With all this extra stressin

The question I wonder is after death, after my last breath

When will I finaly get to rest? Through this supression

they punish the people that's askin questions

And those that possess, steal from the ones without possesions

The message I stress: to make it stop study your lessons

Don't settle for less - even the genius asks- questions

Be grateful for blessings

Don't ever change, keep your essence

The power is in the people and politics we address

Always do your best, don't let the pressure make you panic

And when you get stranded

And things don't go the way you planned it

Dreamin of riches, in a position of makin a difference

Politicians and hypocrites, they don't wanna listen

If I'm insane, it's the fame made a brother change

It wasn't nothin like the game

It's just me against the world

Jackson Browne --- Fountain of Sorrow.

Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer, I was taken by a photograph of you.

There were one or two I know you would have liked a little more, but they didn't show your spirit quite as true.

You were turning 'round to see who was behind you and I took your childish laughter by surprise,

and at the moment that my camera happened to find you, there was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes.

Throw down the lyrics that are meaningful 2 u .

Awesome. The next few lines of that song are even better:

The sorrow in your eyes showed up on your eyelash

a week or two later you went off to film Splash

I warned you not to do it but still I took the rap

when you got back from filming out of you I beat the crap

Mama told me when I was young

Come sit beside me, my only son

And listen closely to what I say.

And if you do this

It will help you some sunny day.

Take your time... don’t live too fast,

Troubles will come and they will pass.

Go find a woman and you’ll find love,

And don’t forget son,

There is someone up above.

(chorus)

And be a simple kind of man.

Be something you love and understand.

Be a simple kind of man.

Won’t you do this for me son,

If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man’s gold

All that you need is in your soul,

And you can do this if you try.

All that I want for you my son,

Is to be satisfied.

(chorus)

Boy, don’t you worry... you’ll find yourself.

Follow you heart and nothing else.

And you can do this if you try.

All I want for you my son,

Is to be satisfied.

(chorus)

A little girl came up to me

Actin' young and shy

A little curiosity was flashing in her eyes

She had seen my face before

And thought she knew me well

So I said "Shall we talk some more...

Well come to my hotel"

She was only 17, 17

But she was sexy

She was only 17, 17

She said she loved me

17 years old

17 years old

How we talked all through all the night

And never even touched

Even talked of love and life

I wanted her that much

She said she read a magazine

That said I was a freak

You'll never know now little girl

Until you take a peak

She was only 17, 17

And she was sexy

She was only 17, 17

But she was young

And fine

And oh so tender

Could I break down to find

And surrender

This young girl

This sweet thing

I just cant wait

No I musnt do this

She's almost jail bait

17 years old

17 years old

"The days grow shorter and the nights are getting long

Feels like we're running out of time

Every day it seems much harder tellin' right from wrong

You got to read between the lines

Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can

Make it through another day

Make it worth the price we pay

The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive

I do my best to do my part

Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve

I keep my magic in my heart

Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby

I am counting on you

You know what you've got to do

CHORUS:

Fight the good fight every moment

Every minute every day

Fight the good fight every moment

It's your only way

All your life you've been waiting for your chance

Where you'll fit into the plan

But you're the master of your own destiny

So give and take the best that you can

You think a little more money will buy your soul some rest

You'd better think of something else instead

You're so afraid of being honest with yourself

You'd better take a look inside your head

Nothing is easy, nothing good is free

But I can tell you where to start

Take a look inside your heart

There's an answer in your heart

CHORUS (THIS IS THE CORRECTION)

Fight the good fight every moment

Every minute every day

Fight the good fight every moment

Make it worth the price we pay

Every moment of your lifetime

Every minute every day

Fight the good fight everybody

Make it worth the price we pay

Yeah"

Doctor Doctor, what is wrong with me

This supermarket life is getting long

What is the half life of a colour TV

What is the shelf life of a teenage queen

Ooh western woman

Ooh western girl

News hound sniffs the air

When Jessica Hahn goes down

He latches on to that symbol of detachment

Attracted by the peeling away of feeling

The celebrity of the abused shell, the belle

Ooh western woman

Ooh western girl

Ooh western woman

Ooh western girl

And the children on Melrose

Strut their stuff

Is absolute zero cold enough

And out in the valley, warm and clean

The little ones sit by their TV screens

No thoughts to think

No tears to cry

All sucked dry

Down to the very last breath

Bartender what is wrong with me?

