New Defensive Coordinator - George Edwards
High Mark replied to ajm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? They are the same size and have the same strengths as 3-4 DEs do. Stroud is a former all pro and Williams IMO will only improve incredibly in a 3-4. They are both more naturally 3 or 5 tech tackles, not 1 techs. If anything, Williams and Stroud have been playing out of position when they were forced to be 1 techs. Im not sure what type of 3-4 system this new dude employs, but I dont see any problem with asking Williams or Stroud to either penetrete one gap or fill 2 gaps. Why are they not 3-4 DEs? Are you they guy suggesting Kelsay/Schobel/Maybin be our 3-4 DEs? -

I think our roster puts us in the erfect situation to switch. Williams/Stroud look like solid fits at end. Kelsay should have been cut years ago, and Schobel is considering retirement because he wants to be closer to has family- so tradeing him may be best for both parties. Maybin may actually play in a 3-4, so right there be gained a player. That leaves us needing a NT and 1 LB if you figure Maybin/Poz/Mitchel can play. My man Nic Harris may be out of the loop though, bummer. 4-3 we needed a LB for sure and a DL, now we need 1 LB and one NT. Not much of a step back IMO. The NTs are there in FA too. With no cap ramifications, this is the year to cut ties with players and their salaries because of the no cap hit. Perfect timing. The NTs have been discussed, but as far as LB: Peppers wants to play in a 3-4 right? Id give him a shot for sure. Merriman may not be retained in SD. Joey Porter may be on his way out in Miami, and Dansby would be an ILB target. FA looks pretty good for the Bills if they wish to spend some coin. -
Aside from that being a huge stretch, I guess thats ok - as long as you know what you are talkin about with those other prospects. I havent watched any of them so...

I dont really care about the stats. He played very well in every game I saw him. I think its a great idea. But this team has the greatest luxury of all - who knows Thigpen better than Gailey? Almost no one. If Gailey thinks he has what it takes then I would hope he goes after him. If we dont go after him, then I assume its cause Gailey knows he is not worth the effort. I think others out there would be Campbell in Wash or Kitna from Dallas. Kitna is the better short term answer I think. I mean he had a lot of great seasons considering the teams he was on. Garcia is another option. We have many opportunities out there, lets hope we go with one for a change.

"Some people try to find things in this game that don't exist; but football is only two things - blocking and tackling" - Vince Lombardi OL and Defense. I'll side with Vince on this one.

Bills offer assistant GM to Doug Whaley

Nix said he wanted to get some "big nasties". Well the Steelers have been #1 in the league in big nasties since 1970. I presume this takes us one step closer to the 3-4 as well, seeing that both of their scouting backgrounds is in the scheme. -
Sam Bradford on the Dan Patrick Show

Just ask the Jets how great their QB play was as they ran through the playoffs this year. There are more than one way to skin a cat win a superbowl. Itll be easier for us to win it the jets way than the Saints/Colts way. -

Colts to make Peyton Manning highest paid player in NFL
High Mark replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Now with not cap next year, say this contract puts the Colts way over what would have been the cap. Say the Redskins go out and get a $200 million team salary for next year. How do these teams restructure if/when a new cap is put in place? Will they be forced to cut players straight up? Nice to see an owner so willing to pay his talented irreplaceable players, ie Pat Williams. -

Aside from one player (Allen), my point exactly. Dumervil is not elite, he has been a good rusher, but this was his first big time year as far as his career is concerned. Last season was that same - break out once in a career - type season for Harrison. Mathis is not even the top pass rusher on his team. Banta-Cain has started 25 games in his 7 year career, Andre Carter has gotten to double digit sack 3 times in his 9 year career. Orakpo is a rookie. Aside from Allen, none of the players you mentioned have proven to be elite over the years. Some havent even been full time starters throughout their careers. Sure Harrison had a huge year last year, but that was once. Schobel has had that year too (2006), which he followed up with a hugely disappointing season. As far as Allen goes, in 2008 his highest sack game was 2.5, in a year he had 14.5. Same with 2007, when he had 15.5. So sure, he had one season when it was lopsided, but his other season thats not true. Elite players are always dominating. Teams always game plan for them. As the season went on, I saw more and more teams double teaming K.Willaims, and not Schobel. Thats not what happens to the leagues top 1-3 DE. I never said he sucked, I said saying he is better than Allen/Freeney/Peppers/M.Willaims/Ware even the Will Smiths/Merrimans/Suggs - guys who produce vrs constant double teams and come through in clutch situations - is hogwash.

