I agree the talk is stupid.

Is Schobel the new twobillsdrive whipping boy now or something?

The sacks will come. Schobel has done plenty this year and has come really close to some sacks and strips.

But then again some people will tell you that Ellis needs to start.

Well a third of the season is done. I would settle for some pressures...or at least a bit of pushback...or perhaps just being in the same zip code as the quarterback.

That's his job, he's paid to be a cynic.

If he was paid to be an @sshole he'd be doing a better job at his job. Jerky Sullivan likes to pick a player and just spend time ripping on the player until the player is gone and then cheers himself. Sort of like some of the unpaid members of the board.

7.5 sacks in 21 games, 1 sack in 5 games this year. The numbers speak for themselves.

Just to get a perspective on all of this, what is the NFL leader in Sacks this year have so far? And whats the Average for a starting DE this year so far?

Then, whats the number of Sacks by players on the Bills this year so far?

Seems like everyone is looking for a whipping boy! We should be looking for a unit not a player. The offense is the problem. The 100 million dollar O line is underachieving, performing, etc....The special teams used to be special now they are very good. The defense used to suck now they are "middle of the road pretty good" and the offense was one of the worst in the league and it appears to me that the o line is working its way to the past. To be a playoff team the o line has to dominate the line of scrimmage most of the time. Many people blame the defense for not getting the ball back or stopping the Cardinals. Well, the score is close and after the bills field goal in the 3rd quarter, the offense musters 68 yards on 20 plays consuming a whopping 7:30 minutes the remainder of the game! The dee was flat out worn out! Forget Schobel and JP - the problem is truly offensive!

Any talk of Ellis starting is ridiculous, but you do have to wonder why a guy who came out of college touted as a pass rushing specialist hasn't got to the point where he is ACTIVE for a game instead of Copeland friggin' Bryan on a team that continues to have pass rushing problems. 0:)

well just think about it. whats that tell us all about ellis. it tells me he is not ready to contribute yet. personally i feel that he needs to get in the weight room and get bigger stronger and faster.

our coaches are not stupid if ellis was better than bryant then he would be playing more than him.

Jerry Sullivan seems to be a very negative person. No one is asking him to be a cheerleader, but after reading most of his columns, you want to go shoot yourself, his writing is so very bitter. Seems he has a great deal of difficulty finding positives in situations. .. A lifetime in doing-nothing/going-nowhere WNY will do that to you, I guess...

wgr = 0:)

lol

very few d lines can get pressure wihtout a blitz. 4 men is usually not enough to get significant pressure. i fault the defensive coaches and the head coach for last week's showing

Sullivan cant do his job without offending everyone he comes in contact with or writes about. I could keep a running tab of the ridiculous, contradictory statements he has made over the years. He will say anything.

Not only would sullivan debase himself for a skittle, but he also lacks football knowledge. I would be surprised if he has ever played a down. He cheats at golf.

Schobel is having a good year. The lack of sacks so far comes from a number of real football factors. He is not being used as an outside pass rusher as much as in the past. He is lining up in a more inside technique and standing his ground to stop the run. Often he pulls a tackle wide and deep into the quarterback and opens up the rush from the inside. We have not brought a lot of pressure to support him out there.

Aaron has lost weight since coming to buffalo. You'll notice that he gets more tackles and disrupts plays more like a linebacker.

And although he has a southern drawl and is a little short in interviews, he is not dumb. He scored a 37 on his wonderlic test, making him one of the smartest players in the NFL. He really is very shy and is a very private person.

Fans with poor knowledge of the game only look at Sacks when it comes to DE's.

It has nothing to do with knowledge of the game. If you don't get sacks, you don't make $7 mill per year, regardless of pressures (2nd on the team, are we supposed to be impressed with that, for $7 mill?), tackles, etc. Guys who do well in all other phases of the game but don't get a lot of sacks usually get from $2 - $4 mill a year at DE. Schobel is being paid to pressure the QB and get sacks. He's not having a good year this year, though he is doing OK.

I like the guy, I like him as a player, but he should realize that he really is not having a great year yet this year.

i can't believe this thread made it to 4 pages. schobel is the same average to slightly-better-than-average d.e. he's always been. he is a perfect fit on our mediocre, no-pass-rush defense.

by the way, after watching the youtube video above, i find it sort of funny that when i type "schobel" and right-click it, the first word that shows up under my spell-check is "schooled." ouch.