Why am I so out of breath?

The captain said excuse me ma'am

This species has amused itself to death

Amused itself to death

It has amused itself to death

Amused itself to death

We watched the tragedy unfold

We did as we were told

We bought and sold

It was the greatest show on earth

But then it was over

We ohhed and aahed

We drove our racing cars

We ate our last few jars of caviar

And somewhere out there in the stars

A keen-eyed look-out

Spied a flickering light

Our last hurrah

Our last hurrah

And when they found our shadows

Grouped 'round the TV sets

They ran down every lead

They repeated every test

They checked out all the data on their lists

And then, the alien anthropologists

Admitted they were still perplexed

But on eliminating every other reason

For our sad demise

They logged the only explanation left

This species has amused itself to death

Amused to Death

"Then I got Mary pregnant,

And man that was all she wrote,

For my 19th birthday,

I got a union card and a wedding coat,

We went down to the courthouse,

And the judge put it all to rest,

No wedding day smiles, no walk down the aisles,

no flowers, no wedding dress" - Bruce Springsteen "The River"

Great one too...

The Boss knows how to write those stories...

what about :

HIGHWAY PATROLMAN

My name is Joe Roberts I work for the state

I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville barracks number 8

I always done an honest job as honest as I could

I got a brother named Franky and Franky ain't no good

Now ever since we was young kids it's been the same come down

I get a call over the radio Franky's in trouble downtown

Well if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away

But when it's your brother sometimes you look the other way

Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood

Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"

I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would

Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good

Well Franky went in the army back in 1965 I got a farm deferment, settled down, took Maria for my wife

But them wheat prices kept on droppin' till it was like we were gettin' robbed

Franky came home in `68, and me, I took this job

Yea we're laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood

Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"

I catch him when he's strayin', teach him how to walk that line

Man turns his back on his family he ain't no friend of mine

Well the night was like any other, I got a call `bout quarter to nine

There was trouble in a roadhouse out on the Michigan line

There was a kid lyin' on the floor lookin' bad bleedin' hard from his head there was a girl cryin' at a table and it was Frank, they said

Well I went out and I jumped in my car and I hit the lights

Well I must of done one hundred and ten through Michigan county that night

It was out at the crossroads, down round Willow bank

Seen a Buick with Ohio plates behind the wheel was Frank

Well I chased him through them county roads till a sign said Canadian border five miles from here

I pulled over the side of the highway and watched his taillights disappear

Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin'

Nothin' feels better than blood on blood

Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"

I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would

Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good

My name is Joe Robert I work for the state

I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville. barraks Number 8

I've always done an honest job

OR:

Cautious man

Bill Horton was a cautious man of the road

He walked lookin' over his shoulder and remained faithful to its code

When something caught his eye he'd measure his need

And then very carefully he'd proceed

Billy met a young girl in the early days of May

It was there in her arms he let his cautiousness slip away

In their lovers twilight as the evening sky grew dim

He'd lay back in her arms and laugh at what had happened to him

On his right hand Billy tattooed the word love and on his left hand was the word fear

