Available Free Agents.

Recommended Posts

(I changed the ORIGINAL POST).

I was checking out some of the UNrestricted Free Agents that are still available, and came up with quite a few that could help us out.

Let me know what you think...(My top-12, and top-6 in bold)

LB - Kendrell Bell (6-1, 245) - Would be a VERY solid backup LB.

http://www.nfl.com/players/kendrellbell/profile?id=BEL415267

OG - Ruben Brown (6-3, 300) - Would make an excellent backup and mentor to our young OL.

http://www.nfl.com/players/rubenbrown/profile?id=BRO668610

OT - Anthony Clement (6-8, 320) - Fits the mold of the guys we have, HUGE and athletic. Great backup.

http://www.nfl.com/players/anthonyclement/...le?id=CLE167954

LB - Roosevelt Colvin (6-3, 250) - Starter quality, would be the best backup LB in the league. Has ties to Jauron.

http://www.nfl.com/players/roseveltcolvin/...le?id=COL815193

S - Deke Cooper (6-2, 210) - Could possibly unseat KO. Last year's stats showed his talent and potential.

http://www.nfl.com/players/dekecooper/profile?id=COO613941

OT - Nat Dorsey (6-7, 335) - See Anthony Clement.

http://www.nfl.com/players/natdorsey/profile?id=DOR730504

S - Mike Doss (5-10, 207) - See Deke Cooper, minus the stats from last year when he was injured.

http://www.nfl.com/players/mikedoss/profile?id=DOS264111

S - Kenoy Kennedy (6-1, 215) - Like Deke Cooper, he had good stats last year. Very tough, could unseat KO.

http://www.nfl.com/players/kenoykennedy/profile?id=KEN442973

OT - Stockar McDougle (6-6, 348) - See Anthony Clement and Nat Dorsey.

http://www.nfl.com/players/stockarmcdougle...le?id=MCD756462

OG - Shane Olivea (6-4, 312) - Starter for the Chargers, could step in and play RG OR C for us.

http://www.nfl.com/players/shaneolivea/profile?id=OLI195248

OT - Oliver Ross (6-4, 327) - See Anthony Clement, Nat Dorsey and Stockar McDougle.

http://www.nfl.com/players/oliverross/profile?id=ROS656940

LB - Takeo Spikes (6-2, 242) - Former heart and soul of our defense. Would love to have him back. Bet he would love to come back.

http://www.nfl.com/players/takeospikes/profile?id=SPI270805

If we need a backup Quarterback: Daunte Culpepper and Byron Leftwich are still available. (I would rather have Culpepper).

http://www.nfl.com/players/daunteculpepper...le?id=CUL586056

http://www.nfl.com/players/byronleftwich/p...le?id=LEF677964

Jerramy Stevens is still available as a Tight End. He has size and skill, also on the right side of 30...but character is a concern.

http://www.nfl.com/players/jerramystevens/...le?id=STE617245

Former Bills backup linemen, Mike Pucillo and Ross Tucker, are still available and both have improved since their playing days here.

http://www.nfl.com/players/mikepucillo/profile?id=PUC296636

http://www.nfl.com/players/rosstucker/profile?id=TUC282111

* There are many, many more Free Agents available that could help us out. But, most of the ones that I have listed here, are guys who have unrealized potential or have not reached their prime yet, and they are also young and hungry for more playing time/money.

A team can always be improved, and a lot of these guys have great talent that could really help out this Buffalo Bills team, on offense AND defense!

Out of the guys on these lists, who would you like the Bills to bring in for training camp, or at least a tryout???

---> If you wanna see the rest of the guys, the guys I did not put on this list...here is the link I used...

Thanks for the list and link,

After the draft I see our needs unit by unit as:

QB: After the past bruising QB controversies I think the media situation and the insecurity of some fans makes it useful for us to trade JP if we get a solid offer as Edwards will need a back-up QB with some previous pro success. Demographically JP is perfect for this role as he knows our O and they know him. Even better for those whose panties are all up in a wad over not wanting Edwards to face any pressure, JP is done for the most part as a reasonable candidate to start as he declared the Jax game make or break for him and he broke.

However, I do not think the maturity is there for us to have JP around with a lot of wails and whining so if we get a good deal for him then I would say adios and as we then need a vet back-up only then would I consider one of these FA QBs if we did not get on in trade for JP.

RB- Full house and no need for FAs here.

OL- We are assured of our starting 5. The only concern is that though the Bills showed good pass protection and Lynch picked up a bunch of yards, though Fowler has the athleticism to pull nicely he is not a dominant C and th memory of Kent Hull has spoiled us to want one.

