  1. No idea why that creature thought he could continue to hang out in that region... and especially anywhere near Moscow. You would figure a supervillian like that would have much better instincts of self-preservation.
  2. This hits the nail on the head. I don't think it is unbreakable like Cy Young's wins or Glenn Hall's consecutive games as a goalie or anything like that. But highly unlikely. A pass rusher can put together a few superb seasons, but they are going to get schemed out a bit. Players are held out due to health more, careers are shorter. Coaching is more technical than ever where a dominant pass rusher will be nerfed quite a bit over time. IMO the 'greats' will top out around 150 sacks.
  3. Its tough to say. I don't think it would be eternal/infinite... but maybe could extend our consciousness well into triple digits. The problem is, are we going to damage the earth/each other, will there be a doomsday virus, etc? Maybe? Maybe not? Also, can/would humans handle the idea of doubling/tripling/quadrupling our lifespans? Will it be a perk sold only to the extreme wealthiest families in the world? If it is more widely available, would we have the guardrails to control the population levels?
  4. He got some criticism from other fans because of his over the top goal calls and excitement. Also painting the other team as villainous thugs vs the righteous sabres when it came to fights... But I would always point out. If you listen to an opposing goal in a vacuum, RJ put 10x more into those goals than any other home/regional pbp announcer.
  5. That was the perfect combo. A lot of people kind of hated on Lorentz at the time... he was kind of a dull captain obvious. But once he left, the Sabres couldn't ever replace that chemistry. Even with hall of fame Harry Neale, it was kind of a disaster. They couldn't have 2 goofballs. They needed the straight man to go with RJ. Kind of like the Don cherry/Ron Maclean chemistry. RJ and Lorentz just fit perfectly. Anyways, this is a day I have dreaded to some degree for about 30 years. In high school, I'm pretty sure I listened to more rj calls captured on cassette tape than any music album or track. He is every sabres fans' surrogate grandpa. It's a tough day. I also regret (although it isn't my fault), that other than 2 seasons, the Sabres were so dismal on the back 40% of his career.
  6. I haven't watched ESPN (or any television per se) in several years. I guess part of it was the proliferation of so many sports channels including MLB/NFL/NHL networks. 20-25 years ago, the main NFL pregame theater was ESPN Game Day, then NFL Primetime was a must-watch. NBC took it over with their recap/pregame show (which they do a good job of). ESPN was pretty much the only sports channel for 2 decades other than RSNs that came along in the 90s. Also I am 100% streaming now and have been for a long time. The only sports I really consume are live sports (also watch old stuff on youtube). I would say that ESPN's live sports coverage is still really solid, and I could make a case that they do the best job with MLB, NHL, and NCAA Football. I have no interest in watching the ancillary programming like the 'debate' shows. Not that I hate it, I just dont have time for it. I flip around the radio and come across Cowherd and Rome and dont mind hearing their points of view even if I disagree. I do really like their app and program offerings, as well as their integration with Hulu. There is a ton of stuff on Espn+ and Espn3 such as Indoor Lacrosse that can be accessed with a click of a button. I think their app is great for scores/highlights/standings lookups and I am in the habit of using that. I think they get too much hate for sucking now. Its the natural progression. There is so much competition now. If they ran their programming they had in 1995 and showed the same sportcenter 6 times on loop (that many of us watched), they would be driven right out of business. What they need to do is look to the future and innovate to survive. Make an immersive and better-than netflix-style subscription app that is a must-have for sports fans and completely decouple from needing cable subscriber/carriage fees.
  7. well, they did sign Aaron Judge to a $360,000,000 contract, and they are paying that Human Gourd Gioncarlo Stanton $32 Million/Year (and his contract goes through most of this decade). $80 Million in this year's payroll is sitting on IR. ($21 Million to Josh Donaldson?) Their payroll is still very high. Just not Mets-ludicrous. The money is just allocated poorly and they seem behind the times. Especially, much like the AFC East, the traditional doormats seem to have gotten their houses in order.
  8. I listened in the back end of his radio days. Then I went to Sirius. His channels were a really cool thing for the time. I thought it was a really good show for awhile. Got repetitive in the later Artie days and suffered a bit more after he left and nobody filled that role. Sirius was quickly made obsolete by internet clouds, radio, and podcasts, they made it a huge pain to keep my bargain price and I ditched it 10ish years ago and havent heard Howard since
  9. Classic Games is kind of a hobby of mine. I have all my old systems and games dating back to NES. Also have bought all the "classic" consoles that have been released from Atari to PS1. I created a Retropie/Raspberry Pi console that contains all games from the Ataris to PS1. Even the handheld stuff. My smartphone also has many games and I have a controller-dock and I can play any retro game handheld. It is interesting going back and seeing what games aged well, and seeing how challenging things are. There are games I used to play/succeed at that the older me is completely overcome by. Other games (Blaster Master comes to mind) I couldnt really get through, I am stronger at now. Its interesting seeing certain games that are absolute dog-poo and its amazing those cost $30-$50 back in the day
  10. Yeah, that's what I meant. Essentially the separation between the power conferences and mid majors is going to be much more tangible.
  11. So essentially, we are bounding toward a true minor league NFL tryout league that will decouple from NCAA. I get the evolution, but I hate it. I wish we could have gotten some releases of EA NCAA Football before it got ruined. Essentially, UB/the MAC is IA football now. The question is, would you rather be that? Or be the likes of Rutgers who will be a bunch of human pinatas in the big leagues?
