  1. Going off of E Turner numbers: http://www.cover1.net/2016/02/20161212015-bills-defensive-study-defensive-line/
  2. Twice in the entirety of the 2015 season did Dareus drop into coverage
  3. As I've said, I can only list the guys that I've watched at more than a cursory level
  4. If I rank a guy, it's because I've watched at least 2-3 full games' worth of throws multiple times. I've got mayfield at 1 because he's the best combination of pure passer ability and athleticism. I don't see a round 1 QB in Darnold at the moment, and speculating about what pro scouts would say is just that: speculation. Re McSorely, he's not on my list because I haven't watched him yet.
  5. My vote goes to Fight Club--right away you know the movie isn't quite what you expected walking in Honorable mention: not an all-time great movie, but the opening scene to The Descent is as gripping as any suspense film I can remember. Other notables that haven't been mentioned: Vengeance of an Assassin (Thai movie) Ghost Ship (movie was terrible, but the opening scene was great) Mad Max: Fury Road Children of Men Lastly, I have to give a nod to The Usual Suspects. The opening scene was intriguing, but doesn't become remarkable until you know the backstory. Bryan Singer was so utterly committed to keeping the answer to "Who is Keyser Soze?" a mystery that he had each of the 5 main actors play Soze in the opening scene, and spliced each voice together for Soze's part just to keep the audience guessing. It's an absolutely genius move. As a corollary: he also had each of the 5 actors (plus himself and a few other crew members) play Soze in the flashback scene.
  6. Obviously, both teams' prospective success is conditioned upon having the right GM/HC combination... With that said, I'll say Sabres. Up front, they actually have the makings for a very good top-6 right now (even without Kane--assuming they do end up trading him) from Eichel, ROR, Okposo, and Reinhart, and still have some very intriguing young prospects in Nylander, Fasching, Bailey, and Baptiste. On the back end, they have a stud in Risto, what looks to be a reliable 2nd pairing guy in McCabe, a potential gamer in Guhle, and vets in Gorges and Bogosian that can be a 3rd pairing; they're still missing the other stud defender that can make plays on the body as well as in transition. Regarding the Bills, it's really hard to pick a team that still hasn't identified their franchise QB. I like Tyrod, and with a great team around him, there's a chance he could make enough plays to win, but that's not what surrounds him right now. The depth behind their top players at RB/WR/TE is altogether unproven, and their top 2 targets in the passing game--while quite productive when healthy--have each had multiple injury issues. Defensively, they lack depth at the DE positions and are a complete question mark at LB. There's a chance that the secondary could be very good, but that's relying upon a bounce-back year from Darby, and improvement from Seymour, a quick-study in Tre White, and Poyer playing up to potential at safety. Just my 1 cent.
  7. Ah, the classic 3 stages of a Patriots cheating scandal, all in a single post! Stage 1: We didn't do it Stage 2: If we did it (which we didn't), then it didn't give us a competitive advantage Stage 3: If we did it (which we didn't), and it gave us a competitive advantage (which it didn't), then everyone else is cheating too And no, videotaping wasn't legal when they were caught and punished for it...so spake the letter sent to every NFL team back in 2006: “No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches’ booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game,” the league’s Game Operations Manual reads. He also cited a letter that the league sent to teams in September 2006. “Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines,” it read, in part, a phrase indicating foreshadowing or the sense that the rule needed clarification. As to Deflategate, well, explain this: A team equipment handler who calls himself "The Deflator" illegally takes the footballs from the locker room to the field unsupervised, stopping along the way at a restroom that is not monitored by video. He's in there for long enough to (according to independent experiments) deflate 12 footballs appreciably. When questioned about why he stopped at that restroom, he responded that he dropped the balls to his left and used a urinal to his right, at which time he was informed that the restroom actually doesn't have a urinal. Then, of course, there's the fact that Jastremski basically admits to something being up when he texts Brady that the team's equipment manager "knows it's unlikely that you did it yourself". But hey, let's stick to the "nothing to see here" narrative. Did it make a real difference in the game? No, I can't believe that it did. But please stop acting like your team is holier-than-thou when it comes to this stuff--they will literally try anything to get ahead.