There were no C candidates worth talking about in this draft (though almost certainly some surprise will emerge amd some will claim they said we should have taken him all along) and their appears to be no one in FA either. Lets hope that the Bills brain trust knows more than some observers about Fowler and also Preston's prospects.

Still, Chambers was statistically OK in his game in relief of Peters but there appeared to be a drop-off in offensive line control with Peters gone, Also it is reasonable to be hopeful about Butler at G, but Whittle as back-up is questionable due to age. An FA for depth is probably a good idea,

TE- Things are dubious enough with the talent here, us running an O which does not rely on the TE as a pass catcher and makes greater use of the H-Back seems more likely than some player will step up at TE.

WR- The lack of any FA WRs is probably the biggest disappointment from me with the list. We are thin if Hardy disappoints or goes down to injury.

DL- I like the rotation we have.

LB- The talent is likely here as Michell needs to not miss a step with his change of teams. Crowell needs to at least repeat his current level of OLB if not continue to improve his game as he is not that old. Pos needs to build upon his impressive start leading the team in tackles, but he did prove to be easily faked into taking a step backwards on runs or a false step forward on pass plays. The great news is that he had the speed and instincts to quickly realize his error and he still would make a tackle (though he often looked like a poor man's London Fletcher making the initial hit well in our backfield.

We have JD and Ellison as former starter who are back-ups on this team and this unit looks good,

DBs- the draft of McKelvin make CB a strong suit for us know and at S, it appears Simpson is back and Wilson looked like a first year S starter out there but he easily has enough quality to be a back-up.

The real deal for any of these FAs though is whether they can produce on ST.

It'd be nice to have a look at some of those backup O-Linemen. As for the rest, I can't see them contributing very much for us.

I would REALLY like us to sign (DE) Jerome McDougal. I think he would bring some speed and pass rush off the end in our rotation. He was a 1st Round pick out of Miami University, and with the right coaching, he would be a solid contributer.

Mike Doss would also be a nice backup. He is from Ohio State and is tough against the run. We need depth at Strong Safety.

If we could make a reasonable deal with Dallas, (DE) Chris Canty would be an excellent addition to our D-Line rotation, in the mold of Justin Tuck.

He got shot and that pretty much changed his career.

I think that signing FAs is a good idea for depth. I am excited about what this team will do, and I dont really want to bring in any new starters for continuity sake. At 7-9 last year with our O and D being bottom feeders in terms of stats, I think a healthy Bills team minus Fairchild and plus McKelvin and Hardy will be a solid unit. I'm excited to see this thing..

You obviously don't watch football. Jerome McDougal??? Wow. And Chris Canty in the mold of Justin Tuck? Have you ever seen a Dallas game? He's more of a Ryan Denney.

Actually... going to the NFL is what changed his career. He was a bust. Never saw the field.

agreed. philly did everything they could to hand him a starting DE spot, and he never could win it. the lone highlight of his career is the one play where he was blocked 20 yards downfield, then blindsided eli manning. (because who is expecting a guy to get blocked that far back?)

We're likely not going to keep more than 4 defensive ends, and I highly doubt they'd cut any of Kelsay, Denney, Schobel or Ellis for the likes of McDougal or Canty...

FYI, you can't sign restricted free agents after the draft.

Thank you for the info...I did not know that.

Shoot, I'd like to bring big Reuben back cheaply, he's a good guy. Doss would be a pretty decent backup at safety or he could shift Donte to FS and play SS for us.

I agree completely. I would really like to see Ruben come back and mentor our young linemen, and Doss would be a upgrade over our backups. I also like the idea of shifting Whitner to FS and Doss at SS, if they dont think Ko can work out at FS and Doss would be a better fit back there.

I totally forgot all about that...my bad.

I actually watch A LOT of football, but I dont really pay ANY attention to the Eagles or Cowboys. McDougal would be worth at least a look in training camp, but I didnt realize he is 30 years old. Chris Canty in the mold of Justin Tuck, I meant that he could play DE or DT because he has size and speed. I just like the idea of having a couple players on the team that can play and contribute at more than 1 position. With McDougle's speed, he could play OLB if he had to, he did at the "U" and he has lined up there a few times for the Eagles in the past, from what I have read and heard about him.

I changed the Original Post...took out some guys who are too old, and took out the Restricted FA's since we can't sign them now anyways. I also added a little info on each player I like.

Let me know your thoughts on these players.

I REALLY would like the Bills to bring in Shane Olivea. He was the starting Right Guard for the Chargers, and he can play Center!!!

I think we could upgrade our safety position...and Cooper, Doss and Kennedy would all be very nice additions. I don't know who I would rather have.

I believe it was starting RT, not G, and I don't think he can play center, but I'm not sure.