And in which hand he held his fate was never clear

Come Indian summer he took his young lover for his bride

And with his own hands built a great house down by the riverside

Now Billy was an honest man he wanted to do what was right

He worked hard to fill their lives with happy days and loving nights

Alone on his knees in the darkness for steadiness he'd pray

For he knew in a restless heart the seed of betrayal lay

One night Billy awoke from a terrible dream callin' his wife's name

She lay breathing beside him in a peaceful sleep, a thousand miles away

He got dressed in the moonlight and down to the highway he strode

When he got there he didn't find nothing but road

Billy felt a coldness rise up inside him that he couldn't name

Just as the words tattooed 'cross his knuckles he knew would always remain

At their bedside he brushed the hair from his wife's face as the moon shone on her skin so white

Filling their room with the beauty of God's fallen light

some of my favorite lyrics are. Stevie Ray Vaughn's, Life by the Drop. Pink Floyd's, Welcome to the Machine and Wish you were here.

Life by the Drop by: Stevie Ray Vaughn

Hello there my old friend.

Not so long ago it was till the end.

We played outside in the pouring rain,

on our way up the road we started over again.

You're living a dream, oh you on top.

My mind is achin lord it won't stop.

Thats how it happens living life by the drop.

Up and down that road in our worn out shoes.

Talkin about good times and signing the blues.

You went your way and I stayed behind.

We both Knew it was just a matter of time.

You're livin a dream, oh you on top.

My mind still achin lord it won't stop.

Thats how it happens living life by the drop.

No wasted time, we're alive today.

churnin up the past, there's no easier way.

Times been between us a means to an end.

God it's good to be here walking together my friend

You're living a dream....

My mind stopped achin....

Thats how it happens living life by the drop.

Thats how it happens living life by the drop.

Great call on SRV! Ther's no denying one of the greatest guitar playing blues musicians ever. In his honor I submit Tin Pan Alley.

Went down to Tin Pan Alley, see what was going on

Things was too hot down there, couldn't stay very long

Hey hey hey hey, alley's the roughest place I've ever been

All the people down there, livin' for their whisky, wine, and gin

I heard a woman scream, yeah, and I peeked through the door

Some cat was workin' on Annie with a, Lord with a two-by-four

Hey hey hey hey, alley's the roughest place I've ever been

All the people down there, livin' for their whisky, wine, and gin

I heard a pistol shoot, yeah, and it was a .44

Somebody killed a crap shooter cause he didn't, shake, rattle, and roll

Hey hey hey hey, alley's the roughest place I've ever been

All the people down there, killin' for their whisky, wine, and gin

I saw a cop standin', with his hand on his gun

Said "This is a raid boys, nobody run"

Hey, Hey, Hey, alley's the roughest place I've ever been

Yeah they took me away from tin pan alley

And took me right back, to the pen

That's what I'm talkin' about baby!

Here comes the sun,

Here comes the sun,

And I say "It's all right"

Little darling, it's been a long, cold lonely winter.

Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here.

Here comes the sun,

Here comes the sun,

And I say "It's all right"

Little darling, the smile returning to their faces.

Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here.

Here comes the sun,

Here comes the sun,

And I say "It's all right"

Sun, sun, sun here it comes.

Sun, sun, sun here it comes.

Sun, sun, sun here it comes.

Sun, sun, sun here it comes.

Sun, sun, sun here it comes.

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting.

Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear.

Here comes the sun,

Here comes the sun,

And I say "It's all right,

It's all right,

It's all right

Dug our treasures there,

But can you still recall

The time we cried?

The Doors - Break on Through (to the other side)