That would be a huge improvement IMO. Hangartner is backup material. Secondly, I really am hoping to get Baluga at 9, then trade back up for Iupati - not nessecarily take Iupati at 9 when Beluga is there. If not, I dont want some T that cant play like T Williams. McClain/Morgan/whoever in the D front 7 is an option too, but I waould like to focus in on an extremely deep, talented OL draft. Getting them both somehow would make our OL rock solid and full of big nasty road graders. I feel Beluga is capable of play LT, but what he may lack as a pass blocker he more than makes up for as a run blocker. The Bills should be run first, pass second anyways - like the Jets where this season. Beluga and Iupati would be a dream scenario.
-
I was merely saying that he has 1 great game a season that balloons his stats to the same level as players actually on the elite leve, when he himself is one tier down from elite. Hench the term outlier Saying Schobel is a top 3 DE in the NFL is hogwash. Top 25-32 yes he is. There are games he dominates, and games he is non-existent. He has too few of the former and too many of the latter to be considered elite. O yea, am I am a season ticket holder, so half the time I dont watch him on tv.
-
We couldnt get Beluga there, but maybe Iupati. Those are the two guys I want.
-
Neither Clausen or Bradford would please me. They arent going to succeed here. Prob not anywhere without a lot fo support. I am all for building a team that can win with any QB, rather than betting the farm on one guy. Lets play dominating D and run the ball. Thats what will win in Buffalo.

We will need all the Wood we can get.
-
I dont count Hangartner as a starter because he is not good enough to lead a playoff caliber line. Incognito may not be back, same with Simmons. That leaves us with Levitre, and maybe Butler if he doesnt play tackle. Thats 1.5 at best because Wood plays center. I say we really need a G, or a 2nd T and move Butler back inside. PS: I hate Pike because he throws a terrible football. It kinda flutters out of his hand on a high arch and no spiral. That **** wont fly in the Buffalo weather. For that reason I also seriously questions his arm strength. His passes have zero zip.

Julius Peppers.....about to become an UFA
High Mark replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would love to see Peppers. But I would rather have a LE thats great against the run and a great rusher like Seymour. With Denneys contract being up and cutting Kelsay, we free up 8-9 Mil I believe and take no cap hit without a CBA. Trading Schobel would bring the total to 15-16 Mil. That 8-9 Mil is enough for Seymour, and the 15-16 is more than enough to bring in Seymour and another vet DE. As bad as I hate Maybin, and how terrible he is, I still think: Maybin&Seymour>Schobel&Kelsay Thats why we should have drafted Orakpo! -
Beluga is the best run blocking LT, thats who I want and it looks like he will be there. If not, I am taking the the best G prospect to come out in years. If he is a perennial pro bowler like they say, I have no problem drafting him at 9 - regardless of position.

I dont buy that cold weather BS. If that were the case the Pats would be on that list. NYC isnt much warmer, just less snow. Beside with 8 home games a year, the Bills play at most 3 really cold games a year. Three days out of 365 they actually play in the cold. I think it comes down to city size/wealth. High class bars and restaurants. Large scale media so they can feel like superstars. Lambo and Ferrari dealerships. People as wealthy as they are to hang with. Buffalo doesnt have that.

The difference between the two is Gerharts incredible balence. Im sticking with Toby, he will be the best RB in this draft when its all said and done.
