Should kids get participation trophies for playing sports?
May Day 10 replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
We got them, from the mid-eightees when I started in youth sports. We would all get little trophies with our team/season. It made me happy. The "championship" team would get a set of larger trophies. We never felt like we "won it all" because we got the small plastic trophies". In like 20-25 years of baseball, I never was on a team who won a league championship. We knew who won. We all wanted to win, despite knowing we would get the trophies. Mainly thinking of baseball and hockey. I think they stopped when we were like 14, which is fine. My kid is 5 right now and plays instructional hockey and baseball. They don't keep score, and they get a trophies after every season and my kid carries it around like the stanley cup and they sit on his dresser. He also is competitive as hell and is obsessed about winning, scores, etc. I don't think the 2 are related. I also think keeping score at the ages of 4-7 would be somewhat destructive. -

Yes. Nothing wrong with it. Its just a talking point for miserable people. I got them 35 years ago and they were great, and we would always look forward to them, and i never turned into some helpless adult who wants to climb back into the womb. -
attendence should picks up next year
May Day 10 replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The writing on the wall was clear early in the season. Many realistic fans expected 4-7 wins, but the ravens and chargers games made it crystal clear that this was a transitional throw away season at best, nfl record breaking futility at the worst. -
Chargers vs Ravens: Who will beat the Patriots?

Buffalo's reputation amongst free agents
May Day 10 replied to clayboy54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think mcdermott improves the desirability of the team. I think he treats the players very fairly and with respect. Pegulas are good owners too. Wont try to nickel and dime players unless its directly cap related, and also had the players' back vs Trump when poop hit the fan There is still a stigma of losing, and players' inability to put up big numbers for future paydays. Also the whole culture of buffalo vs the top cities in the usa hurts, but can be overcome if the motor gets primed and the team becomes a place where players can flourish -
What’s your definition of a pot head?

For me, its someone who "needs" to smoke before normal things like social events and gatherings. -
How Much Pressure Was Doug Whaley Under To Win?
May Day 10 replied to BillyWhiteShows's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brandon and Whaley were under a lot of pressure. Both with middling results, despite long tenures/involvement, as well as "proving" themselves to new ownership. The Watkins trade and the other trade ups, Clay signing, etc were a direct results of flailing around trying to save their hides. I hope that Beane and McDermott feel comfortable right now (I think they do). They need to continue to do everything the right way with the long-view on the mind. Now if the team stays in neutral or takes a step back in 2019, GM and HC need to be re-evaluated in the offseason.... but I really believe they are locked in until halfway through 2020 at a minimum. -
I like it, tbh

Difference Between NCAA and NFL Head Coach
May Day 10 replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
College athletes are 18-22/23 year olds who are a captive audience. The top tier are playing for what amounts to potential lottery winnings. The coach has complete control of the situation and are basically teflon. NFL you have adult players with piles of money and guaranteed/bonus money. They are all, to a degree jaded about management and much more difficult to motivate. Also, they know that when push comes to shove, its easy to get a coach fired. NCAA coaches also have the ability to heavily stack the deck in their favor on a talent level, where in the NFL, you have things like the salary cap and the draft. Recruiting is also a very important NCAA skill set not entirely transferable to NFL success. -
2018 is in the Books - what are the initial thoughts?
May Day 10 replied to dubs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They exceeded my expectations by a win, and allen is further along than i could have hoped. They are on track imo, but will need to take a step up next season. -

Our coach...say what you want but he's a class act.
May Day 10 replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he is good. He seems like a great leader. Im not completely bullish on him, but looking forward to see how far he can take them with a capable offense. They overachieved in 2017, and again in 2018. I thought 4 or 5 wins going in, and 0-3 wins after the first 2 weeks. -
No more notre dame in the tournament until they join a conference. Waste of a slot. Its like the movie great white hype until they get their clocks cleaned. Strategic scheduling wont fluke them a national championship.

Brady says he plans to play in 2019 and beyond...
May Day 10 replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think next year is his last year. I predict he will take a step back, as will the pats. The team will see the writing on the wall and not be in a hurry to give a new contract at a rate that is greater than the player's current value. They will also be serious about getting a 22 year old playmaking qb who will/would give brady serious competition. Brady doesnt want to be benched, and likely knows he would be humbled without belichick and in his 40s playing for the Broncos or raiders. -
Father Time is finally catching up with Brady
May Day 10 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brady looks shakier than he ever has. He may be hurt, but hurt is part of getting old and not getting hurt was part of bradys mystique. At 40, injuries are chronic, dont heal, and compound. Add all the extra rehab work to a guy who already seemingly had a foot out the door, and i dont know. -
Pyramid scheme or MLM?
May Day 10 replied to Not at the table Karlos's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It puts a strain on a friendship, depending on how pushy the "sales rep" I mean business "owner" is, and how their personality is. Some expect their friends and family to be supportive of "their" business, and anything less than hosting parties and/or regularly buying crap is not supporting a friend/family member. -
Pyramid scheme or MLM?
May Day 10 replied to Not at the table Karlos's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Another one are these "parties". Like that 31 club for women or whatever its called My wife has a friend in this that is always hounding her to gather her family members for a "31 party" so they can sit there on their free time and feel uncomfortable/pressured to by cheap and ugly crap. -
Where does everyone stand on this lost season?
May Day 10 replied to Dadonkadonk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was expecting this. I was a bit freaked out when they were playing like one of the worst teams ever, but morphed into what i expected. I think they are on the right track, and the past 2 seasons were transition years (playoff run was an unexpected and unplanned fluke). This offseason we will hopefully really see it start to take form -

2019 Renewed Optimism - for real this time

Pyramid scheme or MLM?
May Day 10 replied to Not at the table Karlos's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I know a guy who got in on Beachbody and has carved himself a pretty good career.... but he is basically a glorified sales rep who needs to dedicate a social media presence blending his person with the products. On the other hand, I know dozens of people who have done that and have gotten nowhere fast.