No one knows what its like

To be the bad man

To be the sad man

Behind blue eyes

No one knows what its like

To be hated

To be fated

To telling only lies

But my dreams

They arent as empty

As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely

My love is vengeance

Thats never free

No one knows what its like

To feel these feelings

Like I do

And I blame you

No one bites back as hard

On their anger

None of my pain and woe

Can show through

But my dreams

They arent as empty

As my conscience seems to be

I have hours, only lonely

My love is vengeance

Thats never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open

Before I use it and lose my cool

When I smile, tell me some bad news

Before I laugh and act like a fool

If I swallow anything evil

Put your finger down my throat

If I shiver, please give me a blanket

Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what its like

To be the bad man

To be the sad man

Behind blue eyes

The Who - Behind Blue Eyes

We'll be fighting in the streets

With our children at our feet

And the morals that they worship will be gone

And the men who spurred us on

Sit in judgement of all wrong

They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution

Take a bow for the new revolution

Smile and grin at the change all around

Pick up my guitar and play

Just like yesterday

Then I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come

We knew it all along

We were liberated from the fold, that's all

And the world looks just the same

And history ain't changed

'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution

Take a bow for the new revolution

Smile and grin at the change all around

Pick up my guitar and play

Just like yesterday

Then I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again

No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside

If we happen to be left half alive

I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky

Though I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

Yeah!

There's nothing in the streets

Looks any different to me

And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye

And the parting on the left

Are now parting on the right

And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution

Take a bow for the new revolution

Smile and grin at the change all around

Pick up my guitar and play

Just like yesterday

Then I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again

Don't get fooled again

No, no!

When it came to Springsteen diddys, I was always partial to his The River work and:

Point Blank

Point Blank

Do you still say your prayers little darlin'

do you go to bed at night

Prayin' that tomorrow, everything will be alright

But tommorow's fall in number

in number one by one

You wake up and you're dying

you don't even know what from

Well they shot you point blank

you been shot in the back

Baby point blank you been fooled this time

little girl that's a fact

Right between the eyes, baby, point blank

right between the pretty lies that they tell

Little girl you fell

You grew up where young girls they grow up fast

You took what you were handed and left behind what was asked

but what they asked baby wasn't right

you didn't have to live that life,

I was gonna be your Romeo you were gonna be my Juliet

These days you don't wait on Romeo's

you wait on that welfare check

and on all the pretty things that you can't ever have

and on all the promises

That always end up point blank, shot between the eyes

Point blank like little white lies you tell to ease the pain

You're walkin' in the sights, girl of point blank

and it's one false move and baby the lights go out

Once I dreamed we were together again

baby you and me

Back home in those old clubs the way we used to be

We were standin' at the bar

it was hard to hear

The band was playin' loud and you were shoutin' somethin' in my ear

You pulled my jacket off and as the drummer counted four

You grabbed my hand and pulled me out on the floor

You just stood there and held me, then you started dancin' slow

And as I pulled you tighter I swore I'd never let you go

Well I saw you last night down on the avenue

Your face was in the shadows but I knew that it was you

You were standin' in the doorway out of the rain

You didn't answer when I called out your name

You just turned, and then you looked away

like just another stranger waitin' to get blown away

Point blank, right between the eyes

Point blank, right between the pretty lies you fell

Point blank, shot right through the heart

Yea point blank, you've been twisted up till you've become just another part of it

Point blank, you're walkin' in the sights

Point blank, livin' one false move just one false move away

Point blank, they caught you in their sights

Point blank, did you forget how to love,

girl, did you forget how to fight.

Point blank they must have shot you in the head

Cause point blank

bang bang baby you're dead.

It was raining hard in 'Frisco,

I needed one more fare to make my night.

A lady up ahead waved to flag me down,

She got in at the light.

Oh, where you going to, my lady blue,

It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain.

She just looked out the window, and said

"Sixteen Parkside Lane".

Something about her was familiar

I could swear I'd seen her face before,

But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken"

And she didn't say anything more.

It took a while, but she looked in the mirror,

And she glanced at the license for my name.

A smile seemed to come to her slowly,

It was a sad smile, just the same.

And she said, "How are you Harry?"

I said, "How are you Sue?

Through the too many miles

and the too little smiles

I still remember you."

It was somewhere in a fairy tale,

I used to take her home in my car.

We learned about love in the back of the Dodge,

The lesson hadn't gone too far.

You see, she was gonna be an actress,

And I was gonna learn to fly.

She took off to find the footlights,

And I took off to find the sky.