  12. And to join the "theirs looks cooler" fray. Yeah, Nashville looks great for that city. It has emerged as a Vegas of the East. Destination. It has all sorts of decks people can stand on and socialize, look out on the activity in the city, etc. It looks perfect for Nashville. Good for them and their city. Buffalo's stadium was designed to fit Buffalo and our fans. We are football-focused. The emphasis seems to be in the seats and on the field. We cant have an open end or many 'character' type of elements that New England or Seattle have for example as the wind is/can be just too severe. With being enclosed, we are pretty much getting as close to an indoor stadium as possible without going indoor. Say what you want about indoor vs outdoor (I personally think indoor venues lack character, especially considering we would likely get/afford a cookie-cutter one like Detroit. Every game seems miscellaneous and the same. Here, the weather, temp, etc is part of the story and adds a dimension. In Detroit, SNF looks like a 1PM game. In our current stadium, Primetime games look special). I think the enclosed stadium and design will make the interior extremely noisy and it should bring most/all NFL stadiums to shame. The only reason we arent the loudest is all the open space Highmark has (and KC's is basically enclosed). I am also a little puzzled as why we have only gotten a small handful of very simplistic renderings with little detail. Will they come out with a bunch more once PSLs become available to try to maximize the hype to reduce sticker shock?
  13. I just hope they dont start skrimping on some things and cutting costs for cheaper, less durable building materials, and cheaper seats and such. The Arena downtown is a decent example of that. It is clearly a lot cheaper than its contemporaries and it shows in so many ways and now we are stuck with a bad arena, poorly designed, and bad sight lines.
  14. This guy was terrific. He was a great follow on social media. Just oozed positivity and humor. Nobody knew he had cancer probably because he unselfishly didnt want to bring anyone down. Get together with some friends, smoke a joint, and watch Pee Wee's Big Adventure. It is a masterpiece
  15. I strained my calf before. Was pretty painful. Was chasing a pop fly in baseball... it felt like someone punched my calf as hard as they could. I thought it was my Achilles. Made it very tough to be doing any sort of running motion for quite a bit. I'm sure nfl players have access to much better healing and pain suppressing measures than I though
  16. I did Coy Wire and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Antoine Winfield was a foolish Bills/Vikings pick
  17. My exact thought. Ha. If I liked golf at all, Id probably be looking up how much that cost
  18. 8 teams in the East of the worst 10. 5 Of those in the Atlantic Division or whatever its called. Only Detroit, the Sabres, and Montreal don't appear in the worst 10 (all 3 are top 10). Not that it is a true indicator of future results, but it is a good omen that the guard will be changing. Especially since Tampa and Boston are a few of the older teams in the league (as are the Islanders). Pittsburgh and Washington are older and have already hit the pavement a bit... and Toronto seems to have a possible major transition on their hands if they do not succeed this season.
  19. add the Broncos too (not originals, but the 70s-mid 90s look) I also think tennessee's uniform designs are dated back to a weird uniform craze in the late 90s and early 00s that brought about theirs, Denver, Patriots, Bills' pajama uniforms, etc
  20. Seattle is such an improvement and they should make those their primary/permanent look
  21. Are these owners who applied for teams? Or is it the league currently maintaining ownership of all the teams for now? I suspect it is the latter. Just by seeing that list, I would say they missed the mark and the league will (again) fail. The league needs to start small, regional, and build-out. You have a team in Boise, and a team in Louisiana. That is stupid. Oregon stretching to Orlando If it were me, I would try to find markets, who are normally a captive audience to sports, and keep it relatively within a regional foot-print. Possibly have a number of other cities in mind for another division in the future. Preferably in cities who do not have both NHL and NBA. I would start at 5-8 teams. Iowa (to capitalize on the nostalgia), Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Buffalo?, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Nashville, KC. Possibilities would include St Louis, Omaha, and Columbus
  22. Im a fan who is fairly comfortable with McDermott, but I agree that his job SHOULD be on the line if they dont at least make the AFCCG. However, I do not think the thought will cross ownership's mind (and I suspect it is not Beane's decision at all) The only way McDermott's job will be in true jeopardy is if this season is a special kind of disaster. 3rd or 4th in the division, no playoffs, embarrassing lockerroom trouble/loss off control, etc.
  23. The guy sounds really full of himself. Like he sought a reporter to talk about how he hitched a ride with McDermott and spoke about all his own coaching philosophies and his 'bright' future
  24. I went through a stretch in college or so for about 3-5 years that I watched a lot/followed WWF. It was probably during the most prime years (about 1999-2002-2003). It was great entertainment. It is/was fake, but man those guys took risks and put their health on the line. Many wrestlers died young or are disabled to some degree. That isn't fake. ECW was also ridiculous fun to watch late night on Empire Sports Network in the mid 90s. It got super repetitive and predictable though and I got bucked off. I have tried to watch it a few times in recent years, but I just can't. It is very bland, very stretched out, they play it very safe, etc. I think my 10 year old kid may get exposed to it soon, we will see if he drags me into it for a stretch. I went to an indy promotion in the fall at riverworks. That was really awesome. Its cheesy, sleazy, and all that... but that is what is great about it. Go with friends, pound beers, get into it.... and its a riot. I have a friend who is a pro wrestler on Canadian circuits and he does amazing stuff.
