Your job is to go out and fight for your country, don't want to fight or don't believe the war is "Justified", don't join the military. Those guys over there are sub human and it's not like you can fight a conventional war against them like you did with Hitler. Everytime you blow up one of those extremists you create dozens more. I don't mean to say all Middle Eastern people are like this, obviously there are some victims over there and it's a shame. I don't think it's a war that is winnable. They don't fight conventional wars anymore. Now its all about guerilla warfare. Just this morning I heard about a car bombing where tehy tricked people into going to work for the day as day labourers and when they all loaded up into the vehicle, they blew it up killing everyone inside. They send children in with explosives strapped to them and blow themselves up. I don't see this being a winnable war that will ever end, the problem is if you pull troops out right away, you will probably only be creating more extremists, and if you lerave them there you will lose more soldiers. I don't see it being possible to ever see that area of the world ever being peaceful

They tried to frame it that way by making her "unexpecting", but somehow I doubt that was the case. She called the army in order to tell them he wouldn't be coming back, and she left as well to join him within a month of his leaving. While I'm not trying to defend the guy for going AWOL, I don't get the impression that his wife had no idea what he was doing. I suspect that she knew what his intentions were. It sure does get more attention for the media though if they frame it in a way that has him just abandoning everything to escape a war.

Back at Fort Campbell, an unsuspecting Jill Hart picked up the phone at the house she had decorated in red, white and blue. Her husband of five years said he was not coming home.I can understand them acting naive for the sake of protecting the wife, but I don't care. It's irresponsible and self-serving. While I don't believe in this mission in any way, I don't think deserting is the way to go. I think this issue is a lot more complicated that people on this board seem to understand and I also think that more soldiers should question why they are being used as target practice for a mission that, by definition, was never going to happen. The Iraqis don't really care about democracy and if they did, they should have risen up - it wasn't worth the life of our brave soldiers. We should have learned that nation building is not a productive exercise and that we cannot create a reality to fit our own agendas after the Vietnam debacle - some conflicts are simply not worth being involved in.