Oh, I've got something inside me,

To drive a princess blind.

There's a wild man, wizard,

He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind.

Oh, I've got something inside me,

Not what my life's about,

Cause I've been letting my outside tide me,

Over 'till my time, runs out.

Baby's so high that she's skying,

Yes she's flying, afraid to fall.

I'll tell you why baby's crying,

Cause she's dying, aren't we all.

There was not much more for us to talk about,

Whatever we had once was gone.

So I turned my cab into the driveway,

Past the gate and the fine trimmed lawns.

And she said we must get together,

But I knew it'd never be arranged.

And she handed me twenty dollars,

For a two fifty fare, she said

"Harry, keep the change."

Well another man might have been angry,

And another man might have been hurt,

But another man never would have let her go...

I stashed the bill in my shirt.

And she walked away in silence,

It's strange, how you never know,

But we'd both gotten what we'd asked for,

Such a long, long time ago.

You see, she was gonna be an actress

And I was gonna learn to fly.

She took off to find the footlights,

And I took off for the sky.

And here, she's acting happy,

Inside her handsome home.

And me, I'm flying in my taxi,

Taking tips, and getting stoned,

I go flying so high, when I'm stoned.

Harry Chapin Taxi

Well Ive been out walking

I dont do that much talking these days

These days--

These days I seem to think a lot

About the things that I forgot to do

For you

And all the times I had the chance to

And I had a lover

Its so hard to risk another these days

These days--

Now if I seem to be afraid

To live the life I have made in song

Well its just that Ive been losing so long

Ill keep on moving

Things are bound to be improving these days

These days--

These days I sit on corner stones

And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend

Dont confront me with my failures

I had not forgotten them

Jackson Browne These Days

When all the dark clouds roll away

And the sun begins to shine

I see my freedom from across the way

And it comes right in on time

Well it shines so bright and it gives so much light

And it comes from the sky above

Makes me feel so free makes me feel like me

And lights my life with love

Chorus:

And it seems like and it feels like

And it seems like yes it feels like

A brand new day, yeah

A brand new day oh

I was lost and double crossed

With my hands behind my back

I was longtime hurt and thrown in the dirt

Shoved out on the railroad track

I've been used, abused and so confused

And I had nowhere to run

But I stood and looked

And my eyes got hooked

On that beautiful morning sun

Chorus

And the sun shines down all on the ground

Yeah and the grass is oh so green

And my heart is still and I've got the will

And I don't really feel so mean

Here it comes, here it comes

0 here it comes right now

And it comes right in on time

Well it eases me and it pleases me

And it satisfies my mind

My soul is troubled, I'm afraid of the darkness;

Afraid of myself

and sometimes, I don't know where I'm going,

but when I die

I know I will find.....my way in the light!

Its our salvation...

PAIN.....is just a memory.

In the light, you will find the truth,

All the answers....for those who want to know!! I WANNA KNOW!

One of my all-time favorites. Reminds me of growing up in Buffalo in the late 70's while Bethlehem Steel was closing.

Bob Seger's "Main Street" is another favorite of mine:

"And sometimes even now, when I'm feeling lonely and beat

I drift back in time and I find my feet

Down on Mainstreet

Down on Mainstreet"

Here's another current favorite from Montgomery Gentry:

"Got Some Friends Who Would Be Here Fast

I Could Call Em Any Time Of Day

Got A Brother Who's Got My Back

Got A Mama Who I Swears A Saint

Got A Brand New Rod And Reel

Got A Full Week Off This Year

A Few Dollars In A Coffee Can

My Old Trucks Still Running Good

My Ticker's Tickin' Like They Say It Should

I Got Supper In The Oven, A Good Woman's Loving

And One More Day To Be My Little Kid's Dad

Lord, Knows I'm A Lucky Man

My Old Trucks Still Running Good

My Ticker's Ticking Like They Say It Should

I Got Supper In The Oven, A Good Woman's Loving

And Even My Bad Days Ain't That Bad

Yeah, I'm A Lucky Man"

And one more...