  8. One thing that fares well in Nylander's favor is that he has speed; most of the competition at wing are leftovers from Murray's size obsession. The only real speed threat that looks to be on the roster is Ennis; this team needs more speed on the boundary to create opportunities in transition. There are scant few guys that can keep up with the playmaking ability this team has down the middle with ROR/Jack/Samson. I know that I'm in the minority, but I'd really like to see Reinhart centering the 3rd line in '17-'18. It'll give him more opportunities to go against 3rd pairings and pile up points a la the Roy/Vanek/Maxim line in 2007. Pair ROR with Okposo and a speed forward from FA like Chiasson. Give Jack Kane (or Bailey/Fasching if Kane is traded) and Nylander (or Baptiste if Alex isn't ready). Ennis can play 3rd line wing with Samson and Moulson. You can then roll out a 4th line of Girgensons/Larsson/Foligno that can play the checking role and also offer scoring potential.
  9. Not hard to figure out really; there are plenty of players every year that pile up receiving yards without their QB being the team MVP. From 2016 alone, we can include Mike Evans, Jarvis Landry, Travis Kelce, and Demaryius Thomas just as examples.
  10. I still think Jordan Todman would be a smart pickup
  11. Team MVP: LeSean McCoy Offensive breakout star: Sammy Watkins Defensive breakout star: Micah Hyde Special teams breakout star: Steven Hauschka Most improved: Marcell Dareus Most declined: Eric Wood Rookie of the year: Tre White Best 2017 Free Agent: Micah Hyde Worst 2017 Free Agent: Vlad Ducasse Bounce Back Player: (Guy who had a bad 2016) Sammy Watkins "You still got it": Jerry Hughes Bonus: Who sets a single season Bills record OR what Bills Season record is broken as a team? Sammy Watkins - most WR yards in a season
  12. It's not even close: the triple bacon cheeseburger at McDonald's--when they had the Bills-related promo during the fall, that sucker was $4. Made for a great addition to the 2016 bulking program
  13. Relax...I found the Bell situation funny and decided to post it here.
  14. I wonder if Steeler fans are upset about this... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/06/26/leveon-bell-looking-healthy-on-basketball-court/
  15. What they have in common is a very high level of talent at every level of the defense. Each team has outstanding talent along the DL, at LB, and in the secondary (including both corner spots and the safeties). And again, look at my original post:
  16. Stop putting words into my mouth. In general, the cornerback play has not been the limiting factor in the defense's ability to stop NE. If you read my original post in this thread, you'd know that I never said it was all about scheme; that was a point that you apparently believe and felt was appropriate to project onto my post. It's a combination of scheme and personnel; hence why only 2 teams in the league have had success against them. Or in other words; go back and read my 1st post in this thread without an agenda.
  17. No...it's a way of saying that they approached the game differently than Buffalo. Rex's D (and Schwartz's for that matter) asked their corners to play sticky in coverage and prevent completions; Seattle and Denver ask their corners to beat up WRs at the LOS to disrupt timing and take away the easy YAC opportunities.
  18. I don't think it's a coincidence that McDermott & Co. prefer tough, long-armed corners that can press/bail and tackle. One of the reasons that NE has struggled (relatively) with Denver and Seattle is that they're willing to rough up the WRs and do what's necessary to get pressure on Brady. Part of that is having safeties that can play like LBs against the run so as not to sacrifice integrity on the interior when telling your front-4 and slot corner to play solely pass-focused defense.
  19. I suppose anything's possible, but that seems a flimsy explanation at best based on what we know of Tywin...I'll also add that trying to have him killed by putting him at the head of a vanguard and later sentencing him to death doesn't exactly smack of protecting him. IMO, the only way Tyrion survives if he's not Tywin's son is if Tywin didn't know about it.
  20. How could he possibly usurp the throne?
  21. You've read about a different Tywin than me... Anyway, he told Tyrion very plainly "you are my son" when he made him hand in his stead. Also, GRRM gave a very measure response when asked by a reader who named Jon Snow... 5. Since all of their mothers died, who gave Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister their names? Mothers can name a child before birth, or during, or after, even while they are dying. Dany was most like named by her mother, Tyrion by his father, Jon by Ned. This quote was long used as evidence that Jon was not Ned's son, since GRRM didn't use the word "father" to describe Ned (we now know that this logic was sound). Tyrion, by contrast, was "named by his father"--Tywin.
  22. Possibly...my only hangup with that is that so much of the supposition regarding Tyrion's lineage is how Tywin treated him and said he wasn't his son...well, there's at least one instance in both the books and the show where Tywin specifically tells Tyrion "you're my son".
  23. An answer to your answer...
  24. I think the 3rd head of the dragon is the only remaining character with Targaryen blood that isn't Jon or Dany...
