Niagara Falls and the Buffalo Bills

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering something...If for some reason the bills decide to leave Buffalo on account of the horrible economy and could somehow land in Niagara Falls..could there be any possible way that they keep the name and remain the BUFFALO BILLS? the citys are vertually next to eachother anyway.. and for me I would still be a fan if they moved there and kept the name anyways

Why would the Bills leave Buffalo for Niagara Falls where the economy is the same?

Now if they went to Toronto I can see them go by the "Toronto Buffalo Bills". I suppose "Buffalo Bills of Toronto" is possible too.

If they stay in western New York, I'll remain a fan.

If they leave... I will never root for them again.

Even though the economies are the same it could lead the canadian fan base to be more interested in the team because of where theyre playing..idk it could work tho

In my opinion a move to Niagara falls would not necessarily change our name which is something that is very important to me. I'm all for a new Stadium near the falls, but don't you dare take Buffalo out of the Buffalo Bills because if that's the case you can just forget that idea

Before my post gets lost...

Niagara Falls, NY would be a great location for the team...

Casinos...Tourist attractions...Great Hotels...it would be an attractive place for visitors to come...could even spawn a Super Bowl nod, if a dome stadium is in place...

Overall, they would not change their name...it would still be the Buffalo Bills

Absolutely, if Jim Kelly's "group" gets the Bills from Wilson or after he dies. Kelly has been quoted (in fact I think he was the first one to come up with the idea before the stupid "Niagara Bills" concept was puked up), that he thinks a new stadium should be built in Niagara Falls. Later, during all the hoopla about appeasing the Canadians by naming the team "Niagara" was being tossed around, Jimbo came out and said no way....if his group owned the Bills, they would always be named the Buffalo Bills.

That said, if Kelly's "group" disbands or doesn't win the bid from the Wilson family, I firmly believe the Bills will be long gone to another city altogether. (Los Angeles, San Antonio or even Las Vegas, for example.)

Not to get off subject, but I ran into a non-football fan from Toronto the other day and asked her opinion about the Bills moving to Toronto. She wasn't even aware thta this possibility existed and said the Argos are Toronto's football team. My theory is that at least 50% of Toronto doesn't care one way or another (maybe higher)

The Bills belong in Western NY and even though I haven't lived there for 25 years, I continue to root for the team and subscribe to DirecTV just top get their games. Here in rabid Giants/Patriots territory, it gets very annoying at how we continue to lose to these teams. I went to the boring Bills/Patriots game last year and was amazed at how many Bills fans there were at the sky high prices in Patriotland. Someone even came up to me and told me how nice it was to have a Bills fan on hand.

I am not sure how I would feel if they moved to Toronto, but with player movement these days, it is really hard to root for a team (think how you would have felt seeing Jim Kelly as a Baltimore Raven. Your thoughts?

If the Bills stay in Orchard Park, should the Bills change their name to The Orchard Park Bills?

No, they would have to change their name, just like they did when they moved to Orchard Park.

(That's why the Giants and Jets are now called the New Jersey Giants and New Jersey Jets.)

yeah, they cant even keep a NY Penn League baseball team in Niagara Falls. No thanks. People took some off the cuff remarks by blabbermouth Jim Kelly too seriously.

Outside of traffic and parking, does it really matter where the stadium is when we are taliking of a 20 mile or so radius? And traffic would be a serious detractor for any location in NF.

I drive from Philadelphia for games, and on Monday I see people's vehicles decked out in Bills stuff returning from the game all the way past Syracuse.

If its the NHL or MLB, you would need the stadium/arena near a place that is more convenient to get to. You have a lot more games, and games on weeknights. In the NFL, convenience of location isnt nearly as important. 8 games a year, driving an extra 10 minutes isnt going to make a difference. I also fail to see how the Rainbow Bridge is closer to Canada than the Peace Bridge.

If we are fortunate enough to get to that point, I would bet the stadium would be built in downtown Buffalo or Orchard Park.

Are they the Orchard Park Bills, now? In the very very unlikely event the stadium moved to the Falls, or somewhere in Niagara County, I imagine there would be no name change.

The economy is the same? look at all the tourist money that is spent on the Canadian side the US side see's barely a trickle. The area itself looks like the shared area between El Paso Texas and Juarez Mexico-with us being the Juarez side. I think having a stadum in the Niagara area is a no brainer-it would be the only stadium of any size in that region gathering US, Canadian and Tourist $$$. Bottom line we have one of the Seven Natural Wonders and have done squat with it. Imagine the publicity you would get from the blimp shot of the stadium with Niagara Falls in the background, tourists would come to the ara and see a game, use the stadium as a concert venue, see the fingerlake wine region, spend some $$$ in the local community and we do nothing on the US side but complain about the economy of Western NY (and it is bad). Being from NY I understand the lack of political pull, because of all money the being sucked out of the region and funneled to NYC-Take action, complain to those local politicians, there hasnt been a good political leader in that area in ages. I pull for Western NY and see the Niagara/Buffalo/Western NY Bills surviving if the stadium is moved and I see it as an opportunity for some economic prosperity that has been sorely lacking in the area. Finally there is not any big fancy hotels or buildings to demolish inthe area because the US side (NYC politicians and there lack of foresight) hasnt done anything for that area outside of the Maid of the Mist. Support the local businesses and region at least Genesee Brewery supports some local jobs-I'm not sure how many Western NY'ers work for Miller Light or Labbats.

Bills fans are some of the best in the world and whats impacting the Bills is the economy of Western NY that has dwindled every year for the last decade. I see the Niagara-Buffalo Bills option as the way to keep the team in the area and also assist the economy which is the main issue in the first place. You cant tell me that the Blimp shot with the Falls in the background wouldnt make that the best stadium in the country and increase tourism and give Western NY a chance to promote itself. The sleazy politicians certainly have not supported this community. There should be two tax bases one for NYC and one for the rest of the state