"I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends

A chance to share old memories and play our songs again

When I got to the garden party they all knew my name

But no one recognized me I didn't look the same

But it's all right now

I learned my lesson well

You see you can't please ev'ryone so

You got to please yourself"

Dad Had A Close Call Last Spring

It's A Miracle He's Still Here

But I Know I'm A Lucky Man

God's Given Me A Pretty Fair Hand

Got A House And A Piece Of Land

A Few Dollars In A Coffee Can

My Old Trucks Still Running Good

My Ticker's Tickin' Like They Say It Should

I Got Supper In The Oven, A Good Woman's Loving

I heard Lucky Man a lot when it fist came out. I like that song because it reminds me of the things that are important in life. I have a tendency to be pessimistic and when I hear that song, I realize how good I have it.

Here's a couple more that I like:

The words had all been spoken

And somehow the feeling still wasnt right

And still we continued on through the night

Tracing our steps from the beginning

Until they vanished into the air

Trying to understand how our lives has led us there

Looking hard into your eyes

There was nobody Id ever known

Such an empty surprise to feel so alone

Now for me some words come easy

But I know that they dont mean that much

Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch

You never knew what I loved in you

I dont know what you loved in me

Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

Awake again I cant pretend and I know Im alone

And close to the end of the feeling weve known

How long have I been sleeping

How long have I been drifting alone through the night

How long have I been dreaming I could make it right

If I closed my eyes and tried with all my might

To be the one you need

Awake again I cant pretend and I know Im alone

And close to the end of the feeling weve known

How long have I been sleeping

How long have I been drifting alone through the night

How long have I been running for that morning flight

Through the whispered promises and the changing light

Of the bed where we both lie

Late for the sky

Jackson Browne Late For The Sky

It is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know

You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.

It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.

Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune.

Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from

time to time.

Talk Talk - I've felt the coldness of my winter

I never thought it would ever go. I cursed the gloom that set upon us...

But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall

This is the wonder of devotion - I seek the torch we all must hold.

This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall...It's just a little rain...

Reading these lyrics and thinking about their meaning, it makes me see what a powerful medium music is. Whether it was a cabin we owned as kids, rollin in our first car or a girlfriend we had as a teenager. Music can always return you to that point in time. In your mind you can see the scene, in your ears you can hear the sounds and the smells ... you could swear to God you could almost taste it. In the immortal words of Gene Simmons " Loud wanna hear it loud, right between the eyes." For those about to rock, we salute you !!!!

I've been on quite the Foo kick lately, seeing them live twice this year. Here is one of my favorites:

Learn to Fly

Run and tell all of the angels

This could take all night

Think I need a devil to help me get things right

Hook me up a new revolution

Cause this one is a lie

We sat around laughing and watched the last one die

I'm looking to the sky to save me

Looking for a sign of life

Looking for something to help me burn out bright

I'm looking for a complication

Looking cause I'm tired of lying (trying)

Make my way back home when I learn to fly

I think I'm done nursing the patience

It can wait one night

I'd give it all away if you give me one last try

We'll live happily ever trapped if you just save my life

Run and tell all the angels that everything is alright. . .

Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone

Try and make this life my own

Y'know, my python boot was too tight

I couldn't get it off last night

A week went by, an' now it's July

I finally got it off

An' my girl-friend cry

"You got STINK FOOT!

STINK FOOT, darlin'

Your STINK FOOT puts a hurt on my nose!

STINK FOOT! STINK FOOT! I ain't lyin',

Can you rinse it off, d'you suppose?"

One of the finest musicians to ever pick up a guitar - the legendary, late, great Frank Zappa...

Link - freakin' awesome live video

If you're local, or visiting the BuffTown this week, you'd be crazy to miss 'Zappa Plays Zappa' at Thursday At The Square...
