He basically said that the Bills would have been better off spending the big bucks on a lockdown cornerback last year than a left guard this year. Weather or not you "arm chair QB's" agree with his decisions while he was a GM, means you'll have a better shot at that application you just sent in. And Casserly was also the one that said J.P. was not even in the same "league" as Rex Grossman. Casserly is as useless as Mort. Yea, too bad Mort's buddy TD didn't sign Nate to an extension before he became a free agent -- and new GM Marv was forced to use the Franchise Tag. I think there were two reasons the Bills didn't sign Nate last year: first, they wanted a full team in camp for the new staff, something they've admitted; second, they probably knew they wanted Youboty and expected him to get more playing time this past year. Had Youboty gotten more playing time beyond the Jets, maybe a lot of the speculation about giving up Nate would be moot. In hindsight, it's easy to say the corner position is in trouble. Clements is a high quality cb who covered the opponent's best receivers. I'd feel better about the whole thing if Terrence McGee played the way he was expected to after signing an extension. The guy flat out sucked as a cb last year, and was exploited mercilessly until the Bills finally started moving Clements around the field so he would match up with the No. 1 wideouts. No CB is going to help us establish a running game or stop an opposing team's running game. IMO, a lockdown CB is something you get after you're able to run and stop the run, not before. Let's just assume Nate actually stopped every pass that came his way. He even intercepted a few balls. So what? We still can't convert on 3rd and 1 to extend the drive in the 4th quarter. The other team gets the ball and runs 5 straight plays right into field goal position, and wins the game. Sound familiar. Nate, as good as he was or is, was not getting this team over the hump and into the playoffs. He was here long enough to single handedly do that several times. Why spend that much on him? Ever hear of Joe Jacoby and Jeff Bostic? They sucked, thats for sure. Also those kids that became rookies of the year, Houston was the only team to draft two Rookies of the Year. Domanick Davis, Dunta Robinson and two starting Pro Bowlers Andre Johnson, Jerome Mathis.
