Good for Tucker. He deserves it. We never should have cut him, injury or not.

John Riggins.

I feel a bit like Vito Corleone, actually, when I view the carnage of this season. "Look-a what they done to my boy."
-
Yeah, what was his excuse for that? That he wanted to stay home in Mississippi and work out? Funny how he wouldn't go to Buffalo to work with JP but he didn't have a problem going to Malibu to work out with RJ in the 1999 offseason.

Quit beating yourselves up over the Bills

Wow... all I had to do was walk across Broad Street from my office. Relph was a supreme talent here at McQuaid. He's had a rough go of it in college (not unlike former McQ stars Ryan Pettinella and Chris Fox) but hopefully when he gets healthy he'll be a star again. -
I have to admit, when Evans got his third TD in ten minutes, my first thought was "EM is gonna be pissed." Perhaps Moulds thought he should have been the one to get Losman's third TD pass.

Ex-Penn assistant Steve Donahue, much as it pains me to admit it, has built a very strong team at Cornell these last couple of years; just ask Jim Boeheim. That said, I was at the Bonnies-WVU game and was very impressed by their 21-0 run to come back from down 45-25 in the second half -- and all without a single trey, if I recall right. They stayed in it the rest of the way and had a chance to win it. Trade Tyler Relph back for Mike Gansey and the Bonnies win that game going away. -
Bills and Safeties (the 2 point kind)
BRH replied to sweet baboo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Phil Hansen dropped Barry Sanders in the end zone for a safety at the Ralph in 1997 or thereabouts, and it basically won the game, or at least iced it. Now, as for safeties on quarterbacks, I have no idea. -

Let's take a look at who the coaches were during these cycles. And I would argue that 1982 (the strike year) was not "bad;" they were 5-4 and I'll give Knox a pass there. 1960-1962-Bad -- GARRARD RAMSEY (2), LOU SABAN (1) 1963-1966-Good -- LOU SABAN (3), JOE COLLIER (1) 1967-1972-Bad -- JOE COLLIER (1), JOHN RAUCH (2), HARVEY JOHNSON (2), LOU SABAN (1) 1973-1975-Good -- LOU SABAN (3) 1976-1979-Bad -- JIM RINGO (2), CHUCK KNOX (2) 1980-1982-Good -- CHUCK KNOX (3) 1983-1987-Bad -- KAY STEPHENSON (2), HANK BULLOUGH (2), MARV LEVY (1) 1988-1993 Great -- MARV LEVY (6) 1994 Bad -- MARV LEVY (1) 1995-1996 Good -- MARV LEVY (2) 1997 Bad -- MARV LEVY (1) 1998-1999 Good -- WADE PHILLIPS (2) 2000-2005 Bad -- WADE PHILLIPS (1), GREGG WILLIAMS (3), MIKE MULARKEY (2) So, what do we have? Great and Good: Marv Levy (8), Lou Saban (6), Chuck Knox (3) Wade Phillips (2), Joe Collier (1). Bad: Garrard Ramsey (2), John Rauch (2), Harvey Johnson (2), Jim Ringo (2), Kay Stephenson (2), Hank Bullough (2), Gregg Williams (3), Mike Mularkey (2), Marv Levy (4), Chuck Knox (2), Lou Saban (1), Joe Collier (1). Okay, now. Let's leave off Phillips and Collier since they were basically continuing with the nucleus that the previous coach left them, and they left the program in worse shape than they found it. Let's also disregard Levy's, Saban's and Knox's "bad" seasons since they generally came while taking over for a putrid predecessor and they left the program in better shape than they found it. Wht do we have left? Good: Levy, Saban, Knox. Bad: Ramsey, Rauch, Johnson, Ringo, Stephenson, Bullough, Williams, Mularkey. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you what the problem is. -

Do the words "Chuck Knox" mean anything to you? That guy had a great run with the Rams in the '70s and although he never got to the SB, he was very highly regarded and, as I recall, very well-compensated (for the times) to come here. In fact I still remember the headline in the D&C when he was hired: "Knox Banks On Buffalo." -
What does it for me is the way he completely mangles all but the most easily pronounceable names. Time was Bob could be seen regularly at World Wide News on St. Paul picking up all the out-of-town papers to get material for his columns. Now he can just sit at his desk and surf the web... not only for column material but also for the other stuff he probably used to pick up at WWN.

Is all of WGOP's content on the web now or just the Bills games? 3...2...1 before this gets moved to PPP

They're in; they went in in 1994.
-
Yeah that's also a good way to move the Bills out of Buffalo. Anyway are people just NOW noticing this? I have gone to Bills games since 1979 and I remember people being even drunker and rowdier then. The overriding memory of my first game, besides Steve Grogan throwing two long TDs to Stanley Morgan, was seeing fans casually ringed around the bathroom sink...and they weren't washing their hands.

Bingo. I submit that giving up those two monstrous, clock-chewing drives at home with the crowd on its feet and screaming is more pitiful than anything the offense did yesterday. This was even more infuriating than the Jacksonville game last year. In that one, the game-winning drive was basically two plays -- the long pass to Jimmy Smith that Clements didn't knock down, and the pass to Wilford in the back of the end zone. In this one, the entire defense got its ass beat for eight minutes, had six chances to get off the field on third down, and didn't come through once. And if they were tired, it's their own damn fault for not getting off the field. Big talkers, small walkers. That's our defense.

There was a play a month or so ago, I forget against whom. Might have been the New England night game. Anyway, Big Sam just got absolutely pancaked by his blocker. I mean, literally flipped upside down and on his back. That should never happen to a 380-pounder who is just one season removed from the Pro Bowl. It wasn't long after that when Sam came out and stayed on the sidelines for much of the rest of the game. What we're seeing now is hardly surprising. I think Sharpe was right. When Sam is up for the game and he's on, he's unstoppable. But dude just doesn't feel like playing football. He's the DL's equivalent of Mike Williams. Get them both out of here and get some guys in here who will give 100%.

Random observations from the game.
BRH replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're not kidding about aggravating. Try this on for size: Last week, the Bills scored just ten points against a defense coached by Wade Phillips. This week, the Bills gave up two monstrous clock-killing drives at the beginning and end of the game to an offense coached by Dan Henning. -
That's the only thing that matters. The offense gave the defense a three-point lead with more than ten minutes to play. Eight minutes later the offense got the ball back down four with two minutes left. Our D got pushed all the way down the field IN OUR OWN HOUSE and, when they finally mustered up enough pride to stop a couple of goal-line rushes, all it did was give our offense less time to come back. Getting whacked around for eight minutes on the game-winning drive is understandable on the road. At HOME it's friggin' inexcusable.

Wow he can team with Victor Allotey to give us one hell of a right side of the line.
-
You're probably right, but you don't address an O-line's failings in one off-season. It is reasonable to assume, however, that a decent general manager can build a decent O-line -- particularly one coached for the last two years by Jim McNally -- over FIVE off-seasons. TD hasn't come close to doing that.
-
How much do you think cutting Tucker helped this team? He wasn't a great talent, but he came to play every Sunday, which is more than I can say for those two sacks of stojan we've had at LG this year.

Something is seriously wrong with offense

Indeed it was. Did anyone shed a tear watching Mike Williams get carted off? That was the best he moved all day. -
And THAT in turn reminds me of one of my favorite South Park exchanges:
