2017 NFL Mock Drafts & Top Prospects
thebandit27 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in College Football
😡 Mccaffrey to Carolina was supposed to be my "splash" pick in my mock -
I understand what you're saying; here's my issue: your final sentence falls into the "taking a QB just for the sake of it" category IMO. That, to me, is wasting a pick. I only take a QB if I think he's got franchise upside; otherwise I'm moving on to best player available at a key position.
-
I wholly defend the EJ pick in 2013. Was it a pick that worked out? Unquestionably not. Was it a smart pick at the time? Absolutely. If you don't have a franchise QB, and you believe that there's a guy available that can become one, then you're negligent if you don't pull the trigger on the guy. That's not to say you should pick a QB just for the sake of doing it...there's a major difference in the two statements.

Report: Seahawks Open to Trading Richard Sherman

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they traded a guy like Nate Solder -

I know...I just think that the reaction from some is a bit over the top. -

I know that I immediately think of Allen Iverson when I think of Shady... ...or that could possibly be a horrendous comparison, since Iverson was talking about regular-season basketball practice, and Shady missed a voluntary stretch session. The good news is that you're stretching this narrative enough that the entire NFL should probably take the week off. -
Oddly enough, the last 2 years have been a departure from the norm, wherein neither Shaq nor Darby visited One Bills Drive.

If anyone cares, here's my 1 cent on Stewart: http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/186337-2017-nfl-mock-drafts-top-prospects/page-148?do=findComment&comment=4312664

That's generally how I feel as well. Like I said: the effect is not lost on me. I simply think that the effect will have little-to-no impact on the team's performance. -

I don't disagree with any of that--but like you said, I don't think it's going to make the difference between playoffs and an early disappointment for this team. -

As of 2015, Tom Brady had never skipped a voluntary workout. Now, that doesn't mean that this is a big deal, but figured I'd point that out since, IMO, that's quote a statement. -

Geez guys; it's voluntary. He's missing stretching and working out. Would I prefer he's there? Yes. Would the HC? I'm sure. Is anyone--his teammates and coaches included--worried about the fact that he's not attending a voluntary workout where zero football-related activity takes place? Nobody except some of the folks on this board. -
The guy he reminded me of most was P. R. Kerrigan--tall and lean with excellent COD skills. Doubt he's as low/explosive out of the gate as Kerrigan though.

Rivers is the kind of kid that the combine can really help. Sure, he looks dominant on tape, but scouts want to know if that speed, fluidity, and athleticism merely pop because of who he's playing against. Then he comes to Indy and blows the doors off the testing--4th in 40, 4th in bench, 5th in vertical, 6th in broad, 3rd in 3-cone. If there were any doubt about whether or not he belongs among the top pass-rushing prospects in the class, it's gone now. My opinion only (obviously), but I reckon Buffalo needs to grab him at 44 if they want him.
-
Derek Rivers in the 4th? That would qualify as an amazing steal. I think Rivers is a top-50 guy right now.

If your info holds--obviously we all know that things can change--then it would be business-as-usual with the team drafting solely to fill needs... ...and it has the potential to be disappointing. Obviously the names that fill those positional maneuvers will have much to do with the reaction, but the idea that they've got a plan to fill needs going into the draft says that the overall philosophy surrounding the draft is still amiss. -

Fixed that for you... http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/McDermotts-vision-for-Bills-rooted-in-his-dedicated-approach/50a9a559-ce5e-4935-82ba-44625dba9742 -
Hard to say, the valuation for qualifying CFAs includes actual player quality and playoff appearances, not just money, so who knows if they'll be right about who qualifies. Also, there remains the possibility that guys like Gragg, Bryant, White, Blanton, and Douzable will end up getting contracts before June 1st, so a net loss could still happen.

You've seen enough of my offseason plan to have a good idea of where I was at, so I won't rehash it here. I'm not sold on the DiMarco and Poyer signings, but Ducasse is the one that sticks in my craw. I think he's terrible, and I have no idea how he makes a team that returns 9 NFL-roster-worthy OLmen (last year's starting 5 plus Cyrus, Henderson, Groy, and Lewis,--that's without mentioning Michael Ola, who has started 19 career games at RT). I'm not a pedant when it comes to compensatory picks, but it'll be a sad state of affairs if the Ducasse signing prevents this team from a 3rd round compensatory pick they'd have recouped from Gilmore's defection to a division rival.

I know Mary Kay a bit back from my AP days And no, it doesn't say that she confirmed his draft board. The story says that a source said that Shanahan said he had Jimmy G behind Carr. Regardless, the semantics don't matter. Nothing can be proven at this point so there's zero repercussion for anyone trumping up their draft evaluation. And please don't generalize or talk down to other fans about what we may think regarding drafting QBs (or any other players for that matter). If you believe that Shanahan or Cooter has an eye for QBs, that's fine. Time may prove that to be true, and it may not. I don't have enough information to make a call on that. To say that either guy has a proven track record for identifying and drafting QBs is simply false at this point.
-
I don't see any mention of MKC fact-checking that with the organization, nor does it say that he had Carr as his #1. Doesn't mean it's not true, but the organization also has no reason to confirm or deny it. All I'm saying is that we have no evidence that Shanahan or Cooter would be able to identify and draft a franchise QB.
-
there's always the "we liked that guy" stories after the draft. You literally never hear the story teller get called out.
