not sure why you think this is sarcastically witty. They DID win two championships with their franchise QB. How many have teams with scrubs at QB won? You pretty much need a franchise QB to have a shot. Like it or not.
  9. Maybe they should give McKelvin a shot at safety instead of Graham. He has struggled there IMO.
  10. Tyrod looked like Cam Newton today. Making things happen with his arm and his legs. Leading the team. Everything.
  11. Kyle Williams?
  12. I guess it doesn't really matter. Rex is a master interviews and his teams are losers. Thurman is a disaster at interviews and his defense stinks. Their effectiveness at interviews doesn't seem relevant I guess. Plus, it's always good to show some contempt for the fans and the media when your teams poops it's pants. It makes you sound like you think it's their fault.
  13. I've been wondering what happened to those.
  14. I think you're really reaching to defend Thurman here, but to each his own. I really wonder what would have to happen for some Bills fans to be critical of players or coaches on this team.
  15. The reporter is telling him what Preston Brown said. It's about the defensive play calling, which is what Thurman is supposed to be in charge of. His response is that he doesn't know what he's talking about. That's pretty bad.
  16. He sounds like he has serious CTE already.
  17. He really should be the first. He gives the impression of being totally clueless and redundant. Other than that he's fine.
  18. Dick Jauron: "It's hard to win in the NFL" Chan Gailey: "If I knew what the problem was I'd fix it. I don't know what the problem is." Dennis Thurman: "You guys assume I know what's going on. I have no idea." Who is the winner?
  19. It doesn't take much analysis to see that Mario is just a guy playing for a paycheck. You don't win championships with players like that which is one of the reasons he has never been on a successful team, college or NFL. And I don't think he's the only one to be honest. The Bills need to weed guys like him out and unfortunately, I doubt that Rex Ryan is the guy to do it.
  20. +1I wonder how many fans who don't care about this are ok with their kids playing football now that this information is out there?
  21. This is the reason that Whaley and Nix never drafted a QB early until EJ. They don't want to "reach" for players just because they have a need at that position, but you have to realize that you almost always "reach" for QBs because they are so in demand. Whaley needs to take Bill Polian's advice when he said that no pick is too early to take a QB if you think that he might be a legitimate NFL starter. Unless the Bills still believe in EJ as a legitimate NFL QB they need to take a QB somewhere in the first 3 rounds. QB is the most important position on the team and backup QB is the second most important, especially with a guy like Tyron and his injury risk.
  22. When Vince Lombardi too over as the Giants OC he had by his own admission "a great many ideas... some good and some not so good". With time and input from players like Frank Gifford he refined his schemes and philosophies into one of the most effective offenses of the time. I see Chip Kelly the same way. He has lots of ideas and needs time and input to refine and develop them. The fact that many established coaches listen to him and have adopted some of his ideas speaks very highly of his concepts. All Chip Kelly needs is time and a GM who shares his philosophy to work with. He can't be both head coach and GM effectively. Very, very few people can. If I were an owner I would hire him in a heartbeat.
  23. No one is going to sign Mario to a contract worth more than $5m per season and based on his effort level I'd be surprised if he earns that. His days of 10+ sacks per season are over, IMO.
  24. Bills certainly need a #2 WR but I would prioritize OL first regarding the offense. It doesn't sound like Whaley is going to be very active in the FA market so it's going to have to be via the draft. I'd be looking at LB, OL and QB in the first three rounds in some order.
