I don't think you're getting it. The point here is very, very simple: you don't need to pay a guy $15M per to do what Landry does; you can find much cheaper options to play that role.

You are making my point with these numbers. The Adams contract was silly; there's absolutely no way that Landry should be getting anywhere near the money that Brown or Green get. Again, I cite guys like Adam Thielen, Doug Baldwin, and Golden Tate, who produce on par with Landry for far, far less money. Hey, I hope Miami or NE or someone in the AFC decides to pay Landry. Go right ahead. It's not my team, and it's not my money...and I'm grateful that both are true.

NFL.com's next gen stats does a pretty decent job of encapsulating the data. If we're talking about moving the sticks, Landry had 16 more first downs--1 per game--than Jeffery (who, again, is simply a guy that I picked as an example). Per ESPN, every single one of the guys that I listed above with similar targets (Brown, Fitz, Allen, Thomas, and Julio) had more receptions for 1st downs than Landry in 2017. If the guy produces fewer yards, TDs, and 1st downs than guys with similar target share, why am I supposed to pay him like those guys? If I'm Miami, I'd much rather let him walk, get my comp pick in 2019, and draft someone on day 2 that can produce nearly the same numbers for 10% of what Landry will cost.

Because he outpaces him in targets by 40% Look at 2017 alone: Landry gets 161 targets to Jeffery's 120, but manages a mere 200 more yards on 55 additional receptions, and they had the same number of TDs. My points is simply this: Landry is a guy that needs a crazy number of targets in order to produce anything close to WR1 numbers. In contrast, guys with similar number of targets like Antonio Brown, Larry Fitzgerald, Keenan Allen, Michael Thomas, and Julio Jones manage to produce far more yards and a far greater number of big plays. I'm not willing to pay a guy like Landry the same coin as those guys for lesser production. He's a chain-mover; the job he does can be done by lower-paid players with negligible difference in overall offensive output. Case-in-point: look at the numbers produced by guys like Golden Tate, Adam Thielen, Mo Sanu, and Doug Baldwin on fewer targets. The on-field value to what he brings isn't worth the kind of money he's seeking, and that's without factoring in his attitude.

In some areas, yes. In others not so much. Run D stayed fairly similar - 3.9 YPC allowed in 2016 vs 4.0 in 2017 Pass D went from allowing 7.5 YPA with 47 sacks in 2016 to 7.2 with 50 sacks in 2017 Biggest difference was that they took the ball away more in 2016 than in 2017. As to EDGE rushers; this is simply a tough year to need one. The team is probably better off trying to improve their interior and hope that Shaq/Hughes can reap the benefits of more inside pressure and trying to upgrade next offseason than tearing it apart; too many other areas of need to create new ones right now. Of course, you're still looking at big needs on the interior of the OL and at WR next offseason, so they'll have to be smart about how they upgrade "secondary" needs right now--the way they handle positions like CB, LB, and backup RB will tell you a lot about how forward thinking they are with their approach to asset allocation.

I think Woz is a perfect TE2 for any offense. Doesn't quite have the athletic ability of Martellus Bennett, but come from the same cloth in terms of play style--but he's bigger and hopefully more focused

I think it's either Gaines or a UFA like Rahsaan Melvin, who may come in slightly below market for a UFA CB under 30. As for WR, I'm not moving off of my November call for Paul Richardson. Grab those two guys and a value DL guy like Daquan Jones or Justin Ellis and you can call FA a relative success given where this team is needs-wise.

That's why it's critical, IMO, that they are aggressive at WR/CB in FA. I think they can fill those holes fairly readily if they come in prepared.

I don't see any reason for him to refuse to be honest. He's the 5th highest-paid OT in the NFL, and if he agrees to make the swtich, he's unlikely to be going anywhere for at least another 2 years. In those 2 years, he'll pocket $20.5M in cash If the team decides to move on from him at that point and sign Dawkins to a LT deal, he'll be hitting the open market at 30 years old and have 6 years of LT play to his credit. I mean, I suppose he could argue that shifting to RT diminishes his value, but the reality of the situation is that (a) he's being paid as a LT, and (b) he'd be doing the team a solid by moving.

Forgive me for assuming; I think Glenn-to-RT makes a lot of sense given Dawkins' comfort level at LT. I also think that moving a veteran to the opposite side is a safer bet than a young guy. Plus, you have 2 more seasons before you can even consider giving Dawk an extension, so there's no harm in putting your most expensive tackle on the "other" side.
