I would have done the same thing by now, right down to the SNY, but my elderly father-in-law (also a Mets fan) lives with us and it's actually almost worth the extra expense not to have to teach him how to watch internet TV. We have tried over the years. Our other TVs are variously hooked up to Rokus, Firesticks, and Apple TVs. We hooked up an Apple TV to his screen, showed him how it worked, wrote out the instructions... and he never used it. I still pay for a landline (remember those?) for the same reason. But I did just get the $15 credit from Spectrum. Woo hoo.

I do remember Steve Buechele... he was on a couple of my fantasy teams back then. Hard-nosed third baseman with some pop, mostly for the Rangers. At 6'0" (dad was 6'2") I kind of think he might have been better off playing baseball.

Sure, but there's also something called the Players' Association that would scream bloody murder if players started taking discounts like that. It's one thing for a fading player at the end of his career or someone coming off a debilitating injury to take less money to sign with a winner; it's another for someone to do it who is arguably still in his prime years and hasn't blown out both knees or something like that. You'd better believe the NFLPA pressures its players to get the best deals they can. Unlike with management collusion, that's not an unfair labor practice. And it's also why you never see players grumbling about other guys holding out. They know a rising tide lifts all boats.
