Same Play 29x's & Jackson Hawes
machine gun kelly replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. Keep running a play u til they stop it. When i coached i had a series of plays and a sequence until they stopped it. As soon as they did which surprisingly was not often, i then would move to another sequence of plays and that would completely surprise them. So my point is its not one play, but a sequence of plays and as soon as opposing coaches figure it out, you then go to something else. Im certainly not the sharpest tool in the shed, but when things work, keep doing it. -
Its OK for the Bills to be a run-first team
GunnerBill replied to First Round Bust's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is alright, and it is who they have to be at the moment. But it is not alright that we have got here partly by accident. I think the staff always wanted balance. They did not want this inability to throw the ball down the field. That is not by design. It is a result of piss poor personnel decisions. The coaches are leaning into how the team has been built. But there are major questions marks about that build - both in strategy (which Beane and McDermott both have a hand in) and in talent evaluation (which is squarely on Brandon Beane). -
I mean it is a bit of both. There is definitely a cultural resistance on this board to blaming Allen even for things that are his fault. And there have been things that have been Josh's fault this year. Some of the turnovers are absolutely on him. He hasn't played as well as 2024 or the second half of 2023. There are extenuating factors but it is madness to exempt him from all blame. However, the WRs are the worst in the league. They were before the season started and some of us said it. The Bills have been hurt by injuries. Beane is to blame for some of the problems with this roster and while I am not a McDermott hater, the can't win the big game tag will stick likely until / unless he wins a Superbowl.

Game week thread - Bengals at Bills (flexed to 1pm ET)
Psautcsk replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Probably for a few weeks like Kincaid. Going to have to blitz Burrow and Maye to get pressure which is not ideal. Morgan Fox coming to the active roster. Good pickup by Beane, Bengals defense has looked much better lately. -
Roger Federer's career Grand Slam required someone else to take out Rafa Nadal at the French Open. Liverpool's 2019 Champions League required someone else to deal with Real Madrid. There are examples littered throughout sport of a nearly team needing someone else to deal with their big bad foe to get them over the line the first time. I don't think this Bills team can win a Superbowl as it happens.... too many injuries, too flawed in critical areas. But if they did and someone else knocks of KC literally nobody will care. History certainly won't. Hmm, I have 10-7 with wins v CLE and NYJ as dicey. You need the other contenders to all canabalise one another.... which could happen, but isn't a guarantee.
-
10-7 will also very likely be fine if one of those losses is the Eagles As far as i can tell even just beating Browns / Jets puts us near enough in
-
It's almost impossible for them to miss at 11-6. As I say 10-7 is dicey.
-
The only reason The Bills lost to the Pats is because the Pats scored more points. No excuse for losing a primetime home game with Diggs on the other side and letting him beat you.

Nail in the coffin for what? Win 3 games out of their last 5 and the Bills are in. The Colts aren't getting to 11 wins and if Houston beats KC then the max the Chiefs can win is 10. I think whichever team loses the Houston - Kansas City game there is good news for the Bills. Now if the Bills were to only go 2-3 down the stretch and end up at 10-7 that is when they are in a bun fight. But even then we need the Chiefs to be 10-7 too for the tiebreaker to matter, so them losing to Houston still helps. I do think 10-7 with 2 more AFC losses would be a problem for the Bills though. Having played with a few scenarios I struggle to get them in with only 10 wins.... it is possible, but it is not super likely. Both 2021 and 2024 were at KC. 2023 was the home game when our D was decimated with injuries. We still had the chance to win that at the end and couldn't get it done.

2025 Bills are similar to which Superbowl champion?
dcinmuncie replied to Kelly to Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall
You’re insane and wish you were correct, but your optimism is rather refreshing! -
Madness to want KC in There is 4 years of evidence that this ain't good news for us And two of those years we were better than them (2024) or played as well as we possibly can (2021) - and still lost. One of them at home Rather play the Texans all day long, tough to beat the same team twice in the same season (see Bills regular season vs Chiefs) I think we roll vs Texans in a play off scenario - home or on the road

Shhhh…you’re spoiling his narrative. Repeat after me: in no particular order. Our WRs are horrid, the worst in the NFL by a large margin. Brady is unimaginative, McDermott can’t win a big game. Injuries are no excuse, must be Beanes fault. Oh, and Allen’s play has nothing to do with anything — he’s a generational talent, so every problem we face this year lies outside his purview.

8th In "D" - 2nd in "O"!?!?!
Kelly to Allen replied to MarlinTheMagician's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's even better if you take out week 1... I know that's cherry picking but still. Gotta keep it going vs Cincinnati. -
Agree with this. I would say Atlanta though. That defensive display in the first half was not NFL level football. It was not even SEC level football. We of course now know that McDermott took over playcalling from Babich at half time and 2nd half they were better.... but that game got away from us because the defensive effort first half was risible. The biggest issue on this team is lack of downfield playmakers and hence lack of downfield passing game. That in itself makes run defense worse because it forces us into playing a lot of these tight margin football games. And it was entitely predictable. Indeed many of us said before the year that it was the fatal flaw on the roster. I still argue it is the biggest reason we have lost to KC the last two post seasons.

Its OK for the Bills to be a run-first team
nucci replied to First Round Bust's topic in The Stadium Wall
The run game is great but we have the best QB in the league and no passing game. -
They're going to play run first and probably man in coverage. Their top 3 CBs are better than our top 3 WRs: Carlton Davis, Christian Gonzalez, and Marcus Jones are very solid. They're missing their best DT in Milton Williams though, so their pass rush will be less than it was in the first meeting, but their run defense is still strong. Also missing for them is their LT, so maybe some opportunity there along with Stevenson's fumbling. It's going to come down to turnovers again, whoever wins that battle will win the game. I don't foresee a high scoring game, probably low 20's wins it. Allen will have to do Allen things in this one.... running game shut down, receivers covered and slow D lineman chasing him, sounds like good conditions for big plays. We're favored to win, but I'd say it's a 50/50 proposition. What's also at stake; if we win they remain unproven, but if they win they're legit and there's no arguing it.

Jack, Jim and Josh - we've enjoyed some real royalty at the QB position over the decades.

Tyrell Shavers and blocking as a WR

Hawes reminds me of Kyle Brady from the 90s. Great pick -

This will be true every week until the end of the season. As a certain QB likes to say, we need to go 1-0 every week. -
