It’s going to be cold tonight late night/early morning
BRH replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m not going, and I’m certainly not sanctioning anything... but good luck with that. -
I've actually seen some Jets fans rooting for us, at least those who live in WNY. Their counterpart Dolphins fans are another story. I think part of that is that we kept Miami and their precious Danny Boy from getting to the big one a few times, including the year we let them win the division but still beat them at their place in the AFC championship. The Jets have never really been good at the same time as the Bills (though they've been bad at the same time a lot), so their fans don't have the same acrimony towards us. Same goes for the few real Pats fans that exist: their team was irrelevant whenever the Bills were good. By the same token, there are a lot of older Chiefs fans who hate the Bills because of what we did to them in the playoffs in the '90s.

Justin Zimmer on Taron Johnson's Pick-6
BRH replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His speed and agility makes him the ideal type of lineman to deal with a Lamar-type QB. He has a role to play on this team, not every week, but when he’s called on he does it well. -
Win big now, or lots of victories but no ring?

This morning I was thinking, what if someone had come to me and said “you can have a Super Bowl victory, but it will cost you a worldwide pandemic”? Good thing I don’t deal in hypotheticals and didn’t make myself answer the question.... -
Chiefs fans get a lot of undeserved praise. They’re pretty annoying and they’re also still pissed that we kept knocking them out of the playoffs in the ‘90s. In ‘95 I happened to be in KC during the summer visiting my grandfather and the Bills were playing the Chiefs in a preseason game, so I went. I wore a Bills shirt but nothing obnoxious. Minding my own business walking through the parking lot on my way into the stadium, a fat lady in a lawn chair caught my eye and silently extended her middle finger at me. Guess you can’t expect much more from a fan base that did the tomahawk chop for years after it was no longer considered cool.

But Josh will always be the first of them to win a playoff game. -

This is a fireable offense. -

That decision to punt was the single dumbest play of the season. -

And now punting from the 40 down four scores. It’s over -
What was just as criminal was the fact that the league didn’t call down to review it. McDermott initially had to waste a timeout to get them to look at it, and they gave it back to him to perpetuate the fiction that the league had called down. In fact, if Rivers had been smart enough to snap the ball quicker, there would have been no review at all. I distinctly remember a fake ref running on the field in Houston last year to stop and review a play in crunch time. Where was that guy today?

A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game, in no particular order
BRH replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So, two questions that keep popping up in this thread: (1) Should we or should we not have "run up the score"? and (2) Did Flores handle Tua correctly this season? To the first question: we didn't run up the score. They kept their starters in, called timeout when down 29, and played to the end. They scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and wanted more. We had mostly backups in from the second-half kickoff onward, including a running back who hadn't been on the active roster all season. Those guys are professionals and they had an opportunity to show their stuff against a first-string defense that was still trying. When the Dolphins got the ball back and immediately turned it over at midfield, it was the perfect opportunity for a deep strike and we took it. It's in no way comparable to when Brady was going up top against us when the Pats were up by 40 or whatever. Just not the same thing. Plus, we've been crying all season about how the team didn't put opponents away when they had the chance. Now we feel guilty because we did? Please. To the second: I'm a big believer in making young guys clean up their own messes. As a youth baseball coach it used to drive me crazy when the opposing pitcher would walk two or three guys and their coach would come out and get him (assuming the pitcher wasn't hurt or tired, of course) and bring in a stud to get out of it. Not because it hurt our team but because it hurt that kid's development. You made the mess; you have to learn how to clean it up. When Flores brought in Tua he was saying: developing this kid is more important than somehow pulling a playoff berth out of our rear ends. And we might not win as many this year as we would with Fitz, but I'm playing the long game and getting this kid ready for the future. But he couldn't stick with it. Winning became more important to him, which is curious because he had so much equity builr up. Even Fins fans had written this season off and were looking to next year when they would have tons of cap room and multiple first-rounders. No one would have batted an eye if he had just ridden it out with Fitz, and who knows, they might have stolen a playoff berth after all and given the team (not just Tua) more valuable high-pressure experience. It's possible that ownership and the front office was jittery because Herbert (who they passed on) was having a breakout rookie season, but Flores should have been strong enough to resist that pressure. Now they have a real question at QB going into next year, and too much bad tape on Tua to get a first-rounder back for him. I don't think Flores trusts him, and I don't think Miami thinks he's their guy. I think they messed this season up and I couldn't be happier. -

I had no issue with it either. It’s mostly our backups out there against their starters. In that situation, let them play. I remember Brady throwing deep against us up 50 to whatever. -
We’ve beaten Aaron Donald, Joey Bosa, and TJ Watt/Cam Heyward. Bring it.
-
He’s averaging the most yards because we almost never punt from midfield or closer. On the (rare)occasions when we have to punt from deep in our own territory, we just tell him, kick the bejeezus out of the ball and flip the field. No coffin-corner or goal-line punts to bring down his gross average.
-
This one. With the shoulder shimmy to go with it. As soon as I saw that, I knew he saw something and was going to capitalize.

Mel Kiper, Jr. as GM candidate? Yeah, it's possible.
BRH replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That’s a great idea. I think he should go to the Jets. -
Exactly. There's giving oneself up to fight another day, and there's turtling. That was definitely the latter.
-
I kind of want NE to beat Miami so we can knock them out of the playoffs in their house next week.
-
Just another reason I want them to win this week so we can knock them out of the playoffs in person next week.

David Patten, but close enough. Lying unconscious out of bounds. I still get conniptions thinking about it.
