CB Vontae Davis Has Been Medically Cleared
thebandit27 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem is that he gets nicked up in 50% of the games. No exaggeration; he missed 5 altogether and parts of 3 others. I like the player; it's awfully hard to pay him what he's going to want in light of his availability problem. -

At last, folks are coming around to my offseason plan...where were you all back in November?!?! -
PFF 2018 Free Agency Preview: Buffalo Bills
thebandit27 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, he's productive in terms of receptions, but again, production is a direct function of targets, whereas targets aren't directly related to separation achieved (insofar as it's tracked by NextGenStats). As to what Landry lacks, he hasn't the size, speed, or contested catch ability of the top guys. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice player. If I'm a team that's spending WR1 $$ in FA, I'm looking for more. -

You're missing the point in spectacular fashion. The guy puts up high reception totals because he gets a sick number of targets. His per-target production is far, far below the elite WRs like Julio/Antonio/Hopkins, but he's going to want the same type of money. That's absurd IMO. Get it now? -

His efficiency numbers are brutal. He needs an outlandish number of targets to hit 1,000 yards. Case-in-point: he ranked 88th in the NFL in yards per target https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/jarvis-landry/ -

I wouldn't sign Jarvis Landry with someone else's money. He's going to want the big-time money after leading the NFL in receptions, and I'm sorry, but a guy that catches 6-yard passes all game simply isn't worth that. -
Colts to interview Leslie Frazier for HC

Indeed, which is why I immediately thought that Babich would be the guy. Richard would make a lot of sense too--forgot that Seattle let him go. -

Without question that's true. And I think it follows logically that whoever the next DC would be would still be implementing and operating McDermott's scheme -
Guess the QB Carousel Game
thebandit27 replied to BrooklynBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll place my bet: BUF - Mason Rudolph and vet FA like Chase Daniel or Derek Anderson NYJ - Sam Darnold (6th overall) CLE - Baker Mayfield (4th overall) backing up AJ McCarron JAX - Bortles DEN - Kirk Cousins NYG - Josh Rosen (2nd overall) backing up Eli Manning WAS - Alex Smith MIN - Teddy Bridgewater (contract tolled) backing up Case Keenum ARI - Lamar Jackson backing up Nick Foles -

He can't simply take his assistants with him; they aren't being given de facto promotions, so they don't have to be let out of their contracts. -

Oh stop. The last time our DC was "plucked", we ended up improving dramatically. I would bet that--if Frazier got the job--McDermott would promote Babich to DC since he's been one before. -
Josh McDaniels Withdraws from Colts' HC Job

Too bad your team couldn't beat a backup QB when it mattered -

Grow up We talk about NFL topics that may not be about the Bills. We talked about Nick Sabah when he tucked tail and ran; ditto for Bobby Petrino. Deal with it Or go away As for your contention that this somehow is not on McDaniels for what he did to his assistants, that's utter hogwash. There is absolutely no way that he didn't assemble his own staff. Those guys left jobs and we're hung out to dry. -
If you're looking for guys that fit the criteria long the front 7, here are some that are scheduled to be UFAs come March 14: DT - Justin Ellis (Oak), DaQuan Jones (Ten), Jay Bromley (NYG) EDGE - Alex Okafor (NO), Chris Smith (Cin) LB - Anthony Hitchens (Dal), Jon Bostic (Ind), Tahir Whitehead (Det)

Groy will fill in perfectly at center
thebandit27 replied to Da webster guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have different names attached to the new guys, but in general I agree with that approach. I'm happy going into the offseason with a starting lineup of Dawkins-Richie-Groy-Miller-Glenn. My swing interior guy would be Zach Fulton; he'll be inexpensive and has experience at both guard and center. I'd like to draft a tackle in the mid-rounds, but if I go FA then a guy like Waddle might make some sense. I also think it's not outside the realm of reality that they simply let Mills and McDermott battle it out for the swing OT job. -
He checks multiple boxes for what McDermott likes: he can cover, he can range sideline to sideline, and he's versatile. He'd be a good get IMO

For sure...I've been thinking that they may end up grabbing a guy like Chad Thomas (just as an example) higher on day 2 than they'd like to just because the EDGE guys will go quickly. Bad, bad year to need a pass rusher, which is why a guy like Quinn would make sense if LA releases him. It's also why I'm coming around on the idea that they'll end up hanging onto Hughes, Lawson, and maybe even LorAx, just because they'll need warm bodies at the EDGE spots. -
Not in the exact same way as the Rams or Cardinals, but yes. He used Thomas Davis (a former safety) in that role in Carolina, and the team drafted Shaq Thompson (a former safety and RB) back in 2015, and he plays that role as well.
-
Hybrid safety/LB role--basically a box safety that plays LB full time, but also draws slot coverage responsibilities.

Amerson, and I've been vocal about wanting to flip a late-round pick for him in the event that Gaines walked, so I'm a bit biased toward him. I have to admit that I had that in mind when I made this thread. Dallas has already said that they'd tag Lawrence sans a long-term deal. Ansah is probably going to sign for upwards of $15M AAV, so I don't think he's in play for Buffalo. Barron has been playing the "moneybacker" spot for the Rams the last 3 years.

I wouldn't prioritize drafting a center; I think they have enough picks to get one at some point I'm prioritizing QB and DL in the draft because I think that's the fastest path to having a team that can compete for the next 3-4 years.
